Presentation

We are pleased to present the 6th revised and corrected edition of the Playlist Digital manual from
version 5.0.8.1 on.

From its creation to the present day the Playlist Digital presents itself as an innovative software
and there is nothing comparable to robustness and usability when it comes to a Playout and
automation of radio studios.

Throughout all these years we are always developing new features for this product, without losing
the main essence: the simplicity and versatility of the software. Playlist Digital is ahead of its
time, which makes it adaptable to new technologies and usable by any type of radio station.

In this version we present the features that have been implemented in this year and the
corrections due to previous editions of the manuals.

We are always grateful to you client. You are the main mentor of this powerful system. We will
always be together and every day we will make your radio station a successful venture.

Configuration and Usage Guide

Minimum Specs

The Playlist Digital is very efficient when using the resources of your equipment. In a current
specs’ equipment, the CPU consumption is below 2%. T h e minimum specs to use the software
are met by industry standard computers. If you plan on using the software connected to video
playback and streaming software, we recommend up-to-date computers with performance and
specs compatible with the recommended by the software.

We recommend using dedicated graphics cards in newer versions or CPUs that offer good video
performance, such as Intel Graphics from 11th generation CPU or Higher. On-board sound cards
feature audio quality acceptable only for cueing, but not acceptable for broadcasting a radio
station's programming. We listed some components that might be some components of the
computer that deserve attention.

Hardware recommendations
Minimum requirements:

• 11th Generation Intel® Core ™ i5 CPU or higher

• Ram of 4GB or higher
• Hard drive compatible with the size of the content library. At least 50 GB free for free
operation of the operating system
• 21-inch HD display or bigger
• Windows DirectSound or audio compatible sound cards (WDM-type driver). Two audio
interfaces are recommended, one for the main output and one for cueing.
• Keyboard and Mouse.

Why acquire a good performance computer?

The quality of a system depends greatly on the quality of the hardware used. There is no point in
installing a good system on hardware that usually freezes, heats up, or has low performance.

Memory
In any configuration, we always recommend a minimum of 8GB of RAM or according to the
minimum specifications of the installed OS.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 1 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Storage
Remember that the more disk space, a greater amount of content stored and available for
programming. Always buy the disk with the largest storage available on the market, noting a good
cost-benefit ratio. The disks installed in the current equipment have enough performance. The
SSD drivers are highly recommended for installing the OS and the main software.

In addition, the video collection occupies a larger space than the musical collection. Therefore, opt
for a disk capable of storing the collection and with an expansion capacity.

Audio interface
M-Audio – Has a higher cost and professional audio quality. It has a model with 2 stereo
input/output channels.

Behringer – Cost may vary according to the model chosen, but offers high quality at an affordable
price.

Focusrite – The Focusrite has a higher price on any model, but its user feedback excellent.

Tascam – Price above average, but has an excellent audio quality and good support.

Sound cards and audio interfaces from other professional

brands are also recommended as long as they support WDM. It
is worth mentioning that the Playlist Digital, does not support
ASIO devices.

Configuration and Usage Guide

Operating system
Playlist Solutions products work on any version of the Windows operating system (starting with
Windows 10), whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit.

As the main studio computer (computer where the Playlist Digital playout is installed, responsible
for playing the station's programming), should be a more robust equipment,we order the corporate
line of Microsoft operating systems: Windows 10 PRO or Home, Windows 11 PRO and Windows
Server 2019, the latter for having a higher limit of simultaneous connections via SMB (file server).

For network stations we recommend using Windows 10 Home, or Windows 11 Home.

Another important factor is the use of the NTFS file system (NT File System), which in addition to
being more secure is also more reliable.

Configuration and Usage Guide

Installation

Run the installer

On the computer, where the Playlist Digital will be installed (we will call this computer the
MAINSTUDIO), run the InstalaPlaylistDigital file.exe which can be downloaded from the Playlist
Client Area.

Step 1: Run InstalaPlaylistDigital.exe. Click Next.

Step 2: Accepting the License Agreement, Confirm and click Next.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 4 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Step 3: Setting the folder that Playlist Digital will be installed.

We recommend that Playlist Digital be installed in C:\Playlist. You can switch to D:\Playlist or any
other drive you want. Confirm and click Next.

Step 4: Select the tasks the installer will perform while installing Playlist Digital.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 5 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Step 5: Details about the installation. Confirm and click Install.

Step 6: Wait for the installation to finish.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 6 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Step 7: Installation complete.

The software will be installed on the folder C:\PLAYLIST\PGM.

A shortcut to Playlist Digital will be created on your desktop and on the Windows Start menu. The
"Register" command will be executed

Share the Playlist folder (C:\PLAYLIST), and give full access permission. For security reasons
avoid sharing C:\. The other computers on the network will use Playlist Digital over the network,
through shortcuts, without the need to install the software components.

* If you want Playlist Digital to be installed on another drive other than C:\, you can move the
Playlist folder to another drive (D:\ or any other drive available on your computer), Playlist Digital
will work normally. We do NOT recommend that you move the Playlist folder to a subfolder,
because by default, not due to software limitations, Playlist Digital is installed at the root (C:\ or
any other unit).

Setting up Playlist Digital

Creating Folders
For a better organization of your audio files and texts, which will be used on Playlist, we
recommend creating folders to store them.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 7 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

An example is the creation of folders and subfolders with specific denominations for each type of
audio.

Example: Inside the folder Playlist, there is a folder with the name of Music. Inside, create other
folders such as "ROCK", "TOP SONGS", "POP", among others.

The users can create and name folders according to their needs.

We recommend all folders to be stored in the same computer where Playlist is installed. If you do
not know how to create a folder in Windows, refer to the appendix of this manual.

The next step is to make Playlist Digital able to view audio files that are inside the folders.

Setting up folders
Playlist Digital heavily use shortcuts for folders set up as well as to ease the communication
between the recording studio, the commercial department and the computer Main Studio, on the
voiceover studio. Therefore, a good understanding of how Config Manager works is welcome.

For more information about how to create shortcuts on

Windows, see the appendix of this manual in the Config
Manager topic

Playlist Digital locates folders through Config Manager. After installing Playlist Digital, an
application is created, inside the folder Playlist\Pgm (C:\Playlist\Pgm), where all the Playlist
folders are located (as displayed below). Playlist Digital Installer automatically creates some
shortcuts, but you can create shortcuts to your own folders.

Once this is done, the folder is properly Shared over the network.

Running Playlist Digital over the network

It is not necessary to install Playlist Digital on other workstations of the LAN network. Just create
a shortcut of the file Playlist.exe on the desktop of each computer. Use the Copy and Paste
Shortcut command or the Send To: Desktop (Create Shortcut) command.

Running Playlist Digital for the first time

Create Operators (Users)

When you run Playlist Digital for the first time, a screen will automatically open, where at least one
operator should be created. On this screen you will find a field for registering the name for the
operator, a password, and a checkbox to select whether the operator will have the privileges of
system administrator. The Password is not mandatory. If entered, the operator can only be
selected on Playlist Digital after entering its password. The "Administrator" checkbox is also not
required, but it is necessary to have at least one operator who is an Administrator. The
Administrator operator will have access to Playlist Digital settings, and can later create other
operators and set permissions for them.

Below, there is an illustrative image of the Users creation screen when running Playlist Digital for
the first time:

Entering the station’s data

When running Playlist Digital for the first time, it will be necessary to enter a valid license number
and later register the station’s data.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 12 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

This information is necessary for some features of the software to work properly. If any of the data
has not been informed: License (number entered on the identification label of the "Software
License Agreement"), Station’s name, City, Contact, Telephone and E-mail the dialog box will
continue to appear whenever the program starts.

If you have already filled in the data, this dialog

box will not appear again. To correct the
registered data, with an administrator user of
Playlist Digital, open the menu "Tools>>Options",
click on the License tab and change the necessary
info.

Operating Playlist Digital

Running Playlist Digital
When opening the software, Playlist Digital will open with the "No operator" mode by default. This
mode is used for occasions where the Playlist Digital will work automatically. Therefore, when
opening Playlist Digital, an operator must be selected.

To select or switch an operator, click the down arrow on the right

side of the Open button and select the operator you want.

When Playlist Digital is closed, if opened within ten minutes, the

operator used the moment the program was closed will be
automatically loaded, after ten minutes the Playlist Digital will run in
"No operator" mode.

Editing the Programming Grid

There are two ways to edit or manual scheduling on Playlist Digital.

1– In the Folders tab, open the music folder, sweepers, track, or text you want; click on the chosen
insertion and drag to the programming grid.

Note that every file you manually insert in the grid will display an M in blue color,
indicating that this insertion was added manually. (In this case, the file "Madonna – Sorry" was
manually added to the grid)

When an insertion is moved manually after it has been automatically programmed, a red
M is displayed.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 14 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

A red line appears

between each insertion
strip that the mouse
passes through, if you
release the click when
a line is appearing, the
insertion will be placed
there.

