ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES

Learning Outcome 1

Choose at least two businesses to research, including a large and a small


organization. The first section of the report must ensure Mr. Patel understands
management information systems in organizations.
1. Analyze how data is used within one of the organizations you have chosen.
 A description about MIS.
 Structure and Components of MIS.
 Different types of Data.
 How the data is processed and stored in each component of
MIS.

Note: All the above points must be explained for the case study you have
chosen. You can include a general explanation and then explain in relation with
the Case Study.

2. Using the exemplar material evaluate different features of management


information systems.
 Explain different features of MIS.
 In the case studies that you have chosen, how are these features
employed, advantages and disadvantages.
 Suggest some features that could be added to the current MIS
that they use. Justify the suggestions.

3. Explain how FTF can comply with legal and organizational requirements
when using MIS.
 Different methods for storing data securely in an MIS.
 Explain few legal and organizational requirements of FTF and
different ways to handle them with reference to FTF.
4. Evaluate how FTF can utilise MIS for competitive advantage.
 Explain Enterprise Systems, Supply Chain Management,
Customer Relationship Management, Knowledge Management
Systems.
 Suggest a few ways in which FTF can improve the MIS that
they are currently using. You could add a few features or
modify the existing features.

Learning Outcome 2

Choose an organization or a relevant case study that will help you get access to the
actual MIS of an organization. You have to collect enough information about the
MIS so that you will have enough information to cover all the following questions.
The MIS must cover all areas like details of hardware, software, applications, tools
and handles used within the organization and so on. In short, your research has to
be in depth, and you have to collect sufficient information.

1. Analyze how the business uses its management information system to


improve performance.

For this, you have to explain the MIS of the organization that you
have chosen. You have to make sure that your explanation covers all
the above-mentioned areas. The explanation has to be in detail, and
you have to name the applications, softwares, tools and handles that is
included in their MIS.

2. Evaluate the effectiveness of this system.

You have to explain the advantages of the MIS system, covering all
the areas. Mention the drawbacks of the system and also mention why
these drawbacks makes the system less effective.
3. Make recommendations to improve the current system.

You can use information gathering techniques to collect information


about the MIS and to find meaningful recommendations to improve
the MIS. The recommendations must be realistic and achievable.

4. Include a plan to further develop the system.


You have to create a plan to implement the recommendations. The
plan must clearly state the steps you have to take to implement the
recommendations. Make sure the steps are in a logical order and make
sure to mention the time frames also for each step. The steps must
explain how the recommendations that you have mentioned could be
executed in the organization.
