D. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON:
History of Physical education, fitness, health and wellness
-Started in the primitive era that has existed since the earliest stages of human society, in forms
as simple as the transmission of basic survival skills, such as hunting, running, leaping, jumping
and climbing. This Physical activity is for survival connection with their quest for foods,
protection against a hostile environment.
- Ancient civilization like Chinese, Indian, and Egyptian civilizations had traditions of physical
education and activity, most commonly acted out in sporting competitions, military tactics and
training, and martial arts.
Pre-Spanish Period
- Basic survival skills
-Children were usually taught by their parents and tribal tutors and education was geared more
towards skill development
- Maragtas, an ancient manuscript found in Pany written in A.D. 1212. This historical document
mentions about the unusual ability and bravery of a negrito named Marikudo. Who had capturing
wild animals by himself without the assistance of anyone or even a dog
- The people in the lowlands especially those who settled along the river banks and lakes had
bathing and swimming as their favorite pastime
- It also took place in religious practices, dances and music
- Among their dances, music and religious practices are imitative their way of life like Pina pa-
ni-lan which is the motion of gathering honey from tree.
-Physical activities consisted of producing foods through planting and cultivating the mountain
-Religious practices pagan people worshiped their Gods and made offering to the anitos and
spirits. Dancing was a form of religious activity and danced to please their Gods like CAÑAO a
dance for victory in a tribal war.
-The father of modern physical education as we know it today was Friedrich Ludwig Jahn
-who was a teacher in the early 1800s who began teaching a program of outdoor physical
education activities for students in the secondary schools where he taught. Some of his methods,
such as the balance beam, parallel bars, and rings, serve as the fundamental equipment for
gymnastics. In fact, he created the first gymnastics club for youth and adults.

GENERALIZATION:
Physical education benefits a growing individual’s mind and body. Increasing physical
activity allows students to focus more in school, prevents injury and disease, improves
their self-esteem, and reduces stress, anxiety, and depression, among other mental health
benefits.
