Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

Event management has a large impact on the industry thus Event

management company has strictly hired students with the knowledge and skills

that are fitted for the job because of their growth rate that is why they lack

manpower so they are looking for the student to fill what they are lacking now.

The requirements for the job are too high to achieve. Events Management

education has emerged in the recent school year as an alternative to the related

describe lines of tourism, leisure, cookery, and hospitality. While the number of

strands offering in Palawan High School continues to expand questions have

been raised regarding the employability of graduates in terms of their skills to

work in this industry and the capacity of the sector to employ the ever-increasing

number of graduates. Together with the rising problems or issues of events

management employment event organizer is restricted from requesting a high

knowledge. This students of Palawan High School find it hard to achieve.

According to Newell and Shackletol’s (2000:11) report, their report talks about an

individual with high quality that can respond effectively to….dynamic

environments. Conversely, employing an individual who does not meet the job

requirements, thus this can result in conflict or dilemma in the workplace, increase

training costs, and contribute to a loss of productivity and high turnover rates. The

reason why we are conducting this study because one of the goals of educational

institutions is to prepare their graduates to be workplace

7
ready upon graduation. Nonetheless, many traditional programs continue to teach

the traditional curriculum in traditional ways at the cost of neglecting the

knowledge and skills necessary for today’s job market and that of the future. This

has led to employability skills gaps (i.e lack of communication, teamwork, or

problem-solving skills) between what students are learning in their educational

program and what real-world employers are seeking in new graduates the

requirements for the job is not achievable in the within the capability of the

students. Employability as defined by Knight and Yorke(2003,p.5) is “a set of

achievement- skills, understanding, and personal attributes that make graduates

more likely to grasp what is need for the job event management employment and

be successful in their chosen occupations and positions desired, which benefits

themselves, the workplace, the community, and the economy” (Harvey,2005)

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the relevant literature and studies local or foreign

taken from some books, journals, published thesis and dissertation, and from the

internet.

A. Progress of Event Management

³Event management as a crucial skill started to surface in the 20th century

where people no longer relied upon limited resources and started needing a

professional hand in carrying out complex events. The need for face to face

meetings and large-scale events started growing with the advent of

industrialization. However, due to the failure some of the event management staff

or officials handling an event the trust issues sprouts in the industry of event. Most

of the problems are overspending and understaffing that's why it leads to higher

requirements for the job.

⁴Organizing an event is a complex and responsibility-laden process; the job

requires a huge amount of administration, attention to detail and time

management. Event planners organize a wide variety of occasions, including

Parris, ceremonies, and meetings. They manage to budgets, secure permits,

identify suitable venues, develop themes and arrange for sound systems, and to

promote business in the market. This strategy will help your business to launch

14
and advertise your products engage more clients and promote in the use of

media. To make things a easier, here is a list of a few of the many benefits of

event management:

https://www.linked.com/pulse/introduction-event-planning-rupesh-surve

a. Save Time

Event management can be helpful in terms of planning, site selections,

contract negotiations, housing, and logistics. Event Management can handle all of

this because of their own skill and company management. Your event will be

stress free and hustle free as I suggest event management is very helpful.

b. Cost Effective

Event management can estimate the budget needed for corresponding

event, in this matter you can now focus on your big event or plan. They will help

you manage your budget and spend it in more efficient ways.

c. Experience

At last, choose an event organizer that have a experience because there

are so many inexperienced event organizer that lack the ability and skills to

provide the expectations of clients. If you manage to find an experienced event

organizer then your event will be successful but it's not easy to find one.

15
B. Extent of the Event Management Industry

Event Industry are the social or non-social gatherings, or public

celebration, marketing, and new product launch. Event industry are also known as

live.

