HVAC SELF-DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION (WITH HDS)
HVAC SELF-DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION (WITHOUT HDS)

Removal & Installation

CAUTION
Before servicing, or working around the SRS system, turn the ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least 3 minutes. When servicing or working around the
SRS system, do not work directly in front of the air bag module.

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.


2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Air Bag (Supplemental Restraint System), disarming the system.
3. Move the shift lever to position 1.
4. Place protective tape (A) on both sides of the dashboard next to the climate control unit.
5. Insert a flat-tip screwdriver in the groove on each side, then pull straight out on both screwdriver shaft.
NOTE
Do not pry with the flat-tip screwdrivers.

6. Remove the climate control unit (A). Disconnect the connector (B).

To install:

1. Install the control panel in the reverse order of removal.


2. After installation, operate the various functions to make sure they work properly.
3. Run the self-diagnosis function to confirm that there are no problems in the system. Refer to HVAC Self-Diagnosis Function (with HDS) or HVAC Self-Diagnosis Function
(without HDS).

HVAC Self-Diagnosis Function (With HDS)

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.


2. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).
3. Connect the Honda Diagnostics System (HDS) to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
5. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the climate control unit. If it doesn't, troubleshoot the DLC circuit.

6. Select HVAC/CLIMATE CONTROL in the BODY ELECTRICAL menu.
7. Select INSPECTION in the HVAC/CLIMATE CONTROL menu.
8. Select CLIMATE CONTROL SELF TEST in the INSPECTION menu.
9. Check for DTC-s. If any DTC-s are indicated, write down the DTC-s, then troubleshoot those DTC-s. After troubleshooting, clear the DTC-s with the HDS.

HVAC Self-Diagnosis Function (Without HDS)

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

The climate control unit has a self-diagnostic function built into the unit.

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.


2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then to ON (II).
3. Press and hold the OFF button, then press the REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER button 5 times within 10 seconds. Release the OFF and REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER
buttons; then the self-diagnostic begins.
4. The blower motor will run at various speeds regardless of what the panel is displaying.
5. If there is any problem in the system, the system flashes 88 AUTO or alternately flashes 88 AUTO and one or more of the 14 segments (A through P).

A. To read the codes, refer to Checking For DTC-s in Self-Diagnostic Mode.


B. If there are no problems detected, the segments will not illuminate, and the system will appear to be turned off.

6. To cancel the self-diagnostic function, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0). After completing repair work, run the self-diagnostic function again to make sure that there are no
other DTC-s.

Checking For DTC-s In Self-Diagnostic Mode (Without HDS)


The temperature display indicates single or multiple DTC-s. If indicator segments A, C, E, G, J, M, and AUTO are on at the same time, there may be an open in the common
ground wire. If no DTC-s are present, the indicator remains blank.

The climate control display (using the temperature indicator and AUTO indicator) will give the following messages indicating a problem in the system:

A and AUTO: An open in the in-car temperature sensor circuit

B and AUTO: A short in the in-car temperature sensor circuit

C and AUTO: An open in the outside air temperature sensor circuit

D and AUTO: A short in the outside air temperature sensor circuit

E and AUTO: An open in the sunlight sensor circuit

F and AUTO: A short in the sunlight sensor circuit

G and AUTO: An open in the evaporator temperature sensor circuit

H and AUTO: A short in the evaporator temperature sensor circuit

J and AUTO: An open in the driver's air mix control motor circuit

K and AUTO: A short in the driver's air mix control motor circuit

L and AUTO: A problem in the driver's air mix control linkage, door, or motor circuit

M and AUTO: An open in the passenger's air mix control motor circuit

N and AUTO: A short in the passenger's air mix control motor circuit

P and AUTO: A problem in the passenger's air mix control linkage, door, or motor circuit

A: An open or short in the mode control motor circuit

B: A problem in the mode control linkage, doors, or motor circuit

C: An open in the recirculation control motor circuit

D: A short in the recirculation control motor circuit

E: A problem in the recirculation control linkage, door, or motor circuit

F: A problem in the blower motor circuit

G: Climate control unit internal error

H: Climate control unit lost communication with gauge control module (VSP/NE message)

K: Climate control unit lost communication with gauge control module (ECT message)

M: Communication bus line error
