12.1. Sidewalks and paved areas
12.1.3 Material
12.1.3.6 Add the following to Clause 12.1.3.6 of the Standard Specification:
Sidewalks surfacing area shall consist of precast concrete interlocking block paver
laid as per the Engineers recommendations.
Prior to ordering, the Contractor shall submit proposed Materials samples to the
Engineer for examination and test. The Engineer's approval of the interlock shall be
obtained before lying begins.
12.1.3.2. Curbs
Material
Add the following to Clause 12.1.3.2 of the Standard Specification
1. Hydraulically Pressed products are specified to be made on ‘Fielding
and Platt’ or equivalent plant types (3 mould or single mould) with
minimum 400 Ton Hydraulic Concrete Press specifically designed to
manufacture a wide range of concrete paving slabs and Road Curb to
the highest quality confirming to GSO EN 1339:2009 and GSO EN
1340:2010(E),wherever applicable.
2. Hydraulically pressed Curb and Paving Slabs are specified (including
specifications from the Municipal Authorities) to be only hydraulically
pressed Curb (not vibro-compacted or Precast) and shall be dense
particularly specified in such a way, to combat harsh soil sulphate
condition which can cause serious deterioration to the concrete and in
some cases causing complete failure.
3. Vibro-compacted Paving Slabs or Curb shall be rejected and shall not
be allowed as they are not specified by Omani Standard.
4. The Hydraulically pressed concrete products as specified above
should be manufactured utilizing the ‘Fielding and Platt’s Wet Mix
Process or any equivalent hydraulic press technology which has
proved to be a process guaranteeing high quality and durable
concrete products.
5. During the pressing operation (non vibrating), the cement and fines
shall be retained by a filter paper, whilst allowing excess water to be
expelled and the high pressure exerted shall ensure complete
hydration of the cement, without the need for steam curing.