Event industry market size was valued at USD 88.99 Billion in 2020 and

is projected to reach USD 2,194.40 Billion by 2028 growing at a CAGR of 13.48%

from 2021 to 2028. The increase of the number of sponsor across the world

brings a hike in the event industry market, sponsors are recognized as a

backbone of the event market because this is the initial source of funding to host

the event. The Asia event industry growth is faster than we expected, is majorly

driven by upsurge in frequency of corporate meetings inductions, conferences,

exhibitions, music concerts, and sport events. Depending on age group, it is

classified into below 20 years, 21-40 years, 40 years and above. Country wise, it

is analysed across India, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Philippines,

Indonesia, South Korea, and rest of the Asia. According to the Asia event industry

analysis, on the basis of type, the corporate events and seminar segment

accounted for the around one - third half of the Asia event industry share in 2018.

According to Forbes Magazine, online events were valued at close to $78 Billion,

and expected to grow at 23.2% annually from 2020 to 2027 it surpassed our

expectations. This is the most common question that keeps all event organizers

awake at night. A question that is hard to fathom. Initially, there are positive signs

16
that 2021 will re-establish the industry. But recent news points otherwise. The

news that there is a new Covid-19 strain and the World Health Organization

declaring that are expecting another big wave of infection does not augur well

going into the future. The news about the pandemic may dampen the revitalization

of the physical events. However, online event is another matter.

Synthesis

Event Management started on the 20th century when people no longer

relied upon limited resources and started needing a professional hand in carrying

out complex events. Organizing an event is a complex and responsibility-laden

process; the job requires a huge amount of administration, attention to detail and

Based on my research Event Management is essential and needed for

those who don't have enough time to manage their own event therefore on 20th

century the era of Event Industry has arrived. Event Industry is a big help to the

Global, yet Event Industry has a disadvantage too such as Insufficient Data, Fixed

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, sampling method and techniques,

instrumentation, research methods and procedures, and data analysis used in this

study. It also includes Ethical considerations dealing with human participants,

vertebrate animals, potentially hazardous biological agents, and hazardous

activities and devices.

Research Design

This study will use the Correlational research design investigates

relationships between two (or more) variables without the researcher controlling or

manipulating any of them. A correlational research design is a non-experimental

research method known as correlational analysis and makes conclusions without

the help of any additional factors. It’s a type of quantitative research.

In this study we will use the correlational research method to conduct a

correlational study and measure the statistical relationship between two variables.

To know the significance relationship between the event management

employment and student skills and knowledge for the job.

According to Questionpro (2022) “Correlational research design". There are

primarily three categories of correlational research: [1] Positive correlation when

24
one variable rises and the other one follows, there is a positive link between the

two variables. When one variable declines, the other variable also declines. [1]

Negative correlation is blatantly the opposite of a healthy partnership. The second

variable will indicate a drop if one variable rises, and vice versa. [3] No correlation

there is no correlation between the two variables. A change in one variable might

not always result in a change in the other. If there’s have types of correlational

research meaning it also has have a characteristics of correlational research.

There are three main characteristics; [1] Non-experimental means that

researchers need not modify variables with a scientific technique to either agree

or disagree with a hypothesis. The researcher only measures and observes the

connection between the variables without modifying or conditioning them. [2]

Backward-looking correlational study exclusively examines historical data and

occurrences from the past. Researchers use it to measure and spot historical

patterns between two variables. A correlational analysis may reveal a favorable

association between two variables, but this can alter in the future. [3] Dynamic the

patterns between two variables from correlational study are never permanent and

are continually changing. Due to a variety of causes, two variables with negative

correlation study in the past may have a positive correlation relationship in the

future.

Sampling Technique and Procedures

The researchers will employ convenience sampling techniques in locating

the key informants or the respondents for their readiness towards the upcoming

25
Event Management job employment, in the selected locales. Convenience

sampling is a non-probability sampling method where units are selected for

inclusion in the sample because they are the easiest for the researcher to access.

This can be due to geographical proximity, availability at a given time, or

willingness to participate in the research.

Non-probability sampling means that researchers choose the sample as

opposed to randomly selecting it, so not all members of the population have an

equal chance of participating in the study. A sample is the participants you select

from a target population (the group you are interested in) to make generalizations

about. As an entire population tends to be too large to work with, a smaller group

of participants must act as a representative sample.

According to Burns and Grove (1993:779), a population is defined as all

elements (individuals, objects and events) that meet the sample criteria for

inclusion in a study. The study population consist of all couples in Puerto

Princesa City.

