P101 - Project Phase - 1 Abstract

This project aims to enhance maritime safety through ship risk analysis. The team will analyze data from government and international sources on detention lists, watchlists, and banned vessels to develop comprehensive risk profiles for individual ships. Natural language processing, geospatial analysis, and temporal analysis will be used to extract information, categorize data, identify relationships, and analyze ships' movements and behavior over time. The goal is to provide risk insights to maritime operators, regulators, insurers, and other stakeholders to contribute to safer operations. The team will use libraries like SpaCy, Genism and Sci-kit learn and references papers on quantitative ship risk assessment, probabilistic risk modeling using Bayesian networks, global risk profiles, and fuzzy inference ship risk evaluation

Abstract:
In the dynamic world of maritime operations, ensuring the safety, security, and operational
efficiency of ships is of paramount importance. This project is dedicated to the precise and
detailed analysis of ships' risk profiles through the utilization of diverse data sources, with a
primary focus on key sources provided by governments and international bodies. These sources
encompass a variety of datasets, including Detention Lists, Ship Watchlist Alerts, Banned
Vessels by Membership Authorities, and potentially other pertinent sources. By systematically
structuring and analyzing information from these authoritative sources, our goal is to provide
maritime operators, regulatory bodies, insurers, and other stakeholders with essential insights
into the specific risks and vulnerabilities associated with individual ships. This analysis will
encompass advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques tailored to ships,
including entity extraction, categorization, and relationship analysis. Furthermore, geospatial,
and temporal analysis will be employed to gain a profound understanding of ships' physical
presence, movements, and the identification of anomalous behavior. This project promises to
revolutionize ship risk management by delivering comprehensive ship risk profiles, ultimately
contributing to safer and more secure maritime operations.