2 – Select the point you

want to insert the audio, press "Insert". On the floating screen that opens, locate the audio in the
folders and press "Enter".

Some icons are special and do not give the option to choose the content. By clicking on these
icons, the icon itself is added in the program.

Insertions a Pause in programming. Upon reaching this insertion, the schedule will be
paralyzed.

If you press the "Pass" button or spacebar the programming will continue.

By clicking this icon, the time (previously recorded) will be played.

Folder icons can also be dragged into programming. In this case, a file from the folder will be
added randomly.

Texts
When you program text, you can add a track together. To do this, first drag the text to the desired

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 15 from 191

block, and then drag the track over the programmed text. The text insertion range will be a
different color.

See when a track is

dragged over a text,
the insertion track is
left with a stippled
appearance, when you
release.

As soon as the track "ON AIR" arrives on the text, it will open on the screen and the track will be
playing in loop until the intervention of the operator.

By clicking the button, typing "Enter" or " Spacebar" the programming will continue.

Moving Content
There are also two ways to move contents’ positions:

1 - Select the desired insertion and click the up or down arrows of the Playlist Digital toolbar. See
an example in the images below:

A red line will appear between each insertion strip through which the mouse passes, if you release
the click when a line is appearing, the insertion will stay at that point.

AFTER

Note that the song "Capital Inicial - Fátima" was moved a few positions above. Now she finds
herself after the song "Katy Perry – Part Of Me."

Removing an insertion
You can also remove an insertion from the programming grid. There are three ways to do this:

1 – Click on the insertion you want to remove from the program and click the red X of the Playlist
Digital toolbar. See an example below:

2 – Right-click the insertion and select the remove option, see an example below:

3 – Select the insertion you want to remove from the program and press "Delete".

Pre-listening (CUE)

You can listen to music, sweepers or any other audio, even with the programming on the air.
That's because Playlist Digital can use multiple audio cards simultaneously. You hear multiple
files much faster.

To set up pre-listening you will need a sound card with more than one channel or a minimum of
two sound cards or audio interfaces.

On Playlist Digital, go to Tools >> Options >> Settings >> Outputs, in the pre-listening title just
select the audio interface or channel of audio interface to play the pre-listening.

To CUE an audio, select the audio you want and click the PLAY button on the CUE bar:

Configuration and Usage Guide

Customizing your desktop

You can move work panels and toolbars, and you can create an appropriate work environment for
each operator.

Moving work panels

The flexibility of the panels allows you to 'detach', 'hold', 'move', 'group', 'close' and 'hide' panels to
create a more comfortable workspace.

See below an explanation about moving Playlist Digital work panels.

The panels in the figure above are grouped together.

1. To move a panel group, drag this move handle to the new location.

2. To select a panel, just click on the desired tab. To move a dashboard from a panel group,
drag its tab to the new location.

3. To hide the panels, just click on the "Auto hide" pin.

4. To close a panel, select the one you want, and then click the close button.

Moving a dashboard
A panel is similar to a toolbar, in that you can move it on the screen, snap it (anchored: pinned to
the top, bottom, or side of the window. You can anchor a dashboard, toolbox, menu bar, and
toolbars.) horizontally or vertically, or leave it floating on the screen.

To move a panel, drag its tab if it is grouped with other panels. If you drag the panel or panel group

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 44 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

to the edge of the program window, the panels are docked. You can dock horizontally (at the top
or bottom of the program window, or in another panel already docked or floating on the screen) or
vertically (on the right or left side of the program window). To move the panel, without the docking
border appearing, simply press the "CTRL" or "ALT" key.

To make it easier to move the panels, enable the Docking Guides option on the Tools menu.

To change the order of view of the grouped panels, you must click the tab of the panel that you
want, and then drag it to the right or left. For Separator tabs, up or down.

To change the width of a vertically docked panel or the height of a horizontally docked panel,
move the pointer over the outer edge until it changes to a double-headed arrow, and then drag the
edge of the panel until it reaches the new size.

Detaching a panel and leaving it floating

You can untie a panel by double-clicking its tab if it is grouped with other panels. So the panel will
be floating on the screen, like the window below. To detach all panels from a panel group, double-
click a move handle for that group.

1- To move a floating panel, drag the title bar to the new location. If you drag the panel to the
edge of the program window, it will dock. You can dock a panel horizontally (at the top or
bottom of the program window, or in another panel already docked or floating on the
screen) or vertically (on the right or left side of the program window). To move the panel,
without the docking border appearing, simply press the Ctrl or Alt key. To hold the panel
back in its place, just double-click on its title bar.

2- When you enable the "Auto hide" button, the contents of the panel will no longer be
displayed when you move the mouse to another panel. When you hover over the title bar of
the panel, the contents of the panel will be displayed.

3- To close a floating panel, just click the close button.

To change the height and width of a floating panel, move the pointer over any border until it
changes to a double-headed arrow, and then drag the edge of the panel until it reaches the size
that you want.

To mount the screen below it was necessary to leave the Folders panel floating. The Properties
panel has been dragged through its tab to the right side of the Folders panel until the docking
border appears. The Live Texts, Today and Buttons, panels have been dragged separately to the
top of the Folders panel until the docking border appears.

1. Top edge of the Folders panel.

2. Top edge of the Properties panel.

3. Guides to the other panels.

4. Close button. Closes the selected panel.

5. Closes the panel grouping.

6. Bar to move the grouping of panels. When you double-click this bar, the floating panels

The order of mounting the window above can be done in a different way:

• Leave the panel today floating, drag the other panels separately, except Properties, to the
top of the floating panel until the docking border appears. Then drag the Properties panel
to the right side of the grouped panels until the docking border appears.

This grouping of floating panels can be moved to another monitor, resized, and even docked to
other floating panels, or attached to the screen.

Moving a toolbar
A toolbar can be moved, snapped horizontally or vertically, or left floating on the screen.

Drag the move handle of a Docked toolbar or the title bar of a floating toolbar to the new location.

Anchored toolbar: A toolbar attached to a border of the “program window." When you drag a
toolbar below the program’s title bar or from the left, right, or bottom edge of the "program window”
the toolbar snaps to a location on the edge of the "Program Window".

Floating toolbar: A toolbar that is not attached to the edge of the "program
window". You can change the shape of some floating toolbars.

NOTE: If you drag the toolbar to the edge of the program window, it will turn into an anchored
toolbar. Moving an anchored toolbar can affect the location and size of the other toolbars on the
same line.

Generating a Programming

Management of commercial files

Before you start generating programming you need to know the following:

All commercials that will be broadcast by Playlist Digital, through automatic programming, must
be in the Commercial folder (Playlist\Commercials), all texts that will be read by the speaker,
through the Live Texts panel, must be in the Texts folder (Playlist\Texts).

To make it easier to manage the commercials, create some shortcuts on the Desktop of the
computer that will do the commercial programming:

"Commercials" pointing to 'Playlist\Commercials'

"Live texts" pointing to 'Playlist\texts'

"Maps" pointing to 'Playlist\Pgm\Maps'

* In order for the commercial to air, it needs:

• Be available for the Playlist Digital in the ' Commercials' folder ("Commercials on the air");
• Programmed on the map (direct programming or by some commercial script software);
• Registered.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 60 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Register command – Running Ligacao.exe

The Playlist Digital performs automatic programming (commercial and musical) by reading maps
generated by an external program or maps generated by Notepad. A map contains schedules and
codes for scheduled commercials. Example of a map generated by Notepad:

.................................................

6:00 VH, 55, 23, VH, 62, 12, VH, 42, HCC, HC

6:15 VH, 45, HC, 18, 03, HCC, HC

6:30 VH, 23, 62, 12, 42, 55, HCC, HC

6:45 VH, 62, 12, 42, 55, 23, HCC, HC

07:00 VH, 12, 42, 55, 23, 62, VHC, HC

7:15 VH, 13, 10, VH, 18, 58, HCC, HC

7:30 VH, 15, 17, VH, 45, 9, HCC, HC

7:45 VH, 62, 12, 42, 55, 23, HCC, HC

8:00 VH, 23, 62, 12, 42, 55, HCC, HC

... ......................................

At 8:00 Playlist Digital will play a "VH" sweeper, the commercial "23", followed by the commercials
"62", "12", "42", "55" and the Exact time sweeper "VHC" along with the pre-recorded voiceover of
the Exact time "HC".

VH, 23, 62, 12, 42, 55, VHC, HC are folder codes and files of commercials registered in the Playlist
Digital.

The codes of WAV, MP3, W M A , O G G , T K M , TXT, RTF, MP4, MOV, MPEG, AAC, AVI, OPUS,
FLAC, M4A files and shortcuts files are registered in the Playlist Digital through the register
command.

It is not necessary to register all files, only those that are used in automatic programming.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 61 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

To enable the register command, on the computer where the programming will be done: Using the
Network Environment, go to the Main Studio computer.

Go to the Playlist folder, then go to PGM and run the file (Ligacao.exe).

