Coating Breakdown The coating breakdown factor (CB) describes the anticipated reduction in cathodic current density due to the application of an electrically insulating coating. CB = 0 means that the coating is 100% electrically insulating, CB = 1 implies that the coating has no protective properties. The coating breakdown factor is a function of coating properties, operational parameters and time, The coating properties are dependent on coating materials, surface preparation and the coating application.
