Stitch 627 Pattern – Amigurumi Planarian
Stitch627’s
Planarian
AKA: Flatworm, Platyhelminthes Dugesia
This pattern is for creating a simple Amigurumi Planarian, often referred to as a flatworm or its
scientific name Platyhelminthes Dugesia planaria. This pattern is based off of my regular
Planarian pattern, but I wanted to make an Amigurumi version as well!

Stitch 627 Pattern – Amigurumi Planarian
Gauge: Is not important for this project, but you want both pieces to be the same size!
Stitch Explanation(s):
sc2tog (sc decrease) - Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and
draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.
ch = chain or chain stitch
sc = single crochet
inc = increase
Note: the only tricky part is in row #36 where you will increase stitches at the end of the
row by making additional chain stitches (ch) and in row #37 where you will increase stitches
at the end of the row by making external increase. Row #37 is done by inserting the hook
into the base of the last stitch made. Yarn over hook and pull through stitch. (You will create
3 of these in a row). Many crochet books can illustrate how this is done or more information
and an illustration can be found in The Essential Book of Crochet Techniques by Nancie M.
Wiseman.
Let’s Begin!
You will be making two (2) of these pieces; one will be the top and the other the bottom!
Note: In each row below (at the end) are the number of stitches in parentheses that should be in
that row, it should help you as you go along!

Cut Yarn with 6-8” remaining, pull yarn through loop and fasten off.
Finishing:
Eyes (Light Receptors –they really can’t see!):
Do this part before you sew the two halves together (it is
easier)!
Use yarn color chosen for the eyes and cut one yard length.
Thread it through a blunt tip needle.
Use the crochet ‘holes’ to stitch the eyes in a circular star
like pattern.
The eyes should be spaced slightly apart. Tie off each eye.
Cut 12” of black yarn and thread it through a blunt tip needle.
Place a few small stitches toward the inner part of the eyes.
You want your Planarian to look cross-eyed… that is how they look in nature!
Body:
Take the two halves and place them together with the right sides in and the wrong sides
out (you will stitch it together and then turn in right side out).
Cut two, 3 yard lengths, of yarn the same color as the body, double strand and thread
through needle.
Stitch around the outer edge of the Planarian.
Be sure to leave a 2” gap along one side of the neck (just below the head); this will be the
easiest place to turn it right side out!
Turn the planarian right side out.
Stuff it, but not too much; Planarians are flatworms!
Stitch opening closed and fasten off!
Congratulations! You now have your very own Amigurumi Planarian!
