“FWD EQPT VAL” Advisory message and “VALVE” light

With a hard FWD EQPT VAL EICAS Advisory


message and VALVE light, this is a quick method
to isolate what valve / circuit(s) is the problem.

• Four valve circuitries, V12, V91, V140 and V178


can be checked at the P50 panel.
• Two valve circuitries, V90 and V900 can be checked
at the P36 panel.

• MEC
• P50
• Terminal block TB182
• Column 22
• Row A-B-C-D

PANEL P50, TERMINAL BLOCK TB 182 DETAILS

CHECK FOR MORE THAN ZERO VOLTS DC AT COLUMN 22 IN EACH ROW, ROW A, B, C AND ROW D:

• EACH ROW HAS THREE HOLES, TWO HAVE WIRES GOING INTO THEM AND THE OPEN HOLE
IS A TEST PORT. (SEE NEXT SLIDE FOR DETAILED IMAGE).
• EACH HOLE WILL HAVE THE SAME VOLTAGE WITHIN THE ROW. THE SMALL HOLE WILL TAKE
A SPECIAL PROBE ADAPTER THAT IS HALF SIZE, LIKE FLUKE 8845A-EFPT OR FLUKE TP88.
THESE CAN BE PURCHASED FROM GRAINGER.

• EACH THREE HOLE POSITIONS IN EACH BLOCK HAVE A COMMON BASE AND VOLTAGE CAN

P50 GROUNDING POINTS
GOOD LOCATION FOR A GROUND IS ON THE TOP OF THE P50 TOWARD THE LEFT,
OR
THE REGULAR ESD WRIST STRAP ATTACH POINT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF P50.

SET YOUR METER TO VOLTS DC, GROUND AT TOP OF THE CABINET AND PROBE
WITH SMALLEST ADAPTOR

FINDINGS

IF YOU FIND MORE THAN ZERO VOLTS YOU HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM CIRCUIT/VALVE.
have found the only problem.
TO VERIFY THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM PROVIDE A GROUND TO THE SAME LOCATION AND HAVE SOMEONE
CHECK TO SEE IF THE FWD EQPT VAL EICAS MESSAGE AND VALVE LIGHT EXTINGUISH.
IF THE MESSAGE IS STILL THERE THEN KEEP TESTING IF THE MESSAGE GOES AWAY YOU

• MORE THAN ZERO VOLTS AT ROW “A” IS A PROBLEM WITH THE OVERBOARD EXHAUST
VALVE, V12  MEL 21-58-07-02-01

• MORE THAN ZERO VOLTS AT ROW “B” IS A PROBLEM WITH THE INBOARD SUPPLY
VALVE, V91  MEL 21-58-08-01-01

• MORE THAN ZERO VOLTS AT ROW “C” IS A PROBLEM WITH THE OVERRIDE VALVE, V140
 NO GO ITEM

• MORE THAN ZERO VOLTS AT ROW “D” IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BYPASS SHUTOFF
VALVE, V178  NO GO ITEM, BUT INTERCHANGEABLE WITH V91.

• ONCE VOLTAGE IS FOUND, SHORT THE PORT TO GROUND AND VERIFY THE MESSAGE /
LIGHT GO AWAY.

HOW TO CHECK V90 MIV & V900 FDARS VALVES IN P36
• WITH POWER OFF, IN THE P36 PANEL REMOVE RELAY K2197. THE SCREWS AND
WASHERS ARE REALLY SMALL.
• CHECK FOR GROUND AT RELAY BASE SOCKET 8, IF YOU HAVE NO GROUND
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH V900 VALVE / CIRCUITRY.  MEL 21-58-15
• CHECK FOR GROUND AT RELAY BASE SOCKET 4, IF YOU HAVE NO GROUND YOU
HAVE A PROBLEM WITH V90 VALVE / CIRCUITRY.  NO GO ITEM
