Objectives:

1. What is sustainable development?

"Sustainable development is a development that meets the needs of the present, without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." The term "sustainable
development" has many distinct meanings, but at its heart, it refers to a method of growth that seeks to
balance many, frequently incompatible needs while being conscious of the social, economic, and
environmental constraints that our society is subject to. In order to achieve sustainable development, the
requirements of the current population must be met without jeopardizing the ability of the following
generation to do the same. Sustainable development goes beyond environmental concerns. That is not its
primary focus at all. In order to create a strong and healthy society, it is crucial to address the varying needs
of individuals in various areas, promote social cohesion, and provide equal opportunity for all.

2. How can we ensure sustainable development in our locality?

Sustainable development starts in ourselves. We must be disciplined to help our locality and the world
itself. We must use eco-friendly resources and technology to prevent the scarcity of our natural resources.
Advertise the importance of tree planting and also do an activity of it to conserve our resources. Moreover,
conduct seminar workshops to enhance the knowledge of others in the sustainable development plan.

3. What are the components of sustainable development?

Social Sustainability
By making investments and developing new services that make up the skeleton of our society, social
sustainability aims to protect social capital. With regard to communities, cultures, and globalization, the idea
allows for a more expansive understanding of the world. It means protecting future generations and to be
aware that what we do can affect other people and the entire globe. With ideas like cohesiveness,
reciprocity, and honesty, as well as the significance of interpersonal interactions, social sustainability focuses
on preserving and enhancing social quality.

Environmental Sustainability
By safeguarding natural resources (such as land, water, air, and minerals), environmental sustainability seeks
to enhance human welfare. When plans and policies make sure that the demands of the present generation
are addressed without jeopardizing those of future ones, they are said to be environmentally sustainable.
According to Dunphy, Benveniste, Griffiths, and Sutton (2000), environmental sustainability emphasizes how
businesses can generate beneficial economic results without causing any harm, either now or later, to the
environment.

Human Sustainability
In order to preserve and enhance society's human capital, human sustainability is pursued. The term "human
sustainability" refers to a wide range of initiatives including those aimed at improving access to services,
nutrition, knowledge, and skills. Because there are a finite number of natural resources and land areas, it is
important to strike a balance between continued development, health advancements, and ensuring
everyone's economic well-being.

Fiscal/ Economic Sustainability

Maintaining capital is the goal of economic sustainability. Economic sustainability attempts to raise living
standards, whereas social sustainability is concerned with enhancing social equity. It is the effective utilization of
resources to sustain long-term corporate profitability in the business world.

4. Why do we need sustainable development?

Satisfies basic human needs
People will have to compete for scarce resources including food, shelter, and water due to the population
boom. A long-lasting infrastructure is nearly totally necessary for the adequate provision of these
fundamental needs.

Agriculture-Related Need
The focus of sustainable development is on agricultural practices that increase yields while preserving the
health of the soil, which provides food for a big population, such as efficient seeding methods and crop
rotation.

In control of climate change

Sustainable development strategies can help to reduce climate change. The usage of fossil fuels including
coal, natural gas, and oil should be lessened as part of sustainable development principles. Because they will
run out in the future and cause greenhouse gas emissions, fossil fuels cannot be used as a source of energy
indefinitely.

Economic/ Financial Stability

Sustainable development methods have the potential to build more economically robust economies all
around the world. Renewable energy sources can be used to power the economies of developing nations
without access to fossil resources.

Keep the Biodiversity

Biodiversity is significantly impacted by unsustainable development and excessive consumption habits.
Species rely on one another for survival because of the way the ecosystem of life is set up. For instance,
plants create the oxygen that people need to breathe. Renewable energy sources and organic farming
methods that don't release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere are encouraged by sustainable
development techniques.
