Field Trip Project 

Grading: 20%

Instructor: Neda Ghabeli

Imagine you are a tour guide and want to introduce one of these places to a group of tourists

(your classmates). Look at this list and choose one place.

 Gastown Steam Clock

 Canada Place

 Vancouver public Library

 Science World

 Vancouver Art Gallery

 Angel of Victory

 Terry Fox Memorial

 Holy Rosary Cathedral

 Olympic Cauldron

Use imagery, simile and sensory language to create a clear picture of the place. You should also

describe the Function(s), Parts and Characteristics (Opinion, Size, shape, condition, age, origin

and material) of the place you visit and attach some pictures of the place. Your visit can be

virtual.

Step 1: Choose Your Place

 Look at the list of places provided and choose one place.


 Each student will choose one place they are most interested in exploring. You can do

some research to gather information about your chosen location.

Step 2: Create a PowerPoint Presentation

 Using PowerPoint or any presentation software, create a visually appealing presentation

about your selected place.

 Your presentation should have at least 8 slides.

Slide 1: Introduction

 Include a catchy title and a welcoming image of your chosen place.

Slide 2: Function and Significance

 Describe the primary function and significance of the place. Why is it important to

Vancouver's cultural heritage or architecture?

Slide 3: Parts and Characteristics

 Detail the different parts that make up the place (if applicable).

 Describe its characteristics such as size, shape, condition, age, and material used in its

construction.

Slide 4: Historical Background (For older historical places)

 If your chosen place has a historical background, provide some information about its

origin, construction, and any interesting story related to its history.

Slide 5: Location and Surroundings

 Show a map highlighting the location of your chosen place within Vancouver.

 Describe the surrounding environment and any neighboring attractions or landmarks.

Slide 6: Artistic or Architectural Elements


 Focus on the artistic aspects or architectural design that make your chosen place unique

and appealing.

Slide 7: Visitor Experience

 Describe what visitors can expect when they visit this place.

 Include sensory language to create a vivid picture of the experience.

Slide 8: Conclusion

 Summarize the key points of your presentation and share your personal impression of the

place.

 Encourage your classmates to visit the place during their time in Vancouver.

Step 3: Visuals and Multimedia

 Use high-quality images and multimedia (videos, audio clips) to enhance your

presentation and engage your audience.

Step 4: Presentation Day

 When everyone has completed their presentations, we'll have a virtual presentation day

where each student will showcase their chosen place.

 Be prepared to answer questions and share interesting facts about your location (Q & A).

Have fun exploring Vancouver's treasures through art and architecture, and let your creativity

shine in your presentations! Enjoy the journey!


Step 5: Writing (Major Assignment)

Additional to your PowerPoint, you are going to write an informational process text. The topic is

introducing one of the places you chose above as a tour guide. You can also describe the

Function(s), Parts and Characteristics (Opinion, Size, shape, condition, age, origin and material)

of the place.

It is one paragraph.

Use the informational process language.

Use imperatives if applicable.

It is between 150 – 200 words.

Submission due date: Aug 3rd, 2023

Presentation Day: Aug 4th, 2023
