ORIGIN OF BALLENITA
According to historians, its name comes from the fact that in ancient times the legendary whales
came to mate and reproduce the species. Its extensive beach is 1,600 meters long, including 200
meters of rocky area and 300 meters of sand and rock.
Ballenita beach is located on the Pacific coast, Spondylus route, Ecuador. It is a small fishing
community located 5 km from the city of Santa Elena, and less than 2 km from the Regional Bus
Terminal of Santa Elena.

agriculture was not practiced except for planting

completely removed and replaced with landscape
vegetation.

VISION OF THE LANDSCAPE
It has an approximate extension of 1 kilometer. Towards its ends are the
largest ledges of the cliff.
Ballenita presents a particularity given by the presence of a low cliff, in
which two spaces are differentiated: the boardwalk in its upper part and
the beach in the lower part. The boardwalk has some facilities such as Fig 13
viewpoints and certain services such as restaurants, dining rooms and ballenita pier
some other support structures such as toilets. To get to the beach there
are several accesses, which do not have all the security conditions.
The canteens at the edge of the cliff currently represent a hazard and it
has been necessary to place supports to prevent them from collapsing.