*IMPORTANT: You must run LIGACAO.EXE

which is in the PLAYLIST\PGM folder of
the Main Studio computer. Do not run it
from another location, as the program
uses the information from the current
folder to determine the location of the
data files.

Registering
Playlist Digital allows you to code files and shortcuts to facilitate communication with other
programs that generate the commercial and musical maps, or even for the assembly in the
notepad of these maps. To this operation of informing the code we give the name 'Register'. Its
use is simple, just go through Windows Explorer, in the folder of "Commercial" and right-click on
the desired file and choose the option "Register" (Register in Main Studio ).

As follows the example below.

In the next window enter the code in the Code field. Select Commercial from the down arrow next
to Code.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 62 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

The code entered may have up to 12 characters, being

allowed letters, numbers and symbols. The system will
ignore the leading zeros and convert the lowercase letters
to uppercase.

You can specify the validity of a commercial's

registration. If a code is outside the validity period it will
not be recognized by the Playlist Digital and,
consequently, will not be displayed. You can also use this option to replace a commercial without
the need for changes in the commercial map, simply by registering the current commercial and
filling in the final validity (Until:) with the desired date and time. Then register the new commercial
and fill in the initial validity (From:) with the date and time immediately after.

Codes can be registered f o r c o m m e r c i a l s , s o n g s , s w e e p e r s a n d s h o r t c u t s . There can

be songs and commercials with the same code, because we have separate maps for each of the
blocks (commercial and musical). However, sweepers and shortcuts must have a unique code not
usable by commercials or songs.

All commercials that will be played on 'Playlist Digital', must be

in the Commercial folder (Playlist\Commercials).

All texts that will be displayed on ‘Playlist Digital', must be in the

Text folder (Playlist\Texts).'

WAV, MP3, W M A , O G G , T K M , TXT, RTF, MP4, MOV, MPEG, AAC, AVI, OPUS, FLAC, M4A and
shortcuts from the Shortcuts folder (Playlist\Pgm\Shortcuts) files can be registered. WAV and
MP3 files will be displayed normally.

TXT and RTF files can be registered by associating a Pause or trail with them for reading.

MP4, MOV, MPEG and AVI video files will ignore mixing points if Camera Controller is in use. For
the use of these files, it is necessary that they are prepared in advance, making the necessary cuts
before using them in the software.

In the case of shortcuts, the software will choose a file randomly from the registered shortcut
(except for the Exact time and Temperature shortcuts).

Configuration and Usage Guide

Registering a folder

To register a folder on Playlist Digital, we will use the Config Manager application. Just select a folder
click on a folder and in the Properties area of the folder selects, the register field will contain the folder
code.

You can also change the code by simply clicking on the register field, write a new code, click save and
restart the Playlist Digital.

When you add a new folder, Config Manager assigns an

automatic code related to the folder name

Generating Commercial maps through Notepad

Playlist Digital works with TXT files that can be manually edited or generated from other
Commercial and artistic programs. With this option you have a greater control of what is being
aired on the station, than in a schedule made manually.

Generating maps

The Playlist Digital is pre-configured through the Playlist.ini file (it is in the Playlist\Pgm folder) to
read the commercial block as follows:

[COMMERCIAL]

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 64 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

FORMAT=AUTO

For more information about the Playlist.ini configuration file, see

the Advanced Features portion of this manual, the Playlist.ini
topic.

This setting will make the Playlist Digital search for the Commercial Map as follows:

• File with the nomenclature for the day of the year: Mapadd-mm-yyyyy (Mapa31-12-2023).
• File with the nomenclature for the day of the month: Mapadd (Map31)
• File with the nomenclature referring to the day of the week in question: (Mon, Tue, ..., Sat
Sun).
If Playlist Digital does not find any of the previous files, it will look for the Map.txt file, also in the
Playlist\Pgm\Maps folder.

Playlist Digital installs the Mapa.txt in the Maps folder (Playlist\Pgm\Maps). This file follows a
special formatting, such as the figure below, which should not be changed, the times are ordered
sequentially and positioned on top of each other. This timetable can be changed to suit your radio
schedules.

* We recommend that for each commercial block, there should be a music block. Table of
commercial block timetables:

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 65 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Editing the Map.txt

You can create an automatic schedule for the commercial block, through Map.txt
(Playlist\Pgm\Maps).

The programming should be assembled as follows: The time of the block + space + code of the
first commercial of the block + comma"," + space + code of the second commercial of the block +
comma," + space + code of the third commercial of the block + comma"," + space + ...

* Always between one code and another there should be a comma separating them. The space
after the comma is not really necessary, but we recommend its use because it improves the
reading of the map.

Example of an excerpt from commercial programming on Map.txt.

Map.txt

Scheduled trading block

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 66 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

All the files in the above block are registered.

00:00 vhc, cha, 1, DAQUI, MUS1-R, VHP, 2

The VH hora certa file is registered with the vhc code as Sweeper and is in the Sweepers folder
(Playlist\Sweepers).

The Call – New Playlist file is in the Calls folder (playlist\Calls) that is registered with the cha
code.

The Real Savings Account file is registered with code 1 as Commercial and is in the Commercial
folder (Playlist\Commercials).

The VH- file you will hear in a little while is registered with the code HERE as Sweeper and is in
the Sweepers folder (Playlist\Sweepers).

The OMC – How Bizarre file (Chorus) is registered with the code MUS1-R as Music and is in the
POP folder (Playlist\Songs\POP).

In this case it is important to note some items:

1 The registered file is a song and must be registered as such. Its code is MUS1.

2 The –R (in the MAPA file.txt) will cause the Playlist Digital to program the chorus of this song.

3 The chorus of the song must have been previously defined, so that the Playlist Digital schedules
it correctly. To learn more about creating a chorus visit the Mark Chorus section of this manual.

4 The songs must be programmed in the musical blocks. In the above case, the programming of
the song's chorus was performed.

The VH Passage – Playlist – Seria Effect file is registered with the VHP code as Sweeper and is
in the Passage Sweepers folder (Playlist\Passage Sweepers).

The Playlist Logger file is registered with code 2, associated with a track, as Commercial and is in
the Texts folder (Playlist\Texts).

To schedule a new commercial: You must Register the commercial;

To register a commercial: Go to the Commercials folder (Playlist\Commercials).

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 67 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Right-click and select the Register (or Register in Main Studio) option. In the next window enter
the code in the Code field. Select Commercial from the down arrow next to Code.

And program the code on the business map that the Playlist Digital is reading (in our case,
Map.txt)

To program on the map

Go to the Maps folder (Playlist\Pgm\Maps). Open the Map.txt file.

And schedule the Commercial Code at the desired time.

Example: Code 49, programmed at the penultimate position of the block of 14:30.

14:30 7, 8, 1, 5, 6, 2, 49, 9

Red X on the block

A commercial will be displayed if it meets the requirements:

1 Is programmed on the Map

2 Is recorded

3 Is registered

4 Is in the Commercial folder.

*If any of the requirements is not met it will prevent the commercial from airing.

A Red X followed by a code

It means that a code on the map has not been registered or the record is out of validity. You must
register the corresponding commercial or remove the commercial on the map if no commercial

will occupy the scheduled number.

In the figure below the Playlist Digital shows with an X followed by a number (Code).

A Red X followed by a name

See in the figure below another case of red X in the 13:30 block followed by a name.

Analyzing it, you will notice, that the red X followed by the name of the commercial "Caderneta
Real de Poupança. mp3" on Playlist Digital is programmed on the map, it is registered, but the
commercial is not in the Commercial folder. Find it and place it in the folder. Other possibilities
would be that the name of the commercial has been modified or the commercial has been
removed, in the latter case the commercial must be registered again.

To replace the record

Go to the Commercial folder (Playlist\Commercials). Right-click and select the Register (or
Register in Mains Studio) option.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 69 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

In the next window enter the code in the Code field. Select Commercial from the down arrow next
to Code.

If when you click OK, a Commercial window appears with the code (code entered). Click Replace
to replace the commercial with that code.

Caster
For the Playlist Digital to make a rotation of trades, just register them with the same code, then
when programming this code on the map, the Playlist Digital will choose from all the audios with
the same programmed code, a commercial, and will insert it into the programming.

Testimonial

The Playlist Digital only accepts text files of type TXT and RTF. And the texts should be saved in
the Texts folder (Playlist\Texts).

The programming of texts on Playlist Digital is very similar to the programming of commercials,
first the text must be registered, then open the desired map file and enter the code that the text
was registered at the desired time. In the case of texts, the operator can register a text already
with a track linked to the text, so when the text is displayed in the Playlist Digital automatically a
track will be served as a background for the text to be read.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 70 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Generating a random automatic programming for the musical

block

Playlist Digital installs Grade.txt in the Grids folder (Playlist\Pgm\Grades). This file follows a
special formatting, which should not be changed, the times are ordered sequentially and
positioned on top of each other. This timetable can be changed to suit your radio schedules.

The programming should be assembled as follows: The time of the block + space + code of a
folder +"," + space + code of a folder +"," + space + code of a folder +"," + space + code of a folder...

