U900 and U2100 Coverage Capability Analysis

1) Coverage capability is much better for 900MHz than 2100MHz due to lower path loss and stronger diffraction capability. 2) Field tests show path loss for 900MHz is 10-12dB less than 2100MHz in urban areas. 3) Rural coverage tests found voice coverage distance for 900MHz was 1.6-1.9 times 2100MHz and data coverage distance was 1.6-1.7 times.

U900 & U2100

Coverage Capability Analysis

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD.

900MHz & 2100MHz Coverage Capability Comparison

Coverage capability of 900MHz (or 850MHz) is much better than 2100MHz (or 1900MHz).

Indoor coverage capability is determined by building penetration and diffraction capability:

•Higher band like 2100MHz has less wall penetration loss, but the diffraction capability is much weaker
than the lower band like 900MHz.

The overall coverage capability of 900MHz is much better the and 2100MHz due to the gain of diffraction
capability.

According to Huawei field test result: normally the path loss of U900 is 10~12dB less than U2100 in the urban
area.
