Answers
1. The one property of a square is,
All sides of a square are equal in length.
2. The one property of a rectangle is,
The opposite sides of a rectangle are equal to each other.
3. The formula of area of square is side × side.
4. The side of the square is 5cm.
We know that the formula of area of square = side × side.
Area = 5cm × 5cm = 25cm2.
5.
1 box is 1 Square cm so, 18 boxes( 6 × 3 ) are 18 square cm.

6. Perimeter of square = 4 × side
= 4 × 25
= 100cm.
7. We know that, area of rectangle = length × breadth
Area of piece A = 5cm × 6cm = 30cm2
Area of piece B = 11cm × 3cm = 33cm2.
So, piece B has a larger area.
8. Let’s find the area of a rectangle
Area of rectangle = L × B
= 15cm × 10cm
= 150cm2.
Area of square = side × side
= 18cm × 18cm
= 324cm2.
The area of rectangle has a smaller area.
9. By counting squares, we find that area of the given figure is 15 square
units.
10. The side of a square is 4.5cm.
Let’s find the area of a square.
Area of square = side × side

= 4.5 × 4.5
= 20.25cm2.
11. Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Area of dining room = 6m × 8m
= 48m2.
12. The perimeter of a square is 480m.
Perimeter of square = 4 × side
480m = 4 × side
side = 480 / 4
side = 120m
Area of square = side × side
= 120m × 120m
= 14400m².
13. According to the question, the area of a square is equal to the area of a
rectangle.
Area of rectangle = L × B
= 12cm × 3cm = 36cm2.
Area of square = 36cm2.
Area of square = side × side
So, 36cm2 = side × side ( Take x as side of the square)
36cm2 = x2
x = √36
x = 6cm,
Therefore, the side of a square is 6cm.
14. We can find out this by counting squares.
So, the area of the blue region is 33 square units.
15. Area of triangle = 12× base × height

= 12× 8cm × 16cm

= 64cm2.
16. Area of rectangle = L × B
= 24cm × 12cm
= 288cm2.
Perimeter of rectangle = 2( L + B)
= 2(24 + 12 )
= 2 × 36
= 72cm.
17. Perimeter of square = 4 × side
= 4 × 24
= 96m2.
18. The area of carpet = L × B
= 14m × 10m
= 140m2.
19. Area of rectangle = L × B
= 10cm × 6cm
= 60cm2.
Area of square = side × side
= 8cm × 8cm
= 64cm2.
The difference in their areas = 64 – 60 = 4cm2.
20. The area of the figure = 6 complete square + 4 half squares
= 6 + 12 4
=6+2
= 8 square units.
