6.8 Stitch features

6.8.1 Brain storming

To use Triana's stitch feature, the basic knowledge is required as following

explanation. To be understood three-dimensional coordinate system. Triana stitch
mode is represented by 3-D on the X-axis in the coordinate system, Y-axis and Z axis
with a right hand orthogonal coordinate system (Right-handed system, Cartesian
coordinate).
As shown in the figure below indicates the three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate
system

coordinates

< 6.8.1> 3-dimensional coordinate system and the image plane

1) To be understood three-dimensional rotation (+ X /-X, + Y /-Y, + Z /-Z-axis rotation)

The figure below explains right coordinate rotation method (Right-handed system
rotation)
2) As shown in the figure below, the right hand thumb indicates + Y axis of rotation,
four fingers are pointing to the left that it is the direction of rotation.
In contrast, -Y axis of rotation is pointing to the right that it is the direction of
rotation.

117 / 128
< 6.8.2> Example of Right-hand coordinate system the (+) rotational direction

Each axis is called Pitch, Yaw, and Roll, as shown in the figure
below when the main object moving to the direction of Z.

3) Understanding of two-sided Axial Triana stitch can show 3 Section of axial (XY
plane) by default setting of the user interface. As below, two Axial volumes are in
the same height. In this figure, both images expressed with 3 Axial.

<6.8.3> expressed with 3 Axial by 3-D effect

6.8.2 Understanding user interface about Stitch function.

2) Triana support aligning volume function by 6-DOP alignment

You can match two images by using Triana's stitch feature. By Triana's stitch feature,

119 / 128
both images can be located same area with appropriate location.
Stitch feature provides six degrees of freedom adjustment in three-dimensional space.
Six degrees of freedom means X, Y, Z axis movement (Translation) and X, Y, Z axis
rotation are movable with 6 directions.

The figure below explain custom icon

: X-axis align + / - Rotation, + / - Move

: Y-axis align + / - Rotation, + / - Move

6.8.5 Add Child Volume

When switch to 3D MPR mode from stitch mode, mother volume appears on the
screen as below (Mother Volume). This volume is the mother volume was load in the
3D MPR mode. Normally mother- volume locates on the right portion of the normal
image and child-volume is on the left portion. The first volume is represented by the
red cube in the bottom right of your screen with 3D view <Figure 6.8.7>,.

<6.8.7> you can see the loaded mother volume

6.8.7 Save the stitches as the volume

Can be stored in one volume when alignment of the two volumes is completed
The VOI (Volume of Interest) will have the effect of widening
Save button ( ) : click to save
Stitched volume can be stored choosing one of two option. <Figure 6.8.12> is
showing the screen of save option.
The characteristics of each option can be checked.

1) Keep Full FOV Option : Quick Save

This option saves the whole volume size, keeping the region of volume.
In this case, size of voxel is bigger, resolution will be reduced.
In this option, Speed of saving is fast.

2) Keep Voxel Option: Precision Save

This option is saving stitched volume with keeping size of voxle.
Instead of keep size of voxel, the number of slice can be restrictively reduced.
Region of slice can be set through the mouse control.
In this option, speed of saving is slower than “Quick save”.
Region of volume that would be stored showed volume height figure(Top, Bottom)
and slice figure(Top Slice, Bottom Slice) in “Precision Save” option.

<6.8.12> Screen of Save Option

1) Choose the “precision save”, “Region Set” button

125 / 128
- Click the “Precision save” for keeping Voxel, capable of saving region of slice
appears to “red box” on the 3D screen as like <Figure 6.8.13>.

<6.8.13> Region of slice capable of saving

- At this time, click the “Slice Boundary Set” button, “Save Option” window is changed
small window like <Figure 6.8.14>. And this helps to “Region Set”.

<6.8.14> “Save Option” Window

2) Save
- When you click the “Save” button, stitched volume is saved conform to choice
option.
- Stitched volume will be created a new study under the directory of the same patient.
- Name of new created directory is added a prefix like “Stitch_**” and “Stitch_”.
- While stitched volume is creating, progress bar of volume saving is on the screen.

* Keep Full FOV: Quick Save

- After stitches, reduce the resolution of FOV as volume is larger.

126 / 128
* Keep Voxel: Precision Save
- After Stitches, FOV keeps the voxel. But, height of volume can be
reduced.

6.8.8 Complete of stitches volume

At 6.8.7 when the stitches data is saved in storage, the screen go back to 3D mode
than it will be load automatically up on the screen.
