The boy who cried wolf is a short story adapted from the classic fable. It is about a boy who is tasked with watching over his village's sheep but gets bored. To entertain himself, he cries out that wolves are attacking even when they are not. When real wolves do come, the villagers no longer believe him and the sheep are attacked.

The boy who cried wolf


(Adapted)

Characters: Boy, Mother, Villagers 1-4, sheep, wolf


Setting: One small village near the hill

Scene I.
Characters: Boy, Mother
Setting: House

[Mother enters]

Mother: [furious] Edgar?! Edgar?! Where are you, you lazy boy?!

[Boy enters]

Boy: What is it mother? [yawn] Can’t you see I am peacefully sleeping in here? You disturb me.
Mother: AH! Your laziness disgust me! Go and watch over the sheep! And don’t you dare come
home if a single sheep is lost! You understand me?! Go! Get out of my face!
Boy: [walk away, mocking his mother]
[Mother exits]

-End of Scene I-

Scene II.
Characters: Boy, sheeps
Setting: Hill

Boy: [throwing rocks; sheeps are to be heard] what a beautiful day it is, too beautiful to be
spending my day with you all! [Throws rocks at sheeps; sheeps let out a sound] Silence
you animals! [Sit down] I wonder what I could do to ease my boredom. [thinks] Ah…
[Exits]

Scene III.
Characters: Villagers 1-4, Boy
Setting: Village

[Villagers are to be seen talking with each other, until …]

Boy: HELP! HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME! WOLVES ARE ATTACKING OUR SHEEP!
HURRY!

[Villagers ran to the boy]

Villager 1: [looking for wolves] Where’s the wolves boy? Are you okay? Did it hurt you?
Villager 2: We ran as fast as we could to get here.
Boy: [laughs] HAHAHA! You have been fooled! There was no wolf! [continue laughing]
Villager 3: [angry] come on everyone, let’s get out of here.
Villager 4: Be careful boy. I am warning you.
[Villagers Exit]
Boy: [still laughing] HA! Simpletons. This is fun, I am going to do this tomorrow.
[Boy Exits]

-End of Scene III-

Scene IV.
Characters: Villagers 1-4, Boy
Setting: Hill

[Boy enters, running]

Boy: HELP! HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME! WOLVES ARE ATTACKING OUR SHEEP!
HURRY!

[Villagers ran hurriedly to the boy]

Villager 1: [angry] You again? Don’t tell me you are only fooling us boy!
Villager 2: This is the last time you’re going to fool us. The next time you will be needing
our help, we won’t be there to help you.
Villager 3: The next time you will fool us again, I will beat you up!
Villager 4: Be careful boy, liars always get what they deserved.

[Villagers exit]
Boy: Ha! That was fun! But I think it’s enough for today. Tomorrow is another day.

[Exit]

Scene V.

Setting: Hill

[Boy enter, walking]

Boy: Hmmm.. I wonder what the villagers were doing. HA! They were so angry yesterday.
[hears a faint growl] What is that? Wolves? [The growl grew louder] It cannot be! [afraid]
WOLVES! WOLVES! HELP ME! PLEASE! HELP! [cries] No! Not our sheep! MOTHER!
MOTHER!

[Boy exits, running]
