Working principle 2
-" ...
The liquids and $0 lids, which are interactive indissoluble and with different densities, will
be separated and sediment in the centrifuge and gravity force fields.
The separations that occur in the gravity. field are called gravity separation and
sedimentation; in the centrifuge field called centrifugal separation and sedimentation.
Gravity separation
The indissoluble liquids and solids with-different densities will be separated and sediment
slowly by the gravity in the gravitational fields. The solid particles freely settle down to {he
bottom because of heavier gravity and the lighter liquid float up, so the separation and
sedimentation take place. This gravity separation and sedimentation need a very long time
and cover a large area.

Centrifuge separation
The indissoluble liquids and solids with different densities will be-separated while they
.f
are rotated at a high speed in the bowl, where the particles with heavier density move to the
inside wall of bowl body, the lighter liquid toward the centen of the bowl - Because the
..- centrifugal force generated in the centrifuge fields in much larger thanthe gravity force, it
takes only v.ery short time for the centrifuge separation to achieve the same separation
efficiency in the. gravity fields ..Especially the gravity separation can Dot be available, the
best method is c-entrifuge separation.

Separation space
there is a stack ofdiscs installed iri the' bowl, which divide the bowl space into many Ii

conical cavities. That can shorten the sedimentation distance and improve the separation
efficiency.
The moving trace of the limit:particie"A" occurs between the discs(conicalcavity}.

Separation methods
Asper the requirements ef application and the bowl functions, there.are 2 methods or
separation of both purification and clarification.
r. Purification:
Purification method' isto separate the mixture liquid into phase of Liquid-solid, the liquid !t,

Construction and Functions,

Disc centrifuge is mainly composed of

1. Fame(includ log brake)
2. Bowl
3. Vertical shaft system.
4. Horizontal shaft system
5. Tachometer
6. Oil pump
7.Motor

[lie main structures of the drive system and bowl shall be described as fellows:
1.Drive system
The electric ID0t0r drives the bowl by
means of the friction coupling and the
Vertical shaft
gear drive.
The friction coupling can guarantee a
smooth acceleration and running, and
protect the electric motor and gear drive
..• from overloading while starting the Worm gear
machine. The flexible buffer structure is
used in the vertical shaft system to reduce Small worm gear
the vibration and wear of the drive
system ..
The speedometer can deck whether
the centrifuge tuns' normally or DoL The
rotating speed of the speedometer should
be within the range indicated in technical
specification at the normal condition.
Because of the great rotation inertia
of bowl while running > it takes much
time to stop the machine freely. Using
brake unit can reduce the 'stopping time
and pass through the critical speed of the
spindle quickly. In case of emergency,
Use the brake.

lock ring locks the bowl hood. There are a distribl.)tor, a stack of discs arid a top disc
installed in the bowl. There is a light phase chamber formed betWeen the level ring and
the neck ofthe top disc , and also a heavy phase·ohamber. formed between the small
lock ring and the top disc. There, one gravity ring is installed which can adjust the
interface of the l.ig.htpha~e and hea vy pl:1ase.The feeding r.aw oil and flushing water are
an fed into disc stacks through the chamber under the diSJtrlhutor.
2.2 Separatio'o function
The lowing condition ofliq~id in the bowl:
The raw oil to be treated in fed into the disc stack via feed pipe and distributor. The
solids, water and soap stOQk(heavy phase)move toward the vvall of bowl body along the
under sUJfa~eof discs, €.olIected in the heavy phase chamber and pumped out by the
heavy paring disc(heavy centripetal pump). The: light phase moves t6ward~the center
ofthe bowl along the outer cone surface of the discs" entering the collect and t~e sludge
gathering all the i~er wall of the bowl When purification, the light liquid is to be
discharged out by the gear pump' from the center ofthebowl. The sludge gatheruig on
the inner wall' of the bowl will be maDlllally, discharged out when separators' stops.
Sealing water:
In order to protect the light phase leakage from the heavy phase" the sealing waterfhot
water) rnust be fed into the bowl thr0ughthe sludge oil inlet pipe, The sludge o il'can be
fed in only after water seal js completed.
Attention: The water sealing water is mot allowed to feed into the bowl during
pl-llifica:tion.
Gravity ring:
Due to the balance 0 f hydrodynamic pressure, the interface win be formed between the
light phase and heavy phase in the bowl while the bowl rotating. The gravity ring can'
adjust the inter face of light phase and heavy phase. As pet the characteristic of the
feedstock and the proc,eS$.ing requirements, select the prope-: gravity ring..