Simkus, J. (2022, Jan 30). Convenience Sampling: Definition, Method and

Examples. Simply Psychology. www.simplypsychology.org/convenience-

samplinghtml

Instrumentation

The researcher’s method in this study is through survey and structured

interview so it will be fit on our actual data analysis. Since they are students too

26
who have classes or have a plan to do, we borrowed their time to gather

information for a short period of time. The researcher was used a researcher-

made questionnaire, which was constructed by the researcher in gathering the

necessary data.

Data Gathering Procedures

To gather the data, the researchers were asked permission from the principal

of senior high school on conducted the study.

After the researcher- made questionnaire was validated, the researcher multiplied

it to the number of copies sufficient to accommodate all the respondents. This

study has a guide question where we used it on survey questionnaires on our

respondents to gather the data that are needed in this study. Data was gathered

by asking the questions by using survey to the selected participant to get more

information for it to be well analyse. They were asked to answer the given

question that were asked from them regarding the skills needed for the job and

after the question and answer by the researchers and the participants the data

collection all gathered for transcription.

Data Analysis

Correlation statistics determine if there's an relationship between two

variables in which both variables move in the same direction.

Measures of Position

27
A measure of position statistics determines the position of a single value in

relation to other values in a sample or a population data set. This statistics will

determine what is the most needed skills for applying in event management

industry.

Risk and Safety

To ensure the safety of the participants we are going to keep their

information’s confidential.

Ethical Considerations

In order to address ethical considerations, the researchers will ask initially

for the consent of the subject teacher to conduct a research study in the Grade 12

TVL Students and Organizers, and the student and organizers interviewees will

be selected fairly. The use of offensive, discriminatory, and derogatory language

will be avoided in the formulation of the interview guide. Furthermore, the

researchers will provide equitable treatment to the respondents before, during and

after the interview. Voluntary participation of respondents in the research is

important. Moreover, participants have rights to withdraw from the study at any

stage if they wish to do so, respondents should participate on the basis of

informed consent.

Human Participants

28
An investigation of Perspective of Grade 12 TVL for skills needed in event

management job will be conducted through an interview to determine the most

and highly favored skills of knowledge of the TVL Students, how they plan or

communicate. The key informants of the study will be the Grade 12 TVL Students

of Palawan National School and Organizers. The age of the respondents will

range from 17-18 years old for the students and 25-30 years old for the

organizers. The

purpose, benefits and risks associated with the involvement in the study will be

explained to the key informants. The researchers will guarantee that their

participation is voluntary and they have the rights to refuse and withdraw.

PRESENTATION, INTERPRETATION, AND ANALYSIS

This chapter mainly presents the analysis and interpretation of data used in

the study. The date is presented and arranged according to the questions raised

in the statement of the problem in Chapter 1.

Problem 1. What is the demographic profile of grade 12 students of Palawan

High school in terms of

a. Age

b. Ethnicity

The answers to this problem are presented below and on the following pages:

Figure 1.1

Age of Respondent

30
Figure 1.1 Pie chart shows the interpretation of the demographic profile of

grade 12 students in terms of age. The researcher found that the majority of the

respondents’ age are Eighteen (18) years old, followed by Seventeen (17) years

old, while the second lowest is Nineteen (19, and the remaining respondents are

Twenty (20) years old, therefore most of the grade 12 students are ready for the

upcoming job employment because they are in legal age.

Figure 1.2

Ethnicity of Respondent

31
Figure 1.2 Pie chart shows the interpretation of the demographic profile of

grade 12 students in terms of ethnicity. The researcher found out that most of the

respondents’ ethnicity is Tagalog voted 85.0% of Seventeen (17)out of 20

respondents, while there’s a different ethnicity which is Bisaya and has a 15.0%

vote of Three (3) respondents, therefore most of our respondents has a deep

understanding in our research.

Problem 2. What is the status of Grade 12 HE Block 4 students of Palawan

High School in event management in terms of :

A. Skills

B. Technology

C. Managing
