1 What's New in Apollo V4.1
This document provides a brief introduction to the new features and functionality included in the release
of Apollo V4.1. For more detailed information about each feature, see the specific related topics in the
Apollo documentation suite, including the General Description and Reference Manual.

Software
Assignment of AoC10 as AoC25
The AoC10 can be assigned as an AoC25 operating in 2.5 Gbps mode, and enabling the user high
flexibility in implementation of more applications with the same hardware. When assigned as an AoC25
the card can work as a multiple multi-service OTU1 muxponder and/or transponder.

TR100 Configurations as a Regenerator

Two TR100 cards residing in adjacent slots on the Apollo platform are used to implement the
regenerator configuration. The connection between both cards is made through the platform's
backplane.

 Regenerator Application

OLP_S2 Added Support

Added support to use OLP_S2 for fiber protection when OMSP cannot be used:
 Where we have spans with Raman or Hybrid amplifiers
 Where the main or and or protection links have ILAs inside
 Where protection of amplifiers is required in addition to fiber protection
The OLP_S2 continues to be used for service card protection as it originally was in V3.9

Hardware
CMR40B Combiner
The CMR40B is a multiservice combiner card that supports 4 x 10G
LAN/STM-64/OC-192/FC8/FC10/OTU-2/OTU-2e aggregation to OTU-3e. It reduces the number of
wavelengths, increases capacity, and simplifies management, and can be used in both metro/core and
long-haul networks.

OA_L Amplifier
The OA_L is a variable gain EDFA-based amplifier without an MSA, optimized for low gain spans in
coherent network applications, supporting up to 44/88 DWDM channels.

Related Topics:
 OA_L

SP_CE8_1 Splitter/Coupler
The SP_CE8_1 is a splitter/coupler card for eight services that can be used for splitting colorless DWDM
channels drop in mixed (coherent and direct) networks.

Related Topics:
 SP_CE8_1
 Colorless DWDM Channels Drop in Mixed Networks

SP_CE32_1 Splitter/Coupler
The SP_CE32_1 includes two independent splitter/coupler sections: a 1x32 bidirectional splitter/coupler
unit and a 1x2 bidirectional splitter/coupler unit. The SP_CE32_1 can be used in coherent networks for
splitting DWDM channels towards coherent service cards in ROADM nodes.

 Colorless DWDM Channels Drop in Coherent Networks

OMSP Protection Card

The OMSP card provides multiplex section protection at the optical line level. For this protection mode,
two fiber pairs are required for each protected span. The protection fiber is constantly monitored by a
pilot tone.