Always between one code and another there should be a comma separating them. The space after
the comma is not really necessary, but we recommend its use because it improves the reading of
the map and grid.

For each shortcut, stored in the Playlist Digital shortcuts folder "C:\Playlist\Pgm\Shortcuts", a
code must be created that is at the discretion of the user. This code should be placed in the grid
file obeying the criteria that were described in the paragraph above. Below is an example of the
grid.txt file:

Scheduled grid

In the musical block of 13h05min, the Playlist Digital

will play a song from the folder "Romantics", one
from the folder "Brasileiríssimas", a Sweeper, one
from the folder "Flashback", one from the folder
"Brasileiríssimas", a Sweeper and a song from the
folder "Flashback".

Configuration and Usage Guide

Exact time
The Exact time recorded, arose from the need to have a more realistic automation possible, that is,
when the announcer was not present it was impossible to speak the Exact time to the listener, the
recorded Exact time came to convey the feeling that the announcer was really present speaking
the time.

Playlist Digital displays pre-recorded right-time voiceovers, which will be selected based on the
time of the computer's internal clock.

When Playlist Digital finds a Exact time insertion in the schedule, it follows the following steps: At
the exact moment of playing, the Playlist Digital looks in the Exact time folder, indicated by the
shortcut, for a file representing the current time in HHMM.wav or HHMM.Mp3 format and, if it finds
it, it will be executed. If Playlist Digital does not find the exact file, it will search for the file
immediately following, if it does not find it, it will search for the previous file. If you still can't find it
and it’s a file after 1:00 p.m., it will repeat the same process with 12 hours less.

See the example below:

For the hour 19h38min

• First look for the 1938.wav or 1938.Mp3 file;
• If unavailable, it will search the archives 1939, 1937;
• If unavailable, it will look for the files 0738, 0739 and 0737;

If none of them is found the Playlist Digital will simply continue the playing by moving to the next
audio.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 74 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Recording the Exact time

There are two ways to record the audios at the Exact time, the most used and recommended
should have a specific nomenclature, for example:

At midnight the Playlist Digital will search the Exact time folder, which can be anywhere on your
hard drive, for a file with the name 0000.mp3 or (0000.wav), without parentheses, at midnight o
one by the file 0001.mp3 or (0001.wav) and so until twenty-three hours and fifty-nine minutes
2359.mp3 or (2359.wav). This way the announcer will record an audio for every minute, from
00h00min hours to 23 hours and 59 minutes. Below is an illustrative image of the Exact time folder
of the Playlist Digital with some recorded audios, note that a file was recorded for every minute, as
described above:

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 75 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Concatenated Exact time

Another way to work with Exact time files is to separate the files into full hours, minutes, and
hours.

The files recorded must comply with the following nomenclature:

1 - 0000.mp3 (or .wav) to 2300.mp3 (or .wav) to represent the full time.

2 - H00.mp3 (or .wav) to H23.mp3 (or .wav) to represent the hour.

3 - M01.mp3 (or .wav) to M59.mp3 (or .wav) to represent the minutes.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 76 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

By programming the concatenated Exact time, the Playlist Digital will make the choice of audios
according to the time of the computer, correctly playing the Exact time.

After the audios are recorded with one of the correct nomenclatures, as described above, Locate
the folder in Config Manager with the type Exact time.

Right-time audios can be programmed after a sweeper that announces the Exact time, or they can
be stamped over any recorded audio at any point. Applying the stamp does not change the original
audio, only creating a reference link between the stamped audio and the stamp. In this way, the file
is preserved in its original form, without reprocessing and without loss of quality.

Using the Exact time as a Stamp

To stamp the Exact time on a particular audio, follow the steps described below:

1 - Right-click on the audio that will receive the Exact time stamp, and then click on the "Markers
editor" option, as in the image below:

2 - After accessing the Audio Markers, right-click on the desired point to stamp the Exact time,
click on the "Mark" option, then click on the "Stamp" option and finally click on "Exact time".

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 77 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

After this process, the waveform of the audio will look as follows:

3 - Once stamped, just click the "Save" button so that the audio is stamped with the Exact time
file.

Advanced Features

Configuring reading of the Maps – Playlist.ini

The Playlist.ini is a Playlist Digital configuration file, it is in the "Playlist\Pgm" folder. Through this
file the Playlist Digital will be configured to read the maps and grids in different ways.

The Playlist Digital can be configured to read Maps and Grids with different names for each day of
the week or for each day of the month.

When the maps are edited manually you can use a fixed map for all days (as already pre-
configured) or a map for each day of the week – usually necessary when the schedule on
weekends is different from other days.

The configuration is done in the Playlist .ini file, which is in the Playlist\PGM folder.

AUTO Format

FORMATO=AUTO

This setting will make the Playlist Digital search for the Commercial Map as follows:

• File with the nomenclature for the day of the year: Mapadd-mm-yyyy (Mapa31-12-2014).
• File with the nomenclature for the day of the month: Mapadd (Mapa31)
• File with the nomenclature referring to the day of the week in question: Mon, Tue, ..., Sat,
Sun.
If Playlist Digital does not find any of these files, it will look for the Mapa.txt file, also in the
Playlist\Pgm\Maps folder.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 79 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

[BLOCO MUSICAL]
FORMAT=AUTO

This setting will make Playlist Digital search for the Music Grid as follows:

• File with the nomenclature for the day of the year: dd-mm-yyyyy (31-12-2014).
• File with the nomenclature for the day of the month: Gradedd (Grade31).

• File with the nomenclature referring to the day of the week in question: Mon, Tue, ..., Sat,
Sun.

If Playlist Digital does not find any of these files, it will search for the Grade.txt file in the
Playlist\Pgm\Grades folder.

FORMATO=TXT1

Indicates to the Playlist Digital that the formatting of the text file ".txt" that it will have to read is a
TXT1 format. The times of this file follow a special formatting that should not be changed, the
times are ordered sequentially and positioned on top of each other. You can enter different times
by using the same formatting structure.

The breaks can comprise any time between 00h00min and 23h59min and must be in order.

FILE=GRADES\GRADE.TXT

This line indicates to the Playlist Digital where it should look for the file that informs the times of
the blocks, in the PGM folder.

In the FILE=GRADES\GRADE example.TXT, Playlist Digital will read the times in the GRADE.TXT
file, which is in the "Playlist\Pgm\Grades" folder.

Playlist variables.ini

As explained earlier, in PLAYLIST. INI 'Configuration Settings', the original configuration looks for
the full date files in the MAPS folders 'Playlist\Pgm\MAPAS' and GRIDS 'Playlist\Pgm\GRADES.
You can freely change these settings in Playlist.ini (Playlist\Pgm). As part of the file name, you
can use some variables to specify the day, month, year, day of the week, etc. Here are some
examples:

• %d – will be replaced by day in month in the file name

• %m – will be replaced by the month

• %Y – 4-digit year

• %y – 2-digit year

• %a – represents the name of the day of the week (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun)

• %w – represents the number of the day of the week (Sun=0, Mon=1, etc.)

*The variable must be specified with a lowercase letter.

As an example, on 12/31/2023, Playlist Digital will search for the archives:

[BLOCO COMERCIAL]
FORMATO=TXT1
ARQUIVO=Mapas\Mapa%d.txt

Playlist Digital will search for the commercial blocks from the MAPA31 file.txt in the
PLAYLIST\PGM\MAPAS folder.

• 1.txt = Monday
• 2.txt = Tuesday
• 3.txt = Wednesday
• 4.txt = Thursday
• 5.txt = Friday
• 6.txt = Saturday
• 7.txt = Sunday

[BLOCO COMERCIAL]
FORMATO=AUTO

Playlist Digital will search for the commercial blocks from the file Mapa31-12-2023.txt in the
PLAYLIST\PGM\MAPAS folder. If unavailable Playlist Digital looks for Mapa31.txt file. If

Configuration and Usage Guide

unavailable, Playlist Digital will look for the SUN.txt or 7.txt file. If Playlist Digital does not find any
of these files, it will search for the MAPA.txt in the PLAYLIST\PGM\MAPAS folder.

[BLOCO MUSICAL]
FORMATO=AUTO

Playlist Digital will search, for the musical blocks from the file 31-12-2023.txt in the
PLAYLIST\PGM\GRADES folder. If unavailable, the Playlist Digital will search for the Grade31.txt
file. If unavailable, Playlist Digital will look for the SUN.txt file. If Playlist Digital does not find any of
these files, it will look for the Grade.txt file in the PLAYLIST\PGM\GRADES folder. If it doesn’t find it,
it will look for GRADE.txt in the PLAYLIST\PGM\MAPAS folder.

