 Our History

Mr. A. Govindan, 1926 - 2015

Mr A Govindan, a man with determination, grit and a healthy dose of a positive attitude, established Microtex in
1969. He developed for the first time in the country Microtex PVC Battery Separators an import substitute that
became a legendary product. The name Microtex has become synonymous with quality.

In the same year 1969, he also launched the pluri tubular bags used in tubular batteries which again was an
import substitute. He was granted a Patent for the Pluri Tubular Bags in 1975.

By 1977 he started manufacturing and exporting industrial lead-acid batteries. By the 80’s he was exporting
over 4000 traction batteries annually. He was awarded the Udyog Patra Award in 1987 by the President of India
Shri Giani Zail Singh for his contribution to economic development.

Today Microtex batteries are exported to 43 countries and carry on his rich tradition of serving the customer
with consistently high-quality batteries. Microtex offers a wide range of batteries and is supplied to demanding
customers like the Indian Railways, Nuclear Power plants, NPCL, BARC, NTPC, Telecom industry, Mining, Material
Handling Equipment, like Forklifts and EV, Home Inverters and UPS, Power Generating Stations and Sub-
stations, Standby application and Solar Energy.

qualified people committed to delivering its customers with a reliable battery. The Microtex design
team in consultation with renowned international battery experts are
highly skilled and competent in the field of design,
process controls and manufacture.

He cared for the environment so much that right from very early on he took measures to ensure that the
battery manufacturing was done with clean and green processes. Microtex is an ISO 14001 company with
proven established environment protocols ensuring the battery manufacturing is performed with
zero impact to the employees or the environment. It might be interesting to know that
Microtex has been providing a tree sapling along with
every traction battery sold since 2017.

facility producing all the components including the manufacture of lead alloys, grid castings,

150-bar Pressure Die Casting

Spine grids for the tubular plate electrodes are cast

on ultra-modern high-pressure die-casting machines.

Lead is compacted densely into the spines under

extremely high pressures of over 150-bars. This
ensures the grain structure is refined and keeps the
spine grids corrosion-free and lasting longer.

Automatic Grid Casting

Positive and Negative grids are manufactured on

Wirtz (USA) gravity grid casting machines.

The specially engineered grid design ensures the

current generated at the electrode travels to the
terminal rapidly.

Thicker gravity cast negative plates always perform

better because they are thicker.

Closed Loop Automatic Tubular Oxide Filling

The pressure die casted spine grid is inserted

into the PT Bags and filled in the state-of-the-art
environment-friendly closed-loop dry filling system.

Dry filling of tubular bags ensures uniform filling of

the oxides without any voids or empty pockets.
Tamped density is checked and consistent filling
weights are assured.

 Microtex ULM Lead Alloy Plant

Proprietary lead alloys for ULM (Ultra Low

Maintenance) characteristics are manufactured in
house. The special alloy uses very low antimony-
selenium-tin-lead and proprietary elements to create
grain refined structures and reduce water
consumption.

Our special ULM alloys minimize the need for

frequent water topping up.

Lead Oxide Mill

2 ball mills of 24T and 12T per day produce high-

quality lead oxides with controlled particle size
distribution to meet optimum battery performance.

Our oxide mills are modern and specially equipped

with bag house filters and additional water scrubbers
to ensure complete environmental safety.

At Microtex we take our commitment to environment

Battery Container Manufacturing

We produce our own battery containers and lids

with the best moulds. P20 steel moulds guarantee
to produce over 1 million shots without any wall

Injection moulding machines with clamping forces

 Proprietary nano carbon HCM paste formula

Years of research and manufacturing experience

have led to developing special active material
paste formula incorporating nano carbon additives
with special graphite. This has lead to our battery
performing better. Recovers faster from a deep
discharge and have better charge acceptance rates.

Our developing the proprietary HCM paste formula

exclusive to Microtex. The heart of the reaction inside
a battery happens at the active materials.

Woven pluri tubular gauntlets (PT Bags)

Microtex pioneered the PT Bags in the country in 1969

with supplies to other battery companies.

Engineered technical textiles are woven in house on

the latest ultra-high-speed rapier weaving machines.

Woven PT Bags are made from high-tenacity,

multi-strand, multi-filament polyester yarns ensuring
superior robust strength and long life inside the
battery with good porosity and acid resistance.

manufacturing tubular plate technology batteries.

Plate Formation

Plate formation is like giving a genetic code to the

plates ensuring super long-life performance of the
batteries. Formation ensures complete conversion
and eliminates any chance of unformed active
materials in the electrodes.

After the pasting and curing process the plates are

fully formed in special vats with clean current using
state-of-the-art computer controlled rectifiers.

Presence of trace impurities like ferrous, zinc,

manganese, nickel, cadmium, etc., if untested harms

We monitor every lot of raw material - pure lead,

For Nuclear, Power Generation, Oil and off shore Industry
Microtex OPzS/HDP batteries with high power density are available for power generation, hydro-thermal
and nuclear power generating stations, solar energy, offshore oil rigs and petrochemical complexes. Made in
transparent SAN containers. Microtex has been manufacturing OPzS batteries since 2007 for nuclear standby
battery applications meeting European norms.

2V HDP/OPzS batteries are standby battery power

storage units. They are lead-acid tubular flooded

Required to be transparent for mission-critical
applications where the condition of the cell’s

Microtex 2V OPzV batteries in ABS container are designed for deep discharge and float long-duration

temperatures from −20 to 55 °C (−4 to 131 °F).

valves and no opening for water levels to check.
Being a sealed unit, there is no risk of acid spillage.

vertical position. Recharging is performed much more

Microtex VRLA Batteries are SMF 2V valve-regulated VRLA batteries with high power-density. Made with special
high-temperature absorbent glass mat separators, they are specially designed to have balanced active
materials, ensuring best performance in high temperatures. Available in a wide range of 2V cells in DIN design
from 100Ah to 5000Ah and come with assured performance. 2V VRLA cells are rechargeable lead-acid battery
banks used for power backup as a battery bank with high rate of discharge in, telecom, data centres, solar and
standby applications.
Microtex sealed AGM batteries, being a gas
recombination valve regulated lead acid, it is a
completely sealed and maintenance free.

Internal resistance is measured for each and every

cell to ensure cell matching with high consistency
and reliability.

High-rate discharge test is performed for each cell to

ensure battery integrity. Voltage is regulated by the
correct and balanced active materials proportions,
ensuring high cycle life performance.

Microtex Eternia T Gel 12V VRLA battery – in which the electrolyte has been immobilised using thixotropic
silica gel in order to recombine hydrogen and oxygen. It has a sealed construction with pressure release
valves to prevent gases from escaping. The use of silica gel to immobilize the acid is what gives its name –
Gel Battery. Designed by Dr Wieland Rusch of Germany – Manufactured with precision and pride in India, we

Microtex PT Bags (Pluri Tubular Woven Gauntlets) used in the production of tubular battery plates are an
innovative and welcome import substitute for industrial lead-acid battery manufacturers in India – pioneered

Microtex PT Bags are stringently tested in house
