q2 Module 6 Emptech

This module discusses the nature and purpose of online platforms and applications. It defines platforms as programs created by developers that can be modified by outside users and serve as a base for developing other applications. Online platforms include websites that help users create web content using text, images, and video. The module categorizes platforms into access APIs, plugin APIs, and runtime environments. It provides examples of popular online platforms like YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, and Google Maps that are commonly used via their plugin APIs. Developers can integrate features from these platforms into their own websites and applications.

To create a good online presentation, webpage and content, you should know
the principle and techniques of design using online creation tools, platforms and
application to develop ICT contents.

LEARNING
1. Evaluate existing online creation tools, platforms and applications in
developing ICT content for specific professional tracks.
2. Apply web design principles and elements using online creation tools,
platforms and applications to communicate a message for a specific purpose
in specific professional tracks.
3. Create an original or derivative ICT content using online creation tools,
platforms and applications t o effectively communicate messages related to
specific professional tracks.

Before you flip the module into the next page, ask first the guidance of our lord

Dear Lord and Father of All

Thank you for ways in which you provide for all of us. For your protection and love we
thank you.
Help us focus our hearts and minds now on what we are about to learn.
Inspire us by your Holy Spirit as we listen and write.

DISCUSSION: THE NATURE AND PURPOSE SOF ONLINE

PLATFORMS AND APPLICATIONS

PLATFORM
 Refers to the program created by developers that can be modified or
reprogrammed by outside users.
 It is a facility for programming or developing applications.

EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGY G11
ONLINE PLATFORMS
 Are technologies that are grouped to be used as a base upon which other
applications processes or technologies are developed.
 Are online websites created to aid users in creating their web content and cater
to different kinds of information such as text, images, and video.
 In=s an online market place that place in one party in touch such as buyers
and sellers. These technologies help us to produce and share meaningful
information through online platforms.
Unique feature of Online Platforms
The ability to program, modify, access the application remotely using the
internet.
PLATFORM CATEGORIES
The Application Programming Interface (API) is a set of governing protocol
rules on how software elements should communicate and interact with one another.

API TYPES AND THEIR FUCNTIONS

ACCESS API
This type of API runs in a remote machine, server pr computer, and the
application is accessed remotely by a guest user application to draw data and
services. The development of this type of API requires financial capabilities
and technical capabilities.
It is the process of ensuring that calls with authenticated logins can enter API
and is a common type of internet platform that run elsewhere and call into the
platform via web services API to draw on data and services.
PLUG IN API
Most of the time, this API is used in the user end. Generally different
developers created different applications that can be integrated or “Plugged
in” to a core applications and/or the Graphics User Interface (GUI) of these
applications. Typical examples are the plug in programs for web browsers that
enables different functions such as application for playing video clips and
video games.
Is a software components that adds a specific feature to an existing software
application and enables you to writ custom code that interactions. The plug in
API is made up of hooks, also known as actions and filters.
1. Actions are triggered by specific events that take place in Word Press, such as
publishing a post, changing themes, displaying an administration screen.

3
EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGY G11
2. Filters are functions that Word Press passes data through, at certain points in
executions, just before taking some actions with the data.
RUNTIME ENVIRONMENT
This API is platforms for developing different applications, wherein programs
or applications codes are evaluated and compiled in the said API’s. The
application codes are uploaded or injected to the API and the API will test and
run the application code. Most of time, this API is hosted in a remote area and
requires the service of the internet.
The runtime environment is the execution environment provided to an
application or software by operating system and can send instructions or
commands to the processor and access other resources. Which implements
control over the order in which work that was specified in terms of the
language gets performed.
COMMON WEBSITES THAT ARE USE PLUG IN API’s ARE:
YOUTUBE YouTube is a website dedicated to hosting video clips.
Users can create an account on YouTube and upload
videos for public and private viewing. Most of the
websites integrate videos in to other developing
websites. To capitalize this website, an API tool is
created to enable developers to embed the YouTube
video player and play any YouTube content in their
websites.
FLICKR Is a website that caters to the hosting of images. Users
of the site create a private account wherein they can
upload images and categorize the images as to
whether they are viewed privately by the uploader or
by the public. An API is created to enable website
developer to embed or use images or Flickr.
TWITTER Twitter is a social networking service that enables
users to send and read short messages with 140
characters. These short messages area called tweets.
Twitter API’s are used by developers to embed twitter
functions in developing websites. Commonly, in using
Twitter API, user can find a facility to create messages
and tweet those messages.
FACEBOOK Is a social networking website that requires the user to
register an account and create user profile. A profile
contains the information about the owner of the
account such as his or her birthday, location, work and

education. Different users can then connect with one
another by adding them as a friend. On this website
user are also capable of posting information on their
wall or the page that contains the user’s information.
Also users can post images, videos, and website links
on their wall. Facebook API is used to connect
individual’s wall or an organization’s Facebook
account so that the audience user can easily access
facebook services to facebook account.
Google Maps Google Maps API’s are one of the most APIs by
website developers. Commonly Google Maps API’s
enable the developers to display an accurate map
depicting the satellite views or the actual appearance
and layout of roads and building in a particular area.

BASIC WEB DESIGN PRINCIPLES AND ELEMENTS

WEB DESIGN
 Is a concept of planning, creating updating and maintaining website.
 A good web design allows the user to understand the message, contents and

 Visitors may want to look for information, be entertained, play games,
socialize, or transact business.
B. COMMUNICATION
 Essentially, when we visit a website, the primary objective is to absorb
as much valuable information as possible in the shortest amount of time.
 Thus, the information or text on a website should be concise and direct
to the point.

Assume that you already have the web page and design. On a short size bond paper,
create a logo of your web page and illustrate or draw its own symbol/sign/icon,
make sure that it is not plagiarized from the internet or other sources. You must
