• If this is the case then, does your image


really say that you are professional?
• Does it express a message that you are
happy or contented?
• Does it show that you are what you are?
• Does your physical packaging represent the
real you inside?
• Does your image show that you have what
it takes to be someone (leader, manager,
supervisor, etc.)?

• How will you feel is an elegantly wrapped gift


contains not so elegant gift as you expected?
• On the other hand, how will you feel if a gift
wrapped in a simple gift wrapper without even a
ribbon but surprisingly, the gift was really good?
• The examples given above are two things that we
have to consider as a person.
• The first represents someone who looks very
elegant but has the characteristic of an unelegant
person.

• As future tourism and hospitality
professionals, your image will be
one of the basis when you apply for
a job.
• Whatever position you are applying
for, your image will be checked.
• Are you fitted to that position?
• Are you the right person for that
job?
• Do you have what it takes to be
part of the company?
• The ways you present yourself in
the world will greatly affect how
people treats you.

• If you present yourself as a good person,
then you will be treated well.
• If you present it in an uneducated way,
chances are, you will be treated the same
way and may not be respected too.
• Do you look undeserving?
• Good if not, but if you do, try changing it,
because chances are, you will be treated that
way.
• Do not be defensive.

• Believe it or not, you are inviting


attacks.
• But if you look intelligent, strong,
confident, trust yourself, you will
be responded with respect and
deference.
• Those are the impacts of our
image.

As a human beings in the corporate world, you will have to consider this:
• Your image will greatly affect the way you represent your company.
• Your image will reflect not only who you are, but also what your company is.
• Note also that a single mistake because of the image you portray with the guests you
interact with will create a big impact to the company.

• As future tourism and hospitality professionals, check yourself.
• Many young Filipinos are not confident of themselves.
• They present it poorly.
• If you are one of them, check and do the necessary actions to change it.
• Do not stuck with something negative.
• Listen to what other people say about you.

• If more than two people comment on
the same thing, check it out. You
normally do not see your negative
attributes.
• It is therefore important that you listen
to them.
• Though the process of change is
complicated, the important thing is
you know what to change, what to
improve, thus, personality
enhancement will come along the way.

• Most, if not all, say that our personality, image, or
ourself is a representation of the environment
where we came from.
• Our past experiences greatly affect what we are
now.
• If one was raised by a family who is God fearing,
responsible, respectful, kind and closely tied,
expect that this person will have a good
personality.
• He will be God fearing too, responsible, respectful
and he will not be heard saying profane words or
hear him pick a fight with someone.

• This person will be patient and understanding.
• On the other hand, a person who lived and grew in an environment full of vices,
surrounded by people who were always shouting and using words of profanity, the same
way will be seen of him.
• Some people are treated important by their family.
• They are maybe the center of attraction, of the favorite among the members of the
family.
• When they got used to it, they will feel the same and assume to be treated that way
outside their home.

• When a person is not being obliged to do
house chores, or if assigned only some easy
tasks, this person will assume to have fewer
tasks in the office or in the company where he
will be working.
• You will hear him complaining, or will say “I
did clean the dining area, why should I clean
the kitchen?”
• Sometimes, our nicknames at home affect our
personal being.
• Don’t ne used to being called “ineng”, “totoy”,
“nene”, “pogi”, or “baby”.

• If you are one of those being called that way, or any
other nicknames that are old patterns already, try to
change it.
• You, as a professional being called outside as “totoy”
is awkward.
• Try to have a name that will suit your personality, or
the person you want to be in the future.
• Or better yet, stay with your full name.
• If you are a professional, be used to being called “Mr.
Santos” or ”Ms. Enriquez”, it sounds good, and this is
one way to please guests in the hospitality industry.
• In other words, this representation just prove to you
that what you experienced or the environment you

• Just remember this: the most important thing to consider when in plan of changing or
enhancing your personality is: just be honest with yourself.
• Know and decide what’s right to be changed for you.

• The following are some image types:


Authoritative
• this type is someone who could be respected as someone with leadership
capacity someone who could command his members, or someone who has
personality of being strong and confident.

• This is a characteristic relating to a woman.
• A woman should look and be respected as a
woman having attributes of being a lady.

Businesslike
• An image having the characteristics of a
businessman.
• Normally someone who is confident, a
serious type and in suit or business attire.

• Other images that you may want to choose from is being casual, sexy, macho, chic,
understated, friendly and flashy.
• Whatever image will that be, make sure it fits your aspirations.
• You cannot be the casual type when you want to be a bossy type.
• You cannot be friendly or approachable if you are so serious.
• Note that body language is very important with the image you are portraying.
• If you want to be authoritative but you do not
act like one, chances are, you will not be
recognized as one.
• So, if you want to be the masculine type, act

want to portray, be prepared of what the
people around you will say.
• Some will be positive; some will be negative.
• Your new look will help you acquire more

• Just be sure that the look you want to present
today will be the same the next day.

• The best things to consider for image change is


your environment.
• Do not have a hair of a rock star if you are in an
office environment.
• Do not wear slippers if you are going to attend a
debut party.
• If invited to attend casual party, do not be in
formal attire.
• If you are applying for a job, create an image
that will let your interviewer like your
personality.
• Show something that shows an image of
masculinity if a man, and femininity if woman,
and an image of intelligence and stability.

• Show confidence when you talk.
• In other words, the image you
have to portray should
camouflage the environment or
occasion you are in.
• Again remember, your image
communicates or gives an
impression of who you are.
• Always think that you want to
receive a positive responses from
other people.