Example of programming generated through the Mapa.txt and grade.txt

The file format 'TXT1' is the simplest and can be edited by "Notepad" or "WordPad", but other
formats can be used (DBF or other text file standards). We will explain below how to program a
Mapa and a Grade in the format 'TXT1'. Here's more about how to make a schedule in
Programming:

Consider Playlist.ini:

[BLOCO COMERCIAL]
FORMATO=TXT1
ARQUIVO=MAPAS\Mapa.txt

[BLOCO MUSICAL]
FORMATO=TXT1
ARQUIVO=GRADES\Grade.txt

Example of a Commercial map from 06:00 to 07:00 (Mapa.txt which is in the 'Playlist\PGM\Mapas'
folder according to Playlist.ini):

6:00 VH, 55, 23, VH, 62, 12, VH, 42, HCC, HC
6:15 VH, 45, HC, 18, 03, HCC, HC
6:30 VH, 23, 62, 12, 42, 55, HCC, HC
6:45 VH, 62, 12, 42, 55, 23, HCC, HC
07:00 VH, 12, 42, 55, 23, 62, VHC, HC

In the commercial block of 06:00hs the Playlist Digital will play a sweeper, which will be chosen

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 83 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

randomly, then two commercials with codes 55 and 23, again another sweeper, two more
commercials 62 and 12, plus a sweeper, and the last commercial of block 42 followed by a
sweeper file ‘Exact time Sweeper' recorded with the VHC code and the Exact time, according to the
computer clock, to finish.

Example of a Music Grid from 06:00 to 08:00 (Grade.txt which is in the 'Playlist\PGM\Grades'
folder according to Playlist.ini):

06:00 VH, NAC, VHC, HC, INTER, VH, FB

06:15 VH, INTER, VHC, HC, FB, VH, INTER
06:30 VH, FB, VHC, HC, NAC, VH, INTER
6:45 VH, NAC, VHC, HC, INTER, VH, FB
07:00 VH, INTER, VHC, HC, FB, VH, INTER
07:15
07:30
7:45 VH, 1, HCV, HC, 2, VH, 3
08:00 VH, 4, VHC, HC, 5, VH, 6

The Playlist Digital will play in the musical block of '06:00' a sweeper, chosen randomly, a song
from the shortcut of the national music folder that is registered with the code NAC, then the
sweeper of Exact time and the Exact time, a song chosen randomly from the shortcut of the folder
of international songs that has the code INTER, right after a randomly chosen sweeper and ending
with a randomly chosen song from the shortcut of the Flashback-Style music folder that is
registered with the FB code. In the block of '07:45' and '08:00', the Playlist Digital will display for
codes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 the music files that are registered with the respective codes.

Codes can be registered for commercials, songs, Sweepers and

shortcuts. There can be songs and commercials with the same
code, as we have separate maps for each of the blocks.
Sweepers and shortcuts must have a unique code not usable by
commercials or songs.

The format of the Map and Grid is simple. A block (commercial or musical) for each line with the

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 84 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

codes separated by a comma.

We recommend that for each commercial block there is a musical. If you do not want to specify a
file for music programming, Playlist Digital will automatically use the settings of the commercial
block, generating an empty music block for each commercial block.

If you set up the music programming, remember to leave blank the blocks that you want to include
the songs manually during programming.

Example:

07:15
07:30

The blocks of '07:15' and '07:30' were left blank for the "Operator" to manually assemble the
blocks.

Recorded Voice overs

The Playlist Digital has a different behavior for the recorded voiceovers. It can automatically
include recorded voiceovers at the beginning and end of musical blocks. And for all voiceovers,
automatic or pre-programmed, he can apply a differentiated mix, which will be explained below.

Automatic voiceovers at the beginning and end of musical blocks

To automatically include locutions at the beginning and end of the musical blocks, simply save the
recordings in the Locutions folder (Playlist\Locucoes) with the nomenclature below:

DDMMHHMMa.wav (or mp3) to open the block.

DDMMHHMM.wav (or mp3) to close.

Note that the difference between them is only in the 'a' appended at the end of the file that opens
the block.

The Playlist Digital will replace 'DD' with the day, 'MM' with the month, 'HH' with the block time and
'MM' with the minutes. Example:

In the musical block of 12:17 of the day 03/12/2014 the Playlist Digital will look for the file
03121217a.wav (or mp3) and will include as the first insertion, opening the block and the file
03121217.wav (or mp3) as last insertion, closing the block.

Folders of recorded voiceovers

In addition to the automatic locutions that the Playlist Digital searches within the Locuções folder
(Playlist\Locuções), you can have other locution folders configured in the Playlist Digital, which
can be programmed at various points of the program. To do this, simply create a shortcut from

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 109 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

your voiceover folder in the "Playlist\PGM\ Shortcuts" folder. See how to configure folders in the
topic by configuring Work folders. For the locutions to work correctly, it is necessary that the
shortcut that you create has the L parameter. See about shortcut parameters in the Shortcut
parameters topic.

Mixing for voiceovers

The Playlist Digital has a special behavior in relation to the mixing for the voiceovers. In
conjunction with the introduction marker, it is possible to obtain excellent passages with recorded
locutions. The voiceover marker also directs the announcer not to speak on top of the singer's
voice.

When there is a locution before a song, that locution adjusts its mix with the song, to end exactly
at the end point of introduction, applying a fade over the introduction of the song, while it is
running.

When there is a locution after a song, this locution begins at the initial point of locution, marked at
the end of the song, also applying a fade during its execution.

See below the illustrative image of a mix between songs and voiceovers.

For this mix to work it is necessary to use the end of

introduction and beginning marks.

Markers

The automatic markers system of the Playlist Digital allows you to include marks at the beginning
and end of the file, thus eliminating unwanted excerpts, such as: silences, applause and others; it
also makes it possible to mark sample excerpts (chorus) and the ideal point of mixing each audio,

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 110 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

leaving the file intact. In addition, it is also possible to mark the introduction of a song. This will
allow the announcer to talk about the introductions of the songs with ease and precision. These
tags are placed by the user and can be edited at any time.

The Playlist Digital, unlike previous versions, creates the bookmark files automatically and does
not need to run any other program. These bookmark files are called PKInfo, inside each audio
folder is created a folder called PKInfo containing the ".pk" files with the necessary information of
each audio for the Markers.

To open the tagging screen for a song in Playlist Digital, select the folder you want, right-click on
the file you want, and select the Markers option.

After selecting the Markers option, the program will open a window displaying a graphic with the
waveform of the audio and the tools available to perform the desired markups.

In addition to the mix of input and output of the audio with the markers you can include a mark for
reference of the end of the introduction of the song, can be included comments by the speaker,
having a full control of the time of introduction of the song that is being displayed on the air.

Introductory Marker - Using a voiceover at the beginning of the audio

For a voiceover to start with the introduction of a particular song, that song must be marked with
the "End of Introduction" marker.

Follow these steps:

1- Right-click on the desired song, then click on the "Markers" option.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 111 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

2- Once the Markers screen is opened, right-click on the point of the song where the end of the
introduction is, click on "Bookmark" and choose the "Introduction" option. Note that you can listen
to the snippets of the song using the Play, Stop buttons, which are on the toolbar of the Markers
screen. Below is an illustrative image:

3- With the markup already set, save and close the Markers screen. The audio will appear with the
following symbol:

4- Now you must manually program the audio of the voiceover a position prior to the previously
marked song. See more about voiceovers in the topic Recorded Locutions.

Locution Start Marker - Using a voiceover at the end of the audio

To mark a locution at the end of a song, do the same procedure mentioned above, but you will not
need to mark the end of the introduction but the beginning of the voiceover. That way when the
music reaches the point marked as the beginning of the locution, a fade will be applied to the
music and the audio of the locution will begin to play on the music. Below is an image of the

Save - Saves the changes made to the bookmark.

Restore - Recalculates the positions of the Markers, going back to the last valid
configuration.

Navigation bar - Navigation in the audio file,

such as in Sound Forge. You can use the
keyboard too (Spacebar, Page Up, Page Down, Home, End).

Marks the end of the introduction - This mark will allow the announcer to talk about the
introductions of the songs with ease and precision. The Playlist Digital will present the
duration of the introduction on a display in the display panel. Display "No AR" that changes to
green color in the intro of the song, to the color yellow seconds before the introduction ends and
to red color when the audio is in the air. This marker is also used for mixing the locutions, see
more about locutions in the topic Recorded Locutions.

Marks the starting point of the audio - Playlist Digital will always start the file from that
point, as if the part before it did not exist. The duration of the audio file presented by
Playlist Digital will be changed considering this marker.

Marks the end point of Fade-In - The Playlist Digital makes a Fade-In from the beginning of
the audio to that point.

Mixing point on audio input - Use this marker only if the song has some scribble at the
beginning that might allow for a larger mix. See the explanation for the mixing point in the
output, below.

Next audio entry point - The next file will start at that point, or earlier if the next file has
the mixing point at the beginning enabled. Explaining: This point will coincide with the
beginning of the next song only if that next song does not have a mixing point at the beginning
activated. If the next song has a mixing point at the beginning enabled, the next song will start
even earlier, so that the two markers coincide.

Marks the starting point of Fade-Out - The Playlist Digital makes a Fade-out from this
point to the end of the audio file.

It marks the end of the chorus.

