BUSINESS COMMUNICATION – FALL 2023
TEAM ASSIGNMENT #1: COMPOSING AN INFORMATIONAL EMAIL
Assume that you are a human resource manager of Gotham Company. You have come up with a plan for the staff
development program for November 2023. You are thinking of “Lunch and Learn” sessions – on Friday, you are going
to invite a guest speaker to join the lunch at the office’s café and deliver a talk to the whole company. You also have
got some topics and names in mind. The speakers include Tobey Maguire, who agreed to speak on “Ten Top Tips for
Overcoming Personal Crisis” on 10th Nov. Another interesting topic is “The Art of Persuasion”, expected to be delivered
by Andrew Garfield on 17th Nov. The last guest speaker is Tom Holland, and his topic is “Staying Safe, Private and
Secure on Social Networks” on 24 th Nov. The talks will be from 12PM to 1PM, speakers should speak for only 30
minutes and the rest will be for questions and answers. Their emails are
[email protected],
[email protected] and
[email protected].
You will need to inform Mickey – one of the human resource team members – of the plan, and ask him to contact the
speakers via email to confirm the dates officially, and see if they have any concerns or would like to change the date.
You also want Mickey to contact the Facility Manager to ask her to help organize the café and prepare some logistics
for the guest speakers. Mickey should prepare gifts for the guest speakers as well. All of these tasks should come with
