United States
United States is one of the best countries you can potentially
work at as a designer. Companies, especially from the Silicon
Valley, drive innovation and have huge funding that allows
them to grab the best talent and pay them handsomely.
Obviously the higher pay is also due to the fact that the cost of
living (renting an apartment, paying utility, buying food) is
much higher in the United States than most other countries.
This is why we believe it’s unfair to compare the $ values
between countries directly and in the future version of this
report we’ll also factor in those costs of living with examples.

United Kingdom
The UK is also quite expensive to live in, so the higher than
average rates here are more than understandable. Once we
get more data in, the raise in experience vs income will
become more apparent. What we’ve been seeing across the
industry lately is that the younger generations are a li$le bit
be$er at negotiating salaries - which can explain some of the
numbers.

India
India is rapidly rising to become a global superpower. While
years ago it was mostly considered a place to !nd cheap
developers not necessarily delivering high quality code, it has
transformed dramatically in the last decade - the quality of
the work from India is now on par with the rest of the world,
and o%en exceeds it. Obviously with a rise in quality came a
slow rise in the wages as well.

Germany
Germany is a design powerhouse and one of the richest
countries on the planet. Some of the best designers in history
come from there, so they have a strong tradition of the cra%.

Poland
Poland for many years had the bene!t of very cheap costs of
living while being a part of the European Union. That made
international trade a lot easier with invoicing and payments
being accepted worldwide. Combined with lower wages for
years it has been growing as one of the design and coding
hubs of Europe.

Conclusions
What is interesting to note, is the fact that on average, the
more experience the more generalists were in our group, with
the 10+ years group being 90% generalists and only 10% other
roles. It may mean the shi% to multi-faceted designers is
already on its way and it may be the best way to earn more.