Annotation mark - allows you to type a comment in the audio and every time it is being
displayed the comment is displayed in the display panel, in the chosen audio excerpt.

Zooms in or out of the audio wave.

Automatic Temperature Locutions

The Playlist Digital can be configured to display automatic temperature locutions. To configure
the temperature reading, it is necessary to use an external sensor.

Recorded temperature locutions

Recordings must be in GGD.mp3 (wav) and -GGD.mp3(wav) format for negative degrees. For
example, 23 degrees and 5 tenths: 235.Mp3. The Playlist Digital will approximate up to 5 tenths of
difference, plus or minus. The files can then be recorded from degree to degree, or from half to
half degree, or all tenths. Temperature files can also be in GG format. D.wav or GG.D. Mp3.
Temperature 21 degrees and a half could be represented in file 21.5.wav or 21.5.mp3. When there
are no tenths, the temperature should be represented with zero tenths: 21 degrees: 21.0. Mp3,
210.Mp3, 21.0.wav, 210.wav.

Save these files to a specific folder, create a shortcut to Playlist Digital, using the TEMP shortcut
parameter. See how to configure shortcut for the Playlist Digital and about shortcut parameters in
the topics configuring the folders and Parameters of shortcuts.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 118 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

External temperature sensor

To capture the external temperature of the environment and the HTU-300 / HTU-310 temperature
sensor is recommended, both can be found on the manufacturer's website. When installing
Playlist Digital, the HTU-300 sensor software is automatically installed in the "Playlist\PGM"
folder.

For the Playlist Digital to display the temperature voiceover audios according to the temperature
captured by the sensor, you must first create a folder with the temperature audios and a shortcut
to it in the folder Playlist\PGM\Shortcuts. The shortcut must have the TEMP parameter. To learn
more about temperature locutions, see the Automatic Temperature Locutions section of this
manual.

After the folder is created, the temperature sensor is connected to the Main Studio computer at
the port specified by the sensor manufacturer.

After the sensor is turned on on the computer, go to the "Playlist\PGM" folder and open the
HTU300 file.exe, on the HTU-300 settings screen, check the serial port where the temperature
sensor is connected and in the "Locution Destination" field, enter the path of the folder where the
voiceover audios are saved and click "Save Parameters" to save the configuration.

In the HTU-300 sensor software is displayed the temperature and humidity of the air as in the
image below:

Radio Station’s network

Playlist Digital has the ability to operate on a network of broadcasters in the role of Network
Affiliate or Network Head, according to the need and settings. A Network Head
is responsible for generating content for Affiliates, who receive audio content generated by the
Network Head, locally displaying Commercial breaks, as well as local blocks and programs. The
software allows the sending of remote commands over the
network (TCP or UDP), via serial port (COM)*, via parallel port (LTP1)** and also via DTMF (tone
embedded in the audio file)

*The sending of triggering via parallel port, has as intended, the activation of relays in the
Device responsible for the sending. As most modern computers usually do not have this
feature, it is possible to use COM port triggering to send a serial command to an integrated
circuit device such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi. The COM port can also be used to send direct
commands to the other end, using the equipment (at the network head) and (at the network
affiliate) that enable the sending and receiving of the command.

**The receiving of fire via parallel port (LTP1), as well as the sending, is also intended to
interact with relays in the equipment responsible for receiving the shot. As stated before,
current equipment may not have such a port available for use. In this case, we recommend
the use of USB Joysticks, as will be described below

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 120 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

We describe each of these settings below, by type and at both ends of the system.

Network Head
For the use of the Playlist Digital in the network head and sending the trigger via satellite, we
recommend the making of a circuit using an ARDUINO device as the trigger generator. However, it
is also possible to make a cable for sending triggering via parallel port.

Arduino
For its confection, it is necessary.

Hardware

- 1 Arduino

-2 Relays for Short/Wrist Closure

Software

- Arduino IDE: https://www.arduino.cc/en/software

Mounting scheme

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 121 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Note: Playlist Digital only opens the connection to the device at the time of
triggering. Some cards such as Arduino UNO restart each time the
connection is initialized, which can make it impossible for the system to
function properly.

Such an automatic restart can be bypassed using a 10μF capacitor in GND

(Ground) and RESET.

Code to compile

With the Circuit mounted, on a computer with the Arduino IDE installed, connect the COM port
corresponding to the Arduino and compile the code below:

#include <SoftwareSerial.h>

const int pinoRX = 2; //DIGITAL PIN 2 (RX)

const int pinoTX = 3; //DIGITAL PIN 3 (TX)
const int pinoRelay1 = 11; //DIGITAL PIN USED BY RELAY
const int pinoRelay2 = 12; // DIGITAL PIN USED BY RELAY
char dadoSerialChar='A';

void setup() {
pinMode(pinoRelay1,OUTPUT);
pinMode(pinoRelay2,OUTPUT);
digitalWrite(pinoRelay1, HIGH);
digitalWrite(pinoRelay2, HIGH);
Serial.begin(9600); //Open the serial port and set to 9600bps
while (!Serial); // Arduino Leonardo
}

void loop(){
if (Serial.available()) {
dadoSerialChar = Serial.read();
if(dadoSerialChar == 'P' || dadoSerialChar == 'p'){
digitalWrite(pinoRelay1, LOW); //Turns on relay 1
Serial.println("Relay 1 turned on");
delay(500);
digitalWrite(pinoRelay1, HIGH); //Turns off relay 1
Serial.println("Relay 1 turned off");
}
if(dadoSerialChar == 'S' || dadoSerialChar == 's'){
digitalWrite(pinoRelay2, LOW); //Turns on relay 2
Serial.println("Relay 2 turned on");

Creating shortcuts

Before creating the PLAY and STOP commands, it is necessary to identify the COM port used by
Arduino on the Playlist Digital computer. To do so, open Windows Device Manager through the
Start menu and click Ports (COM and LPT). It will be displayed as in the example, where the door of
the Arduino is COM4.

With this information, access the Config Manager with the user system administrator shortcut of
type COMMAND and use the lines below:

PLAY command

C COM4: P

STOP command

C COM4: S

Remembering that COM4 should be replaced by the COM port used by Arduino, as verified in
Device Manager.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 123 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Parallel port
Used by network head broadcaster to transmit the PLAY and STOP commands.

In order for it to be possible for the computer of the network head to send commands to
the affiliate, it is necessary to make a circuit that will be connected to the parallel port of
the computer and to the satellite transmitter.

A command in the programming of the Playlist Digital in the network head can trigger any
of the 8 relays in the affiliate.

We use the data output pins to send PLAY and STOP. Pins D0-D7 – [2 to 9] are used for
sending commands. We can trigger 8 commands (relays) with the parallel port.

Commands
To create the command in the Playlist Digital, open ConfigManager with the system
administrator user and create a shortcut of type COMMAND.

The command is inserted into the Playlist Digital schedule as a common insertion, and
can be manually programmed or recorded to be programmed into maps.

In the Command line option of the shortcut enter 'C LPT1 n'. The n-value must be a
number between 1 and 255 and determines the drive of the relays in the affiliate receiver,
as shown in the example and table below:

In the example below the value 1 will be sent to the parallel port
LPT1.

Value/Rela 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
y 1 X
2 X
4 X
8 X
16 X
32 X
64 X

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 124 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

128 X
To simultaneously trigger more than one relay, the value used must be the sum of the
values of the relays that must be triggered. For example, to simultaneously trigger relays 7
and 8, the value used will be 192. To trigger all relays at the same time, the value will be
255:

Value/Rel 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
ay 192 X X
255 X X X X X X X X

Manufacture of the cable to send the shot (Circuit)

To be able to send the commands to the affiliate it will be necessary for your electronics
technician to develop a circuit that, connected to the parallel port of the computer of the
network head, is able to trigger local relays that, in turn, will be connected by another cable
to the satellite transmitter (uplink) to send the commands to the affiliate.

The signal from the computer will pass through the electronic device, taking the signal to
the relay, which will close a short and send the signal to the uplink connector, thus making
the shot.

The cable from this electronic device to the uplink may vary according to the model used.
The documentation of the equipment must be used for the correct activation of the
controls. Probably the connection will be similar to that used in the receiving equipment.

The relays are connected to the pairs of pins, as in the table below.

DTMF
The DTMF (Audible Tone) can be used for sending and receiving triggers only using the
audio coming from the programming. The audios with the tones must be generated and
can be incorporated into the Sweepers of the station, for example. The DTMF is composed
of the characters arranged in the table below

Hz 1209 1336 1477 1632

697 1 2 3 The

770 4 5 6 B

Configuration and Usage Guide

Stamp, these Sweepers must be programmed correctly at the beginning and at the end of
the blocks which will send this command to the affiliated stations.

The network head must make the DTMF PLAY and STOP Code available for affiliates to
perform the correct configuration.

Network (IP)
This type of shot can be used:

• On a local area network (LAN)

• In a virtual private network (VPN)

• Through the public IP

When the broadcaster opts for a Public IP, the mapping of the Playlist Digital data port (by
default 3030) must be carried out in the structure of the internet network of the affiliated
broadcaster, usually performed on the router by the responsible internet provider or
technician.

