Chapter 2 Activities & Assessment

Being knowledgeable about basic anatomy is important for students. Understanding how the body works allows people to perform physical activities safely and avoid injuries. The document discusses how different organ systems like cardiovascular and muscular systems are used during activities. Without knowledge of anatomy, students risk harming themselves. The worksheet asks students to label anatomical terms, identify bones and muscles, and analyze basketball skills in terms of involved muscles and movements.

Reflective Questions
Name: Landicho, Andrei, D. Score: ________________
Course, Year and Section: BSIT 1-5 Equivalent: ____________

A. Reflection

As a student, why is learning about basic anatomy important? What do you think are the
advantages of having anatomical knowledge in movements, exercises and injuries? (10 points)

Being knowledgeable about the anatomical structure of our body is relevant. As

teenagers and students, we are doing numerous physical activities in our everyday
lives, from light physical activities such as walking and some light household chores
to vigorous physical activities such as hiking, trekking, and doing sports. By doing
these activities without proper knowledge regarding the anatomical structure of our
body, the possibility of harm and danger that we might experience is high. Our body
consists of different organ systems that are responsible for their respective tasks and
roles. These organ systems are the integumentary skeletal, muscular, nervous,
endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and male and
female reproductive systems. We use these systems when we are doing activities, and
they are responsible for maintaining our wellness. However, if we are not aware of the
properties and purposes of these organ systems, we might put ourselves in great harm
or danger. For example, if you are planning to do a run, which is a vigorous activity, you
should consider your cardiovascular organ system. If your cardiovascular system is not
in good working order, you may pass out or experience shortness of breath while
performing that activity. Why? It is because you do not assess the condition of your
cardiovascular organ systems. Your lack of knowledge about your body’s structure will
surely do no good to you.

We should be knowledgeable about the anatomical structure of our body since

our health greatly depends on it. Keep in mind that prevention is always preferable to
cure.

Movement Analysis
Sports, Bones, Muscles & Movements. Choose one (1) sport of your choice and list
down two (2) skills. Try to perform the skill and answer the following:
● What are the MAJOR MUSCLES involved in the movement?

● Describe the anatomical movements applied to execute the skill

(10 points each)

Name of Sport: BASKETBALL

1. Skill No. 1: Dribbling

Dribbling in basketball is when the ball repeatedly hits the ground and
bounces back to the player’s hands. When dribbling, our appendicular
muscles are enhanced, particularly the deltoid, biceps brachii, and triceps
brachii. The skills are executed with the help of these muscles. They are
responsible for the pumping motion that pushes the ball from your hand to the
ground.

2. Skill No. 2: Shooting

A lot of muscles help to properly shoot a ball in basketball. Muscles in the

arms, shoulders, chest, hands, and legs are used when shooting a ball. In the
arms, our elbow was extended by our triceps and, in contrast, flexed by our
biceps. Both are important when aiming and returning the arm to its normal
position after shooting. Muscles in the wrists are also used for opening our
hands and grasping the ball. On our shoulders, we use our trapezius and
deltoid muscles. These muscles are used when we raise our arms and rotate
our shoulders as we aim and shoot. In our chest, pectoral muscles such as
the pectoralis major and minor are in charge when we move our shoulders
and aim forward. All of the muscles in our hands play a role when we position
our fingers or grip the ball. The most important muscle group involved in
shooting a ball is our long flexors and extensors. Another one is our legs;
even though we do not use our legs in shooting, they are still an important
factor in properly shooting a ball. In bending our knees, proper form of our
quadriceps is required. When shooting, we also jump, and the muscles that
help us bend our feet for the momentum are the ones in our calves.
