The natural phenomenon of tsunami was little known before it had hit the South-East of
Asian shores on December 26th, 2004. Since then, Tsunami has become one of the most popular
Japanese words across the world. Thousands of T.V channels covered for more than a month the
tragedy that it had caused. It had made more than one hundred thousand victims. It had left
thousands of people homeless and had wiped out the industrial roads of many towns.

The 2004 tsunami was given such a wide publicity as its victims didn’t belong to one
nationality, ethnic group or religion. It didn’t distinguish between the poor and the rich; the old and
the young. This time the tsunami hadn’t chosen its victims” beforehand”. The dead, the injured and
the homeless had no nationality in this tragedy. Therefore, when the tsunami has recessed, the
reaction was universal.
