ADVANCED TIPS FOR SPEAKING TEST

PART 1
Tell me about yourself. – describirse a uno mismo.

En niveles intermedios, se suele contestar: My name is ________, I’am ___


years old; I am a/an ______ (adj) person… En niveles avanzados, se intenta
ir más allá, usando tiempos verbales más avanzados y un punto de vista
diferente.
IDEA:
OK… If I had to stand out some characteristics that could define me, I
would say that my ability to empathize and my effort in my obligations
could be the best points/attributes inside of me. In fact, people say that I am
full of energy and happiness, and they feel feedback inside of me. I am
proud of that!
Tell me about your family / your best friend/pet/boyfriend/ whoever /
whichever

En niveles intermedios, se suele describir las características personales y, si


es un grupo de personas como la familia, de quién está compuesta. En
niveles avanzados es mejor explicar la relación que tenéis – normalmente
positiva – y explicar el por qué os sentís bien (o mal) con esas personas.
IDEA:
OK… Regarding my best friend, I would say that he has become one of the
most valuable people in my life for several reasons. One of them is the
great times we spend together and how we can support each other to
overcome hard times.
**** Para hablar de familia también podemos usar “relatives”
Tell me about your hometown / this room / a place in general.

En niveles intermedios, se suele enumerar elementos que hay. En niveles


avanzados se podría esperar que se expliquen usos, componentes y
actividades de ese lugar.
IDEA:
OK… My hometown Gilena is not a huge town but a cozy one. There are
several activities to do, such as walking through one of the main streets
where you can drink coffee and spend time while you visit some pretty
buildings. Furthermore, there are a lot of parks that are useful if you have
children but look after them because the park is currently in works and the
ground is not safe enough.
What do you like doing in your free time / at the weekend / on my
days off / whenever…

En niveles intermedios, aquí también se suele enumerar mucho (I like


going out with my friends, going to the beach with my family…) Yo
recomiendo ir más allá y usar vocabulario un poco más complejo.
OK… Depending on how tired I am I like doing some activities or others. I
strongly love doing extreme sports like parachuting, mountaineering… but
If I needed to rest, I would practice relaxed sports like yoga or
meditation… But beyond these sports, I enjoy watching sunsets at the
beach while listening to the sound of the waves.

PART 2
La parte dos consiste en la descripción de una imagen con un timing de 45
segundos.
At the beginning….
1. Well, first of all, in this picture WHO / WHAT AND WHEN can be
seen.
Example: A group of people skiing in the snow can be seen.
2. SPECULATING: They could be + verb with -ing due to…
Example: They could be enjoying the activity due to their faces show us
cheerfulness.
At the end….
From my point of view, this picture brings me bad/good memories because
it reminds me when I used to + verb en forma base + predicate.
Example:
From my point of view, this picture brings me good memories because it
reminds me when I used to ski with my relatives at weekends.
But what happens in the middle of the description?
A. CLOTHES AND THE WEATHER.
They are wearing (adj) + (adj) clothes
INDOORS: So it is probably (season of year)
OUTDOORS: The weather is cold so it is probably (season).
Example:
They are wearing comfortable and warm clothes so it is probably winter.
B. THE BACKGROUND.
INDOORS: si hay algo que destaque se dice algo, pero en caso contrario,
no decimos nada.
OUTDOORS: teniendo en cuenta el timing, se dice lo que más destaque.

Se puede usar una pasiva impersonal que enuncie el problema…
It is well-known that people prefer watching films to reading books and
this could be due to several reasons. One of them could be _________.
Furthermore, another one could be _____________.
2. GIVE PERSONAL OPINIONS.
Tipo de pregunta que exprese busque una opinión personal.
What do you think about reading books through a tablet?
1. Si estamos de acuerdo con la pregunta podríamos empezar con una
cláusula que nos lleve a nuestra opinión.
Technology has developed new ways of reading, and that’s incredible!
From my point of view, reading books on a tablet is more comfortable,
cheaper, and easier than printed books! In fact, you just need a small device
and you can carry all the books you want during a trip!
2. Si no estamos de acuerdo, podríamos usar una cláusula de contraste
y luego expresar nuestra opinión personal. Cerrar con un acuerdo
puede ser ideal.
Although technology has developed new ways of Reading, and it has its
advantages; I prefer reading printed books to online ones due to several
reasons. One of them could be __________, while another one could be
___________________. But the important thing here is to promote reading
habits, whether it’s on printed books or online ones.
3. ESTABLISHING PREFERENCES.
What would you prefer Reading online books or printed books?

What are the (dis)advantages of reading online books?
Well, even though reading online books can seem to be better in so many
aspects than reading printed books, reading online books has several
disadvantages! One of them could be the damage it causes to your eyes due
to you can develop farsightedness and astigmatism if you spend a lot of
hours reading! And not only your eyes, but your head can suffer too as a
consequence of electromagnetic waves!

EXPRESIONES AVANZADAS.
That’s my cup of tea. > Se me da bien.
Out of the blue > De repente.
I tried my best > Di lo mejor de mí.
To be under the weather > sentirse mal (I was under the weather yesterday).
To be over the moon > estar Feliz. (I was over the moon when I passed my
Aptis Exam).
Not my business > No es asunto mío.
It’s on me / on you > invito yo / invitas tú. > We went to celebrate my
father’s birthday in a restaurant but it was on him so we had not to pay
nothing.
