3. Course Overview

The course focuses on discussing basic semiconductor theory, semiconductor

diodes and their applications, BJT, FET, Amplifier frequency response, Multistage
amplifiers, Power amplifier and Tuned amplifiers. It also introduces the basic
measurements on characteristics of electronic devices and circuits, semiconductor
diode characteristics, rectification and filtering, bipolar junction transistor
characteristics, transistor biasing and operating point stability, transistor amplifier,
frequency response, multistage amplifier, power amplifier and Tuned amplifier.

4. Course Objectives

The main objective of this course is to teach students the fundamental concepts
underlying classical analog electronics. The course is organized into different
chapters where one is built on the concepts of previous subsequent chapter/s. The
main method of delivery for this course is through face-to-face lecture and hands-
on-experience laboratory experiments. The laboratory practice is supported through
both physical presence in the lab room and virtual practice on software. Multisim ©
is used as virtual lab tool. The students’ understanding of each ideas discussed
during lecture class is assessed through different mechanisms as outlined in this
document. By the end of this course, you will have a strong grasp of the basic ideas
of semiconductors and their application in diodes, transistors and different types of
amplifiers. In each subsequent chapters, the student will develop engineering
problem solving skill applying a mathematical analysis methods for circuits involving
transistors and amplifiers in general. Also, the student will develop professional
communication and team work skill.

11. Academic Integrity, Referencing and Plagiarism

Academic Integrity
AASTU values academic integrity. Therefore, all students must understand the
meaning and consequences of cheating, plagiarism and other academic offenses
under the Code of Student Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures. Work submitted must
be your own, and others’ ideas should be appropriately acknowledged. If you don’t
follow these rules, plagiarism may be detected in your work using plagiarism detection
tool 'Turnitin'.

Referencing
Referencing is a way of acknowledging the sources of information that you use to
research your assignments. You need to provide a reference whenever you draw on
someone else's words, ideas or research. Not referencing other people's work can
constitute plagiarism.

Referencing Style
The University advises students to use the "IEEE Referencing Style" for written work
and oral presentations.
