The use of magnetic slot wedges is not allowed. When the use of magnetic type slot wedges
is unavoidable they shall be of the iron powder type, fully guaranteed by the manufacturer.
Laminated or wire type wedges are not acceptable.

The class of winding insulation shall be Class F, with Class B temperature rise for starting and
steady state operation at full load.

5.5 Rotor and Fans

The external fan shall be of non-corroding materials or be treated with a corrosion-resistant

coating.

Rotor and fans shall be dynamically balanced with the half key in position at the free shaft
end.

When the motor manufacturer has to supply the coupling or when a coupling half is made
available, the balancing has also to be done with this coupling half mounted on the shaft.

If for balancing additional weight is required, this material shall not be of lead or similar soft
material.

The flow of cooling air shall be in the direction of the driving end of the motor to prevent
contaminated warm air from the driven unit being drawn into the cooling system of the motor.

If directional fans are fitted, the direction of rotation for which the motor is designed shall be
permanently indicated by means of an arrow. A painted arrow is not acceptable.

The shafts ends shall be provided with a suitably threaded hole or holes to facilitate the
assembly or removal of coupling and bearing faces.

Shaft extension, keys and key ways shall be in accordance with IEC 60072.

5.6 Terminals

Terminal connections shall be constructed in such a way that direct contact between screws,
bolts or nuts and the conductor is avoided.

The terminals shall be alphabetically or numerically marked (e.g. U, V, W or 1, 2, 3) in such a

way that if the supply cyclic phase sequence in time corresponds to the alphabetical or
numerical sequence of the terminal markings, then direction of rotation of the motor shall be
clock wise when facing the driving end.

5.7 Terminal Box

A terminal box of sturdy metal construction shall be provided with ample space for connecting
the cable as indicated on the motor data sheet. The enclosure shall be IP 55. In view of the
maximum acceptable voltage drop, large numbers of cables in the same trench and short-
circuit rating of the system, the prescribed cable size can be larger than considered normal by
the manufacturer.

tender: project: document: W-E-SS-005 rev: 1 sheet: 9 of: 15

Consequently, a larger cable connecting box than manufacturer's standard may be required.

The design shall be such that small items cannot be dropped into the motor frame. The
method of fixing the box and its component parts to the motor frame shall be in accordance
with the type of motor enclosure.

Inside the terminal box an earthing bolt of adequate dimensions shall be fitted for connection
of the cable earthing. This bolt is additional to the external equipment earthing bolt mentioned
5.1 above.

The terminal box must be adequately weatherproofed with a gasket of suitable non-sticking
re-usable non-hygroscopic material. The use of paint, grease or plastic compounds for this
purpose is not acceptable.

When a motor is provided with heaters, thermistors or other temperature detectors, the
connections for such devices must be brought out to terminal boxes separated from each
other and from the main cable terminal box.

The terminal boxes shall be provided with cable sealing end boxes or cable glands suitable
for the cables.

The main cable terminal box shall have phase separation, or at least provided with increased
internal space.

5.8 Cable Entries

All types of cable connections shall allow for removal of the motor without breaking or
stressing the supply cable sealing.

It is preferred that the end sleeve or gland assembly, complete with the cable, can be
withdrawn from the box in such a way that the cable termination can be prepared outside the
box.

Where a cable entry with sealing chamber is used, the latter shall be of the detachable type.

5.9 Bearings

In general, motors shall be equipped with two ball bearings, wherever possible grease-packed
and preferably sealed for life. In connection with high radial forces, however, the application of
a combination of ball and roller bearings may be necessary.

Ball and roller bearings shall be grease lubricated.

The B-10 lifetime for ball and roller bearings of straight coupled motors shall be in excess of
40,000 hours and shall be calculated in accordance with ISO R281. The calculation shall take
full account of internally generated forces (e.g. magnetic forces) with the worst aggregate of
dimensional tolerances as obtained during manufacture.

When external forces are imposed on the motor shaft, this shall be indicated on the motor
data sheet and the B-10 lifetime calculation shall then take this into account. A reduction to
32,000 hours is allowed in this case.

The motor shall be suitable for continuous operation for at least 25,000 hours and the
construction of the bearing housing shall be such that relubrication, if required, can be carried
out without stopping the motor.

The bearing shall then be designed in such a way that it is impossible to over grease the
bearing and a suitable "grease relief valve" must be fitted, which makes it possible to
relubricate the motor bearings as many times as necessary to arrive at an operating time of
25,000 hours. The grease relief device or valve must be approved by the bearing
manufacturer.

When bearings are used which have to be re lubricated, a minimum relubrication interval is
required of 4,000 hours for horizontal motors, and 2,000 hours for vertical motors,
independent of the actual number of running hours.

5.10 Protective Systems

Normally all motor circuits will be protected against thermal overload and short-circuit currents
by a thermal relay and fuses.

For LV motors, which will be used under adverse cooling conditions e.g. at locations where
the cooling air inlets can be partially blocked by dust or where the fresh cooling air flow is
limited, the application of motor protection by means of temperature-sensitive thermistors
embedded in the windings may be required and will then be specified on the motor data
sheet. This protection will be used in addition to the normal thermal overcurrent protection.

If applied, thermistors shall be of the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) type and be
supplied complete with auxiliary equipment by the motor manufacturer under his full
guarantee.

5.11 Rating Plate

Manufacturer's serial number of the motor shall be die-stamped on a non-removable part of

the frame. This number shall also be shown on the rating plate.

The rating plate or plates shall be made of a corrosion-resistant metallic material, fixed to a
non-removable part of the frame, and shall be marked with the appropriate items in
accordance with IEC 60034-1, whereby the values given shall be those actually measured.

In addition to these items the following information shall be indicated:

- The standard specifications to which the motor conforms.

- Locked rotor current in percent of rated current.

- Locked rotor torque in percent of rated torque.

instructions shall be fixed to the motor frame, e.g. limited end float.

5.12 Shop Painting

The frame shall be painted in accordance with manufacturer's standards. However, the
painting shall at least consist of one coat of primer and two coats of oil-resistant finishing
paint.

The minimum painting thickness of motors shall be 230 microns.

6. INSPECTION AND TESTING

on the motor, if specifically required on the data sheet or accompanying documents:

- Measurement of acoustic sound level.

- Measurement of vibration.

Also motors for special duties or equipped with special protection equipment may require
additional tests.

6.2.4 Tests on Motors fitted with Thermistors

These tests shall be carried out to prove relay tripping times and maximum temperatures of
windings as well as the time to reset with the corresponding temperature.

- For this purpose, the temperature of the protected windings shall be increased slowly at
a steady rate, with the motor running at normal speed. At the point where the supply to
the motor is switched off, the maximum winding temperature shall be determined by the
resistance method, and the combined resistance of the three thermistors be measured.

- The maximum winding temperature and the combined resistance of the three thermistors
shall also be measured with the rotor locked and with the rated voltage supplied to the
stator.
