Hello lovely students! So how have you been? What have you been up to during the summer? Do you have
any favourite activity or just do nothing? Wake up, be awesome and go back to sleep?
Son, what have you been doing these days?
So let’s start the very first lesson of our school year, which is unit 1. But before we actually take part in any
learning activities, I’d like you to share with me and your classmates what you do for pleasure? What do you
like doing in your free time?
Now before you answer my questions, let’s revise the structures we learnt last year to talk about leisure
activities.
- Thank you for sharing your pastimes with us. Mine are mainly internet related hobbies, so watching
youtube shorts, shopping online, surfing facebook… I could go on if you’d like a few more. But honestly,
my fave is kicking back, being a couch potato.
Anyway, any of you enjoys creating things? So the second question I wanna ask you is among these options,
which is one advantage of creating things?
Is it A…
I’ll leave the answer till the end of the lesson, so please stay tunned.
In this lesson, I’m gonna show you some cool phrases to talk about your free time activities.

1) The first word for today’s lesson is unusual. Take a look at the picture. What do you think of the
house here? Is it normal or different from a common house? Everything is upside down, so we can
use unusual to describe the house by saying: “”
Perhaps you’re more familiar with the word “usually” which refers to something that happens ordinarily or
normally. So usual means normal. The prefix “un” means not, making the new word means the opposite of
the original. Now let’s think of some other adjectives that can also form the opposite one by adding prefix
“un”: unhappy, unhealthy…
2) as you can see creativity is a noun, anyone knows what verb it comes from? Yes, create, I actually
use this verb in the question I ask you at the beginning of the lesson. And it means to make new
things.

So the literal meaning of creativity is the ability to make produce new ideas. So next time, when you see this
kind of sentence in your exam, I bet you’ll know how to answer it.

Keywords to underline are usually nouns, verbs, and most of the time you can forget about articles and
prepositions. The most important strategy is to identify the focus of the questions.

I think there are probably three common types of hobbies, there could be more. First type is hobbies that
involve physical activities, or cited in your textbook as Doing things. Next is creative activities, well I’m
thinking about painting, maybe knitting or some similar handcraft work. The last category is collecting
things or collections. This is gonna be a little bit tricky, so I need everyone’s concentration.
We’ve been talking a lot about hobbies, but what are the benefits of having a hobby? And it brings us right
back to the question I ask you at the beginning of the lesson. I think now it’s the good time to reveal the
answer.
