Title:-To Investigation of Solubility of Ionic Compounds Objective: - To Investigate The Solubility of Nacl and Cucl Theory

The document discusses investigating the solubility of ionic compounds NaCl and CuCl2. It outlines the theory of solubility and how solubility rules determine if a substance will dissolve. The procedure measures the solubility of NaCl in ethanol, water, and benzene. Observations showed NaCl completely dissolved in water as both are polar, partially dissolved in ethanol as it is partially polar, and did not dissolve in the nonpolar benzene. The conclusion is that like polarity substances dissolve in keeping with solubility principles.

Title :- To investigation of solubility of ionic compounds

Objective:- To investigate the solubility of NaCl and CuCl2

Theory:-
When a substance is mixed with a solvent, there are several possible results. The determining
factor for the result is the solubility of the substance, which is defined as the maximum possible
concentration of the solute. The solubility rules help determine which substances are soluble, and
to what extent. Many interesting and important applications can be extracted from a solubility
data. One of the earliest application of gas solubilities pertains to diving. They are used in almost
all industrial treatments involving separation, extraction, purification, and crystallization. The
data is also required for the design of water treatment facilities in removing hazardous chemicals
from supplies of drinking water. solubility is also an essential property for the design of new
drugs. Aqueous solubility gives valuable indications about the biological activity of a drug, and
therefore, is most important in pre-formulation studies, in the area of food processing, removal of
cholesterol from food products,12 de-alcoholization of beverages,13 and concentration of flavor
compounds.

Procedure:-
1. 1.013g, 1.050g and 1.053g of NaCl were measured using beam balance.
2. 5ml of Ethanol was sucked from the beaker to the test tube using a pipette.
3. 5ml of Water and Benzene were measured .
4. 5ml of Ethanol, Water and Benzene were added to separate test tubes.
5. 1.013g of NaCl was added to the test tube containing water.
6. 1.050g of NaCl was added to the test tube containing Ethanol.
7. 1.053g of NaCl was added to the test tube containing Benzene.
8. The test tubes were shaked carefully.

Apparatus:-
 Test Tube
 Beaker
 Pipette
 Beam Balance(Analytical Balance)

Chemicals:-
 Sodium Chloride(NaCl) or Table Salt
 Ethanol(CH3CH2OH)
 Water(H2O)
 Benzene
Observation and Analysis
Solvent NaCl
Ethanol Partially Dissolved
Water Completely dissolved
Benzene Not dissolved

Discussion
We discussed that, one compound or substance should be like or have the same polarity like the solvent to
be dissolved ,so NaCl will completely dissolved in water because both NaCl and Water are polar.

Conclusion
According to our experiment NaCl dissolved in water but not in Benzene due to the principle “Like will
always dissolve like or polar will always dissolve polar and non polar will always dissolve non polar” .
