Patrick Meier uses crisis maps and social media to organize information and give the big picture on
what’s happening at a disaster site.
However, scientists are using other forms of technology to collect data , to generate solutions
and to help people in need. Some scientists are developing microbots to explore where humans cannot
easily go, such as outer space or inside the human body. Microbots are simple machines, but when
released in large amount , they can accomplish a lot. If sent into a disaster area, scientists could
monitor their movements and measure their progress while they search for evidence of
life. If one microbot gets lost, the mission could still continue.
