Class 9 Physics Worksheet Final

This document contains a science test with 5 multiple choice questions about physics concepts like force, speed, and motion. It also describes an experiment to determine the period of a pendulum. A student measures the time for 20 oscillations of a pendulum 3 times and calculates the average period. To improve accuracy, a card with a thin black line can be placed behind the pendulum to judge when an oscillation is complete.

1. Which is the unit for force and what is the unit of weight?

Force Weight
A Kg Kg
B Kg N
C N Kg
D N N
2. The displacement of a moving object can be found from
A Area under displacement-time graph
B Slope
3. A ruler is used to measure the length of a nail, as shown.

What is the length of the nail?

A 2.1 cm
B 3.3 cm
C 5.4 cm
D 7.5 cm
4. A man takes 30 min to walk 4 km to a station. He then immediately gets on a train
that takes 60 minutes to travel 100km.
What is the average speed for the man’s complete journey?
A 1.2km/hour
B 1.8km/hour
C 54km/hour
D 69km/hour
5. Which change can not be caused by a force acting on an object?
A Change of mass
B Change of motion
C Change of shape
D Change of size
2. A student determines the period T of a pendulum.

(a) She uses the apparatus shown in Fig. 3.1.

The period T is the time it takes for the pendulum to complete one full oscillation (from S to
P, P to Q and then from Q back to S), as shown in Fig. 3.2.

• The student pulls the pendulum a few centimetres to one side and releases it.
• She measures the time for 20 complete oscillations of the pendulum using a
stop-watch.
• She records, in Table 3.1, the time for 20 oscillations of the pendulum, to the nearest
0.01 s.
• She repeats this measurement two more times, recording the results in Table 3.1.

26.72 1.34

26.61 1.33

(i) Explain why the student measures the time for 20 oscillations rather than just one
oscillation.

Ans Because one oscillation is too quick

Fig. 3.3 shows her final stop-watch reading.

Read and record in Table 3.1 the time to the nearest 0.01 s for 20 oscillations of
the pendulum.

(b) (i) Calculate the period T of the pendulum for this final
result. Use the equation shown.

T = time for 20 oscillations = 26.43 seconds

Record your answer in Table 3.1. Give your answer to the nearest 0.01 s. [1]

(ii) Calculate the average value of T from the student’s results.

average T = 1.34, 1.33 s

(c) Describe how the student can use a piece of white card with
a thin black line drawn on it to improve the accuracy of the
measurements made in this experiment.
Ans: Card placed behind pendulum and black line aligned
with pendulum, as it hangs vertically/before it swings; It
helps people to judge when oscillation is complete.
