Haslingfield Communion Service .17092023
1
and keep us in life eternal.
Amen.
God, the source of all wisdom,
you teach us in your word
that love is the fulfilling of the law:
grant that we may love you with all our heart
and our neighbours as ourselves;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
2
God of compassion, we pray for those who are ill or anxious at home or in hospital . . . We pray
for those whose lives are filled with fear and despair . . . Draw near with your saving love and
bring healing and hope.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
God of glory, we rejoice in the communion of saints; we remember all who have faithfully lived
and all who have died in Christian hope, especially . . . Help us to follow their example and bring
us with them into the fullness of your eternal joy.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
Merciful God,
you have prepared for those who love you
such good things as pass our understanding;
pour into our hearts such love towards you
that we, loving you above all things,
may obtain your promises,
which exceed all that we can desire;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Thanksgiving
All stand.
The presiding minister leads the great prayer of thanksgiving:
3
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right, always and everywhere,
to give thanks to you, the true and living God.
We bless you, O God,
for you would not welcome chaos,
but brought forth all creation:
summer breezes over beaches,
leaves changing colors in autumn,
brittle stars for crisp winter nights,
butterflies over spring's flowers.
You crowned all this goodness
with those created in your image,
so we could be with you forever,
but we had no patience for your hopes,
choosing the gifts offered by temptation.
You sent the prophets to us,
hoping their words would help us
to realize the harm our lives caused,
but we continued to despise
your steadfast love and mercy.
So you came to us in Jesus,
that we might not live for ourselves,
but live for your and others.
4
As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup
we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Therefore, gracious God,
with this bread and this cup
we remember that our Lord offered his life for us.
Believing the witness of his resurrection and ascension,
we look for his coming in glory,
and our sharing in his great and promised feast.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
Send now, we pray, your Holy Spirit,
that these gifts of bread and wine
may be for us the body and blood of Christ
and that we may live to your praise and glory
with all your saints in light.
Amen. Come, Holy Spirit.
Join our prayers
and the prayers of all your people
on earth and in heaven
with the intercession of Christ,
our great high priest,
through whom, with whom, and in whom,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all worship and honour are yours,
almighty God and Father,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread
The presiding minister breaks the bread in the sight of the people in silence, or saying:
The bread we break is a sharing in the body of Christ.
Christ is the Bread of Life.
The presiding minister may lift the cup in silence, or saying:
The cup we take is a sharing in the blood of Christ.
Christ is the true Vine.
Silence, all seated or kneeling
Jesus, Lamb of God,
have mercy on us.
Jesus, bearer of our sins,
have mercy on us.
Jesus, redeemer of the world,
grant us peace.
6
We praise you, God,
for the bread of heaven
and the cup of salvation
which you give for the life of the world.
With this food for our journey
bring us with your saints
to the feast of your glory. Amen.
Blessing
The presiding minister says:
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord look on you with kindness
and give you peace. Amen.
Dismissal
The presiding minister says:
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