Installation 4

••
Attention: The centrifuge with tbe bowl can not be allowed to hauled and hoisted
during installation, other wise the bearings.and the spindle will be damaged!

Tak€ into consideration the enough space available to maintenance and service tbe
centrifuge when installation. The foundation can be of steel structure or concrete, but
.must be firm, plane and level" so that in can reduce the vibration.
All the outside pipes connection with the separator 'must be used with hose-pipe, so .as 'to
isolate the outer vibration affecting the separator.
When install the separator on board, the horizontal shaft of the separator is
recommended 'to be kept parallel ins to the iongitudinal shaft of the ship thus it can reduce
influence when the ship swings.
The electric motor's connection shall meet the requirements as per the power supply of
Technical Specification and make sure that the rating direct ion is' correct.

gravity and composition by selecting jbe ring with appropriate bore. In general, the
best separating effectiveness is obtained by the selection of the special gravity ring
with a larger bore, on condition that the water sealing in the separating drum, would
not be destroyed, and interface of oil and water should not be so near the wall of the
drum body that is would stay at the external circumference of the neck cover. If this
phenomenon takes 'plac~, oil will flow out of the circumference of the neck cover
along with water, and themwater searing is destroyed.
The selection of the special gravity ring for the oil separator can be made by reference

According to the directions of instruction manual, check and maintenance the centrifuge
regularly and periodically in order to reduce the trouble.
Main points for maintenance:
l.Bowl
(1) the balance of the bowl can be broken or the safe and reliable running of the
centrifuge can be influenced ifthe threads are over worn seriously. Tis necessary to
check the screw threads of the large lock ring and bowl body regularly and
periodically, The marks" IJ It on the large lock ring and bowl body/hood .shall be
aligned with each other if the bow] is perfect and balanced. The marks will be
moved due to wear and corrosion/erosion. When check the marks, the disc stack and
the seal ring of bowl hood shall be removed. And then tighten the large lock ring. If
the mark on the large lock ring pass the mark' on the bowl body/hood over 25-angle
degree, never operate the centrifuge and consult with the manufacturer.
Check the screw threads every time before assembly. If ana damage occurs on the
threads, repair them by fine file Or oilstone, and coat grease.
(2) The disc stack pressing.
The disc stack must be pressed completed, other wise it will result in unbalance of
the bowl and abnormal vibration.Jf the large lock-ring can 'be easily tightened.
To the mark position, add the disc to the disc stack.
(3) Bowl repair
If the main component, 58Cb as bowl body, bowl cover, distributor seat, disc top
cover and main lock ring, is replaced with new one, the bowl must be balanced
again.
(4) If the machine Jays idle for long time, the components inside of the bowl should
be cleaned and on the surfaces of these components should' be .protected with oil
sealed.
2. Vertical shaft system -
(1) The position taper, which can locate the right position of the bowl, can nor
defected and damaged. The surface of position taper must be paid more attention
not to be damaged while disassembling and assembling. Any defect or scratch on
the surface of the taper must be repaired carefully by the scraper, oilstone and grind
paper. Machining repair is not allowed, otherwise the position accuracy will be not
guaranteed and the abnormal vibration will occur.
In addition, the exam of radial round jump of the taper surface of the vertical
shaft should be carried out periodically with a gauge fixed on the machine,
measuring point should be contact to the "taper. The allowable M.I\X radial round
jump in below O.02m. If over o..02,the vertical shaft should be reassembled again,
meanwhile, the bearing, bearing seal and buffer seat should also be. checked
carefully, or replaced if necessary.
i - (2) to check and replace the bearing and buffer mat periodically.

3. Hori4ontal shaft system. J.
(1) To check the engaging trace of the worm wheel periodically, If find out that the
wearing out of the worm wheel becomes intensive, the machine must check,ed the
trouble" cause, whether lubricant emulsified or less lubricant in gear housing. Only
the troubles are removed off, can the machine goes running again.

(2) FrictioI1 disc

If the fiction discs are found worn out, it should be replaced in, time, avoiding from the