To send the shot, it is necessary that the network head is with your Playlist.INI configured with the
AFFILIATES section, as in the example below

[AFILIADAS]
AFILIADA = 192.168.0.3:3030

Where:

• AFILIADA - Network affiliate name

• 192.168.0.3 - Name of the machine (or IP) that will receive the shot

• 3030 - Data port to be used

In the example above, the data port 3030 was used. However, this can be modified and must
match the data port configured on the network affiliate.

Being properly configured the Playlist Digital of the stations, it is enough that the network head
programs the desired command. This will be sent to the network affiliate, starting or stopping your
schedule.

Network Affiliate
Remote triggering
This setting should be used regardless
of the type of network affiliate or to
control the Playlist Digital through the
audio console.

To configure Playlist Digital to accept

remote commands, go to the Tools menu>> Options >> Settings and find the Control from satellite
section.

The settings are:

Accepts remote command to local blocks - Allows the receipt of Play and Stop commands in local
blocks. By default, these commands are ignored in blocks that are not set to SAT.

Accepts remote command 'PLAY' – Defines that the PLAY command can be received in the
software.

Accepts remote command 'STOP' – Defines that the STOP command can be received by the
software.

If displayed, 'PLAY' skips to the next audio – With this option enabled, when you receive the PLAY
command and the software is running, the software moves to the next audio. With this, a FADE is
performed and the next audio is started.

Receiving the Play/Stop command

If your broadcaster is an affiliate, you must enable the
Network Affiliate option under
Tools>>Options>>Settings, in the Remote triggering
section.

The other options are:

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 128 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

If displaying local block, start next satellite block – If at the time of receiving the command 'PLAY',
a local block is being displayed, it is stopped with a FADE and the next SAT block is displayed.

Allow remote command only at the correct time – Ignores the 'PLAY' command if the positioned
block is outside the time slot (in minutes) set for the reception of the shot defined in "Minutes to
position the blocks and accept shot".

Automatically set the blocks as a starting block – Automatically positions blocks according to
clock and block time when software is stationary.

Minutes to position the blocks – Tolerance time to automatically position the blocks and receive
the 'PLAY' command when the software is stopped.

The tolerance time is accepted before and after, that is: If the block is 10:00 and the tolerance time
is set at 3 minutes, the trigger is accepted between 9:57 and 10:03

Satellite
In the affiliate, the trigger can be received by a Joystick (preferably) or using the Parallel Port or
Serial Port.

Joystick

In the network affiliate, the shot must be interpreted by a Joystick (Game Controller), which can be
mounted by your technician.

We recommend for assembly:

• 1 USB Joystick
• 1 Acrylic box that keeps it fixed and protected
• 1 DB25 connector to be connected to the Joystick

Before disassembling the joystick to mount the receiving equipment, we recommend that you
connect it to the computer to verify its correct functioning.

With your device connected, go to your computer's Control Panel and go to Devices and Printers.

Look for your Joystick (game controller) and right-click. Then go to the Game Controller Settings
option.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 129 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

A small window will open with the options and

information of the Game Controller. Select the Properties
option.

Acess the Test tab.

It will be possible to view the information and validate which of the buttons is pressed through a
red light that indicates its activation.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 130 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

Once tested and validated its operation, the assembly can be

carried out.

You will need to connect and weld the following DB25 connector
points on the Joystick:

• Connectors 1 and 14 must be welded to button 1

• Connectors 2 and 15 must be welded to button 2

After welding and testing, we recommend that the Joystick and

DB25 connector be fixed in the containment box to ensure the
durability of the reception circuit of the disparo.Com the Playlist
Digital configured as network affiliate and circuit connected to the
computer, the remote trigger is already received.

Parallel Port and Serial Port

It is also possible to receive the trigger using Parallel Port and Serial Port, replacing the use of the
Joystick.

In this case the Playlist Digital will receive from the station "network head" a pulse that will
come via satellite, this pulse will trigger or stop the programming of Playlist Digital
automatically.

The pulse is sent via satellite and, through a receiver that will be connected to the parallel
(or serial) port of the computer the Playlist Digital will receive this pulse, stopping or
starting the programming. If you stop programming, a line will be opened for the station to
display the audio coming from your "network head". Upon receiving the shot to start
programming, the Playlist Digital closes the line and then begins to display the local
programming.

In the case of the Serial port, the receiver will be connected to the LPT1 input (printer port).

In the DB-25 connector (Parallel port) the pairs of pins used for PLAY are [15 and 18] and
for STOP the pairs [13 and 25] are used.

Making the cable to receive the shot

We use the data logging pins to receive PLAY and STOP. The S3 is used for PLAY and the S4 for
STOP.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 131 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

• S3 - Pin [15] (PLAY) S4 - Pin [13] (STOP)

The ideal pairs are then:

• S4 – [13-25] (the two extremes opposite to 1-14)

• S5 – [12-24] (one on top of the other, parallel to par 13-25) S6 – [11-23] (ditto)
• S7 – [10-22] (ditto)
• S3 – [15-18 (or 19, 20, 21)] – These are not like the others. It's on the same bottom line.

Connection to the receiver

When the satellite receiver used by the network affiliate provides relays, it is possible for the
affiliate to command the programming through a cable made exclusively for connecting the
receiver to the parallel port of the computer. At both ends will have a male DB-25 connector. One
DB-25 connector will be connected to the satellite receiver and the other will be connected to the
parallel port. Usually on the back of the receiver is a DB-25 connector (figure). The relays are
connected to the pairs of pins, as shown in the table below.

Configuration and Usage Guide

DTMF (Audible tone)

When receiving DTMF trigger from the network

head broadcaster, we will use the AUDIO INPUT
option, in the section of the same name in
TOOLS>>OPTIONS>>SETTINGS.

The DTMF command must be interpreted by the Playlist Digital, and so it will be necessary for the
Playlist Digital to receive the audio coming from the network head to identify the commands being
received.

In the example above, Playlist Digital will recognize the PLAY command when 'listening' to the tone
"67" in the audio configured to send the shot.

The STOP command will be recognized when the Playlist Digital 'listens' to the "53" tone in the
audio configured to send the shot.

The options under Audio input are:

Audio source– Where the input device with the audio from the network head (content generator)
should be selected.

DSP Plugin - If the broadcaster uses any DSP Plugin for this audio input.

Close line-in to play – Closes the line entry when programming starts and opens when it stops (or
in empty blocks, when this option is enabled).

Waiting time before closing the input line – Time in seconds before line closes

DTMF Play– This command must be set to the value made available by the network head. When
the Playlist Digital identifies the execution of this code, it gives Play in the programming.

DTMF Stop– This command must be set to the value made available by the network head. When
the Playlist Digital identifies the execution of this code, it stops programming and starts playing
the audio received on the line input.

DTMF Level - Defines the sensitivity of signal interpretation. When this value is high, it can cause
shots to be ignored. When the value is too low, it can cause false triggers in the schedule. Playlist
Digital can also recognize more than one DTMF command to perform an action. To do this, simply
separate the commands by the ';' sign (semicolon) and Playlist Digital will be able to recognize

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 133 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

more than one command

According to the example above, the tones 123A, 159D, 789C, when received, will be recognized as
PLAY. The ABCD, 456B, 79 commands, when received, will be recognized as STOP.

Network
In the case of network triggering, simply enable the Network Affiliate option and which commands
will be received.

Operating Clock

This feature is very useful when the user wants to customize the musical and commercial blocks,
such as: determining a specific name for the block; determine whether the block is for automatic
triggering by satellite or local; determine a flag for block duration; in addition to other features that
we will show below.

To configure this feature access the folder C:\Playlist\PGM, inside the PGM folder open the file

Playlist.ini. ( )

As an example, we present below a configuration for the musical block. With the file open, type the
following setting:

[RELOGIO MUSICAL]
FORMATO=TXT1
ARQUIVO=Grades\Relogio%a.txt

With the Playlist.ini already configured, the Music Clock files should be created in the "Grades"
folder of the Playlist Digital. Access the folder C:\Playlist\PGM\Grades, within this folder should be

created a Music Clock file for each day of the week. These are text files (notepad), which should
contain the times of the musical blocks (they are usually the same times as the grid files). Below
is an illustrative image of how the nomenclature of the files will look and how the schedules
should be within each file:

Note: This same configuration can be done to create the commercial clocks.

Operating clock parameters

The operating clock can be configured with some parameters that will add more functionality to
the Playlist Digital.

ID parameter

With the ID parameter the name of a given block can be defined by according to the operator's
need.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 135 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

FIXO parameter

When setting the fixed parameter, note that a yellow F will appear in the block header.

The parameter (Fixed) is used only in trading blocks, which cannot be delayed.

