1.9.1. STARTING A NEW VM FOR THE FIRST TIME

When you start a VM for the first time the OS


installation process is started automatically,
using the ISO image file specified in the Create
Virtual Machine wizard.
1.9.2. CAPTURING AND RELEASING
KEYBOARD AND MOUSE

Oracle VM VirtualBox provides a virtual USB tablet device


for mouse input to guest OS

If the VM detects only standard PS/2 mouse and


keyboard devices, it expects exclusive control over input

Before installing Guest Additions, either the VM or host


can control input, but not both.
If both want control, a second confined mouse pointer
appears in the VM window

USE SPECIAL KEY COMBINATIONS WITH THE HOST KEY

Host key + Del sends Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot the guest OS.

Host key + Backspace sends Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart the graphical user interface of
a Linux or Oracle Solaris guest.

Host key + Function key. For example, use this key combination to simulate
Ctrl+Alt+Fx to switch between virtual terminals in a Linux guest
1.9.4. CHANGING REMOVABLE MEDIA
