Pe - Chapter 1 - 2023

This chapter introduces power semiconductor devices (PSD) and power electronics. It discusses the motivation for using switching power converters instead of linear regulators. It defines key power electronics terms like power switches and power converters. It also classifies PSDs based on their control characteristics, triggering methods, structures, charge carriers used, and voltage/current driven properties. Finally, it provides examples of power converter classifications like AC-DC, DC-DC, and DC-AC converters.