It works in the same way as the "Discard Insertions" option, but instead of waiting for the song to
finish it cuts what is playing in the music block, making a 'fade-out', passing exactly on time, from
the computer clock, to the next commercial block.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 136 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

LOCAL and SAT parameters

The LOCAL and SAT parameters define whether the block is a local block or satellite, this
parameter is used by broadcasters that are network affiliates.

To configure it, simply type in front of the desired block time the LOCAL or SAT parameters.

DUR parameter

When you configure the DUR parameter, a time is set in minutes:

Note that on the block, the amount in minutes specified on the clock and the actual number of
minutes of the block appear. When the sum of the time of the block insertions exceeds the time
specified in the clock, the Playlist Digital displays one indicated in yellow, when the time of the
block is less than the time configured in the clock the indicator turns red and when it is equal the
indicator is green.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 137 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

LOCKED parameter
When you configure the Locked parameter, the block is locked, and no operator can make changes
to the block such as Move, delete, and add.

When you add the parameter (LOCKED), a yellow padlock appears on the block indicating that the
block is locked.

DESCARTE parameter
The DESCARTE parameter, will discard insertions that starts after the start time of the next block.

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 138 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

This diiscard will be applied only in the block in which it was chosen, so if the media extrapolate the
time of musical reproduction, the block will suffer the action of the discarded disposal.

Beep

Beep is a sound that the Playlist Digital emits at a time interval predetermined by the operator.
When the computer clock points to the configured interval of minutes, the Playlist Digital triggers
the Beep and then a sound that can be determined by the operator through the choice of an mp3
file, is triggered in the Playlist Digital over the audio that is playing.

To configure Beep, open the Playlist file.ini which is inside the Playlist\PGM folder, on the last line
of the file type the command as in the image below:

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 139 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

In the line "FILE" should be entered the path where the file .mp3 of the beep is saved, in the line
"TIME" will be the minutes that the beep will be triggered.

In the example above, the Playlist Digital will fetch the Beep file.mp3 which is in the Playlist\PGM
folder, in the full hours, hour and fifteen, hour and thirty-hour and forty-five.

Mini Site
You can build a mini website to be displayed within the Playlist Digital. This site should be built
within 'Playlist\PGM\Minisite'. The initial file should be named 'Index.htm'.

The mini site can be built using any HTML file editor or any program for building websites, but
Playlist Digital provides an HTML editor within the folder 'Playlist\PGM\Minisite'. In addition to the
editor, the Playlist Digital already provides a mini site ready, just the operator just edit it according
to need.

To edit the files of the mini site the

operator must open each desired
page with the executable "HTML
Editor.exe" that is in the folder
'Playlist\PGM\Minisite'.

The main page of the mini site is

called Index.htm, within it there
is a menu with the options of
Scale of Announcers, Result
Draw, Promotions, News and
Bulletin Board. For each page link
displayed on the index page.htm
there is a file associated with the
link, all these files are in the
"Playlist\PGM\Minisite" folder
and can be edited using an HTML
editor or the HTML Editor
itself.exe which accompanies the
Playlist Digital.

Using Playlist Digital with vMix controller and OBS

From version 5.0.8.01 it is possible to control vMix and OBS using the Playlist Digital, then having
an audio and video programming being transmitted at the same time.

It is important to note that since one or more third-party software is being involved in the process,
it is important that you prepare your video collection before starting to use the function.

There is no mixing of the video files when camera controller is activated, so it is necessary that you
perform the necessary cuts in the files before adding them to the collection. This includes the
spaces you want to remove at the beginning and end of the video, for example, as well as periods
of silence.

Required/recommended software
Using vMix

• vMix - https://www.vmix.com/software/download.aspx

Configuring the software to work together with Playlist Digital

vMix
To use Playlist Digital in conjunction with vMix, it is important to take a few points into
consideration:

vMix Licensing

In some vMix licensing, you cannot play files from a list of videos. This list, when available, is
controlled by the Playlist Digital.

Use in conjunction with VLC

If the licensing used does not have access to the Video List entry type, VLC can be used as a
substitute, transmitting the content via NDI.Com this information in hand, configure the software.

You will need the following scenes within vMix:

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 153 from 191

Title Overlay
In addition to controlling scenes, Playlist also allows the control of Title Overlay (in vMix) and
Layers (in OBS) Playlist Digital generates an XML file that provides information that can be used in
real time to assemble the overlays as needed. This XML provides information such as:

• Current Music Name

• Name of the current Music Artist
• Name of the current insert file
• Music Release Year
• Next Insertions to run
• Name of the Operator in use in the software
• Current block ID

In addition to the above, other information can be read from the XML generated by the Playlist
Digital using the correct XPath. Below we list some basic XPaths.

Function XPath
Song name /Playlist/OnAir/CurMusic/Title
Name of the artist of the current song /Playlist/OnAir/CurMusic/Artist
Name of the current insertion /Playlist/OnAir/CurIns/Name
Music Release Year /Playlist/OnAir/CurMusic/Year

Name of the Operator in use in the software /Playlist/OnAir/Break/Op

Current block ID /Playlist/OnAir/Break/Id

In addition, Playlist Digital also generates a commonly used

text file for RDS that can show the name of the song or
commercial playing.

Playlist Digital automatically controls titles that are named

Music and Commercial.

The display time can be configured in

Tools»Options»Settings»Camera Controller and clicking on
Title Overlay Time. The time is set in milliseconds and can be
set between 5000 (5s) and 10000 (10s).

Configuration and Usage Guide

Once assembled and named correctly, Playlist Digital will initiate the automatic transition to the
MUSIC and COMMERCIAL Title 5 seconds after the file starts playing (except commercial video
spots) and keep it active according to the time set in Title Overlay Time.

In addition to the auto-programming settings, you can trigger any of the overlays or vMix scenes
by clicking on any of the Camera Controller buttons and dragging them to programming points.
When used, this function will change the scene to an announcer's camera when the announcer will
start the voiceover, before its score or story, for example. Below, the application example: At the
time of entry of the trail, the scene with the Speaker Camera is opened. Then, when passing the
insertion, the camera passes to the guest next to his trail.

Programmed commands

You can also use Config Manager to create commands that can be registered and added
programmatically. The two basic commands are those described below, responsible for enabling
or disabling the automation of the VLC and OBS and vMix list and scenes control. They must be
created with the COMMAND type in Config Manager and, on the command line, added the following
codes:

Function Command
Starts the list control in OBS/vMix C CameraOn
For camera control in OBS/vMix C CameraOff

The commands to activate scenes, sending them directly to the programming/live should contain
the name of the scene following the following structure:

Function Command
Set the SPEAKER scene as the program C Scene:ANNOUNCER

With this, every time programmed on the map, grid or added in the programming manually, through
the COMMANDS section of the Playlist Digital, the SPEAKER scene will be defined in the
programming output in vMix.

Overlay commands

vMix has 4 overlays (layers) that can be used as overlay. These layers are numbered from 1 to 4
with 1 being the one below, and 4 the one the most above. It is possible to use more than one
Overlay at the same time, but only a single Overlay per layer.

You can define Overlays (such as overlay layers) in programming by using commands.

The Command is built following the following structure:

Function Command
Enables the Journalism scene at layer C Scene: Journalism | Layer:3
(overlay) 3

If Overlay has a defined duration, such as 30 seconds, you can set it using the Time attribute: as
shown below:

Function Command
Enables the Journalism in layer (overlay) 30 C Scene: Journalism | Layer:3 | Time: 30
seconds scene

In summary:

Command element Function

C Sets this to be a command and should be read as such by Playlist Digital
Scene: Sets the scene to select
Layer: Defines the layer (Overlay) to be used
Team: Sets the time for which the layer (Overlay) will be displayed

In addition, the command below clears all Overlays that are active:

Function Command
Cleaning up all Overlays C Scene:RemoveAllOverlays

OBS

OBS, it is possible to use the automation of overlapping titles in a similar way, however, the
software works with scenes mounted directly on the structure.

With this, the VLC and AUDIO Scenes must contain an element with the name MUSIC and
COMMERCIAL. Any element with these names will be triggered for the overlay, such as: Browser,
Text, Group.

Unlike vMix, OBS does not natively handle information from an XML, which opens up 2
possibilities:

The first is to build a structure that makes this reading on a page read by the browser, for example,
or any other form defined by the broadcaster.

The second is to use the information generated by the Playlist Digital in the TXT file (RDS)

playlistsolutions.com [email protected] Page 178 from 191

Configuration and Usage Guide

To do this, in the Playlist Digital, go to Tools»Options»Settings

Then, under RDS, set the template to FILE and under "Adress RDS Encoder", set the name of the
file to be generated. If set as above, i.e. only the file name, it will be generated in the Playlist/PGM
folder. In NOTE, click
Add Font (+ icon), and then click Text (GDI+).

Configuration and Usage Guide

At this point, if you choose to use a group (with background, image, or any other content),1 set a
name other than MUSIC or COMMERCIAL, as this name must be given to the content that will be
triggered.

In the opened Window, check the Upload File option, then indicate the path of the text file with the
information.

You can also choose the formatting of the text to use
