Addiction

Smartphones have many positive uses but experts are worried

that children are addicted to their phones. People who are
addicted to their smartphones stop doing important things,
such as homework because they want to spend more time on
their phone. Also, their friends and family complain about how
much time they spend on their phone. A person that is addicted
to their smartphone will continue to use their phone even
though they know about the negative impacts.

Sleep problems

It is difficult for many people to stop using their smartphones before bed. Unfortunately,
the light from a smartphone screen can disturb natural sleep. Secondly, it is difficult to
relax and go to sleep when you are using your phone in bed.

Scrolling through your phone before bed can make your brain think it needs to stay awake.
Finally, using your phone in bed will reduce the amount of time you spend sleeping, this
means that you will feel more tired in the morning.

ESL Pals
Concentration
Smartphones cause concentration problems. Young people who use
their smartphones a lot have problems concentrating on tasks.
Experts think this is because there are many different things to do on
a smartphone so children are constantly changing their
concentration from one thing to another.

The solution to this problem is to reduce the amount of apps on your

phone so that you are not easily distracted. You should only use a
few apps and focus on them. This will help you to learn how to
concentrate on important tasks.

Eye problems

The human eye is incredible as it is able to do many things, but

looking at a smartphone screen all day can damage them.
Unfortunately, smartphone use is damaging people’s eyes
because they are looking at a screen all day.

The light from our smartphones causes damage to our eyes. The
light is unnatural so our eyes are damaged by it. We can reduce
the problem caused by this light by spending less time on our
smartphones and more time outside looking at beautiful nature.

Unsociable

Smartphones can have a negative impact on social interactions. People who look at their
smartphones while talking to other people are very rude. It seems that some people are
more interested in looking at their phones than speaking to someone in real life.

Even having your phone in your pocket or on the table can cause problems. This is because
the notifications can distract you while you are talking to another person. Also, you can be
tempted to look at your phone which distracts you from the conversation. The solution is to
leave your phone at home, or turn your phone off and leave it in your pocket. With no
distractions, you will be able to focus 100% on the conversation.
