LEVEL OF SATISFACTION AMONG THE RESIDENTS OF BARANGAY CARMEN IN THE

ETHICAL STANDARDS PERFORMED BY POLICE OFFICERS

RATIONALE:

The behavior of police officers is critical in guaranteeing a community's safety and

security. Ethical standards are critical in regulating police actions, preserving public
trust, and defending the rule of law. However, there have been cases of police
misbehavior, such as bribery, abuse of authority, and a lack of honesty. These instances
have caused concerns among the people of Barangay Carmen, necessitating an
assessment of their degree of satisfaction with the local police force's ethical standards.
Previous study on police misconduct and ethical standards has shown that police
misconduct has a detrimental impact on community trust and cooperation. Bribery
incidents have harmed public trust in law enforcement and hampered efficient crime
prevention and resolution. Police officers' lack of integrity and honesty has resulted in a
breakdown in community-police relations, making locals unwilling to report crimes or
participate with investigations.
The current study intends to analyze people of Barangay Carmen's satisfaction with the
ethical standards maintained by police personnel. This study aims to identify potential
gaps in ethical standards implementation and recommend solutions for improvement by
studying people' perspectives and experiences. Understanding what variables impact
people' satisfaction with the police is critical for improving community-police relations
and maintaining effective and equitable law enforcement. The importance of this study
stems from the rising concern about police misbehavior and its influence on community
safety and well-being. While some past studies have looked at police wrongdoing, few
have looked into communities' comfort with ethical standards. This study gap points to
the necessity for a more localized examination to uncover particular challenges in
Barangay Carmen and suggest focused remedies.
The fundamental objective of this study is to provide significant insights into the level of
satisfaction among inhabitants of Barangay Carmen with police officers' ethical
standards. The findings will throw light on possible areas for development and provide
legislators and law enforcement organizations with guidance on how to improve ethical
behaviors within the police force. Furthermore, the localized methodology of the study
assures that the findings are relevant and applicable to the specific community, making
it more actionable for local authorities.
This is accomplished by assessing the level of contentment among inhabitants. This
survey can give significant information on how the community sees and interacts with
police officers by analyzing the degree of happiness among citizens. Positive
community-police connections may make the neighborhood safer, increase cooperation
in reporting crimes, and lead to improved crime-solving outcomes. The study might offer
insight on the specific ethical standards that police officers in Barangay Carmen follow
and those that should be improved. This data may be utilized to create targeted training
programs and policies to improve the overall ethical conduct of police officers.
Policymakers and law enforcement organizations can use the data to develop policies
that address community concerns and expectations. This may result in the adoption of
policies that encourage openness, honesty, and accountability. Policymakers and law

soliciting citizens' thoughts on the ethical standards of police personnel. It guarantees
that all sectors of the public have a say in law enforcement procedures that affect their
lives directly.
The primary issue addressed by this study is the level of satisfaction among Barangay

Theoretical Framework:
 Social Exchange Theory by George Homans:
Social Exchange Theory suggests that individuals engage in social interactions
based on a cost-benefit analysis. According to this theory, people seek to maximize
rewards and minimize costs in their relationships. Applying this theory to the study of
ethical standards and satisfaction, researchers can examine how residents perceive
the ethical behaviors of police officers in Barangay Carmen. The theory suggests
that individuals are more likely to be satisfied if they perceive a favorable exchange
ratio between the ethical standards exhibited by the police officers (rewards) and the
potential negative consequences of unethical behavior (costs). The Social Exchange
Theory proposes that people engage in social interactions based on the perception
of rewards and costs. Applying this theory to the context of policing, individuals in
society interact with police officers based on their assessment of the benefits (trust,
fairness) they receive from the police in exchange for their compliance and
cooperation, while also considering the costs (accountability, transparency) they may
incur in these interactions. The theory suggests that individuals are more likely to be
satisfied with the ethical standards of police officers when they perceive a fair
exchange of positive outcomes and costs in their interactions.
 Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development by Lawrence Kohlberg:
Kohlberg's theory focuses on the moral reasoning and development of individuals. It
proposes that people progress through six stages of moral development, from pre-
conventional morality to post-conventional morality, as they mature. This theory can
be applied to the study of the relationship between ethical standards and satisfaction
because it provides a framework for understanding how individuals' moral reasoning
may influence their perception of ethical behavior and subsequent satisfaction
levels. By considering the stage of moral development of the residents in Barangay
Carmen, researchers can explore how their ethical standards align with their
satisfaction levels.

 Expectancy-Disconfirmation Theory by Richard Oliver:

The Expectancy-Disconfirmation Theory posits that satisfaction is influenced by the
perception of expectations being met or exceeded. According to this theory,
individuals form expectations about a product, service, or experience, and
satisfaction is derived from comparing those expectations with their actual
experience. In the context of ethical standards and satisfaction with police officers in
Barangay Carmen, residents might have preconceived expectations of how police
officers should behave ethically. By measuring the level of satisfaction and
comparing it with residents' expectations, researchers can assess whether the
ethical standards performed by police officers meet or exceed residents'
expectations, thus affecting their satisfaction levels.
These three theoretical frameworks have been chosen because they provide different
perspectives on the relationship between ethical standards and satisfaction. Kohlberg's
Theory of Moral Development helps understand how individuals' moral reasoning
influences their ethical standards and subsequently their satisfaction levels. Social
Exchange Theory provides insights into the cost-benefit analysis individuals make
regarding ethical behavior, which can impact satisfaction. The Expectancy-
Disconfirmation Theory offers a framework for examining how residents' expectations of
ethical standards shape their satisfaction levels. By incorporating these theories,
researchers can gain a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the
satisfaction of residents in terms of the ethical standards performed by police officers in
Barangay Carmen.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK:

(PLEASE KO EDIT DIRI BI SA DEPENDENT UG INDEPENDENT)

Your conceptual framework aims to investigate the relationship between certain profile
variables of police officers (independent variables) and their level of satisfaction in the
ethical standards they perform (dependent variables). In this case, the independent
variable consists of the officers' profile characteristics, such as age, gender, and
potentially other factors like years of service, rank, education level, and previous
disciplinary history.
 The dependent variables are related to the ethical standards displayed by the
police officers. These could include:
 Integrity: Refers to the adherence to moral and ethical principles, honesty, and a
strong sense of duty and responsibility.
 Honesty: Involves being truthful, sincere, and transparent in all interactions and
decision-making processes.
 Professional Conduct: Encompasses how the officers conduct themselves in
their duties and interactions with the public, colleagues, and superiors.
 Respect for Civil Rights: Focuses on the officers' ability to uphold and protect the
rights of individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.
 Use of Force: Examines how officers apply force, ensuring it is necessary,
proportionate, and within the boundaries of established guidelines.

officers rate their satisfaction with ethical standards. You would then analyze the data to
identify potential patterns or relationships between the independent and dependent
variables.
It's important to note that ethical standards and their satisfaction are complex constructs
that can be influenced by various factors, and your conceptual framework is a way to
explore the potential connections between the officers' profiles and their perceptions of
ethical conduct within the police force. The findings from your research could have
implications for police training, policy development, and strategies to improve overall
ethical practices within law enforcement.
