INTRODUCTION

Rhetorical devices are effective tools that any writer or speaker can use to make their words
move impactful to an audience rhetorical devices make speeches more persuasive, writing more
memorable and are just what you need if you’re trying to really take advantage of ethos, pathos,
and logos. Rhetorical devices is a linguistic tool that employs a particular type of sentence
structure, sound, or pattern of meaning in order to evoke a particular reaction from an audience.

COMMON RHETORICAL TOOLS


Each rhetorical devices is a distinct tool that can be used to construct an argument or make an
existing argument more compelling. Any time one these to inform, persuade, or argue with
someone, he/she is engaging in rhetoric by developing a basic knowledge of rhetorical devices
one can improve ability to process and convey information on while also strengthening his/her
persuasive skills rhetorical devices are loosely organized into the following four categories:
1. Logos: Device in this category seek to convince and persuade via logic and reason and
will usually make use of statistics, cited facts and statement by authroties to make their point and
persuade the usther.

2. Pathos: These rhetorical devices base their appeal in emotion. This could mean invoking
sympathy or pity in the usther, or making the audience angry in the service of inspiring action or
changing their mind about something.

3. Ethos: Ethical appeals try to convince the audience that the speaker is a credible source,
that their words have weight and must be taken seriously because they are serious and have the
experience and judgement necessary to decide what’s right.

4. Kairos: This is one of the most difficult concepts in rhetoric devices in this category are
dependent on the idea that the time has come for a particular idea or action. The very time lines
of the idea is part of the argument.

 Rhetorical questions can be used to control the thoughts of the audeience these questions
may have obvious answers or may not have a clear cut answer one technique of using
such questions is inserting them in start of the speech and then carrying on with the
speech in such away that the rhetorical question is answered in the content of one’s
presentation.
 A powerful beginning: To capture the audience it is important to insect some rhetorical
devices at the start of your speech which create some poetic effects that helps you engage
the audience it may also include the use of diacop or anadiplosis which focus on
repetition of words of phrases crating emphasis and a strong display of emotions. A
powerful end i.e climate is the most important part in a speech. What you say in the end
is what stays with the audience hence, ending the speech with impactful rhetorical
devices is advisable. These may include inserting a rhetorical question making the
audience ponder a little as mentioned. A rhetorical analysis is structured similarly to other
essays an introduction presenting the thesis, a body analysing the text directing, and a
conclusion to wrap up. Rhetorical analysis is not a matter of choosing concept sin
advance and applying them to a text. Instead it starts with looking at the text in detail and
asking the appropriate questions about how it works.

CONCLUSION

Overall, rhetorical tools are essential in both speech development and analysis, as they allow
speakers and writers to effectively communicate their message to an audience and make it more
engaging and persuasive. By understanding and utilizing these tools, speakers and writers can
create more effective and memorable messages, while analysts can better understand and
evaluate the techniques used by speakers.
