Toastmaster of the Evening

Good morning fellow Toastmasters and guests. Welcome once again to MIM KL
Toastmasters Club. My name is _______ and I am honored to be the Toastmaster of
the day. For the benefit of new members and guests, allow me to share a short
history of Toastmasters.
The Toastmaster movement was started by Ralph C. Smedley in the year 1924 in
Santa Anna, California with the purpose of helping young people to be better
speakers, communicators and leaders. His ultimate goals were to make them a
better person and contribute to humanity. Today, there are more than 16,400 clubs
in 141 countries with more than 352,000 members in various languages including,
English, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), French,
German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Tamil, and Thai,
Since 1924, we have been upholding the 4 core values, which are integrity, respect,
service and excellence.
In October last year, Malaysia has launched The Pathways Program under
Toastmasters which builds the foundation in developing members to become
effective communicators and better leaders. Members will have the opportunity to
develop up to 300 competencies in 10 different learning paths. Each path is unique
and members get to choose the path that they would like to develop further in.
A regular Toastmasters meeting is divided into three parts. The first part of the
meeting is the Table Topics Session where volunteers step up to speak on a general
topic provided on the spot. This will help volunteers improve their impromptu
speaking ability. The second part of the meeting is the Project Speech Session
where club members will deliver their prepared assignment speeches. The third part
of the meeting is the Evaluation Session where assigned evaluators will provide their
evaluation on the speeches delivered this morning.

Our theme for this evening is ___”Soar to Excellence_______. This theme

means that we do our best to achieve new height all the time. Let’s have a great
meeting together.
