1. Transportation and installation

(1) Transportation
1. Please do not give any oscillation to the machine.
(that is, outside impact)
2' As the center of gravity is rather high in this machine and further it
towards the drive side, please be careful not to tip the machine over and
damage the machine.
3. When moving the location of this machine to another place with some
kinds of equipment, please never use any hooks nor other equipments
on the head assembly where knitting is done, nor to the frame. In order
to protect the safety of the staff and the machinery equipment, the trans-
port and movement of this machine must be done by the crane. please
surround separately under the tripod supporting base at the middle circle
with three chain ropes, which shall bear the weight of machine evenly.
Do not make it be slant. Then, move it to the reserved position.
4. Weight of the machine = about 2300 kgs (30,, Dia)

(2) lnstallation
The foundation for this machine must be strong and evenly leveled
concrete.
As this machine is designed with tripod type which can get stable leveting
for installation always, so severe leveling is not required. But, in case
proper leveling cannot be obtained for installing the machine, then please
use the rubber cushion with the machine.

(3) lnstallation conditions

As this machine is precisely made, during the cold weather season, the
resistance at each sliding portion of the machine will become very heavy,
especially when starting up the machine; so, in order to avoid the overload
troubles, please keep the room temperature within the range of 16"C to
24.C.
Further, in summer where room temperature should go over 30.C or at
tropical countries where temperature is very high, please keep the room
temperature below 30'C by using air conditioner, and must keep the tem-
perature below 30'C to avoid it caused faults.

1. After the machine equipped, please correct it with leveling instrument, until
three geet reach the level, and pack with rubber cushion to avoid vibration.

2. Al this time, please rotate the disk manually, then by listening closely the
noise of needle, and check carefully the rotation direction of needle. (an
arrow direction show on the disk).

a. Because of needles with closed latches, please open them up with brush.
In the case of shipping the machines overseas, we have applied quite
sum of rust proof onto the machine, so, at the beginning, you may find
some bad latches.

Compressed air piping should be large enough to avoid excessive pressure

drop under maximum flow conditions.
Compressed air piping should contain as few restrictions as possible.
Sharp turns in piping should be avoided and sweeping bends used wherever
possible.
Drop lines, valves, and hose connections should be large enough to accom-
modate the maximum rated flow requirement (cfm.) of the tools or equipment
connected thereto.
Water or condensate is an inherent by-product of every compressed air
system, so pipe lines should be provided with means of extracting this water.
It is advisable to pitch compressed air piping in the direction of air flow so that
both gravity and air flow will carry the water to traps or water legs located at
intervals or low paints in the piping system. These should be drained regularly
and never allowed to become full and inoperative. The in-stallation of
automatic-drain filters at these points--see Fig. f -is recommended.
To prevent condensed moisture from reaching the equipment attached to the
system, drop lines or hose connections should never be attached at the
bottom of air mains. Connections should be made at top of mains and long
radius return bends used.

15
3. Construction and adjustment of main portions

3-1 . IRO and HPF type system yarn feeding device

This device is to have the yarn and the tape separated, and by using its friction
effects, to make the yarn separated, and the yarn is fed into each feeder in the
same speed as the tape speed, and was designed so that necessary yarn
amount will be fed actively, and have the following features.

1. During the operation of the machine, the accurate amount of stitches

(stitches per inch) are obtained. By using this tape (HPF) system, constant
amount of yarns are fed into each feed, so, by measuring the tension of
each feed with tension meter. By matching all the feeds in this manner, the
accurate stitches are obtained evenly and the length of the loops will
become all even and can knit beautiful fabrics.

2. Optional yarn tension can be selected

By using the IRO device, the yarn tension will be the difference between the
consumed yarn amount (amount of yarns necessary for knitting) and yarn
fed amount (yarn amount fed out from the IRO device). But to adjust the bal-
ance optional tension, especially it can keep the tension from 2lo 4 grams
in low tension, so, it can knit less defect fabrics and as of results can get
good quality knitted fabrics.

3. Even at high speed or low speed operation of the machine, it can knit no
difference in the fabrics. Even if you change the speed of the machine, as
the tension being always constant, there will be no difference in the fabrics
at high or low speed operation of the machine.

4. According to the yarn used, the suitable yarn tension is required,

3-1-1 .Adiustment of IRO tape feeding

By using the IRO tape feeding to adjust the amount of yarn feeding, please
adjust under the following two methods.

1. Slight adjustment change the diameter of IRO tape feeding block

2. When adjusting IRO tape feeding exceedingly, please change the inner
block under the following procedures.

(1). Changing the diameter of IRO tape feeding

As shown in Fig. 3-1, loosen up the nut located at the upper part of the
disc and rotate the upper cap, and 12 pieces of blocks will slide front and
backwards, and change the diameter.
a. lVoving to "l" direction, the diameter becomes bigger, more amount of
yarn fed.
b. lVovin g lo "2" direction, the diameter becomes smaller, less amount of
yarn fed.

Figures in the bottom disc show the diameter of IRO tape feeding.

2 1

Careful handling as follows:

1. After the adjustment of the diameter, please definitely tighten up the nut.

2. Please try to turn the upper cap as level as possible. If the vibration of the
cap is too much, there is possibility that the block may come out of the
groove of the IRO tape feeding.

3.When adjusting the IRO tape feeding, at the same time, please also adjust
the tension of yarn.

17
(2) Exchanging the chang gear
When the feeding amount exceeds
the adjustment limit of IRO tape
feeding, then please exchage the
change gear.

being used between each feed for
knitting the desired knitted fabric, it
cannot be used.

changed, please also change the
diameter of IRO tape feeding at
the same time.

3. When knitting with f ilament yarns, Before entering the IRO tape, the
please adjust the tension and try yarn tension gaps will be one of

six senses, but use the tension
meter to adjust accurately under
the normal operating speed.

3-1-5. Practices of IRO tape use

1.When you determine the yarn feeding amount for the fabric to knit, then
make a record of the quality adjustment pulley scale, dial height and it's
density, so that if you would like to come back to the same number, by get-
ting out the record of the knitted fabric, it can be done very easily.

2. ln case of pattern knitting, even if no yarn is fed, if you will have the yarn
slide over the IRO yarn feeding pulleys, by the friction, it will bring about
semi-active feeding of yarns, so it will give good results for knitted fabric. ln
this case, please have the IRO tape speed rotate fast.

4-1-1. Cylinder cams

Referring to the cylinder cams on this machine, as shown in Fig. 4-3, we have
adopted cams so that the needle movements are always kept in smooth
operation. Further, referring to the mounting of cams, the knit cams and tuck
cams are mounted on the same set place so that the cam race is fixed, and
welt cams can be fitted and fixed into the groove of the cam holder. Therefore,
it can be coped under high operation of the machine at top efficiency.

1. ln the cam holder, as there is groove applied to the width of the cam, if the
welt cam is fitted into this groove and screwed on, you will be able to obtain
the correct position for the welt cam.

2. To mount the cams, from up or down direction, first, please mount the knit
cam and tuck cam, and then mount the welt cam.

3. In case of 3 feeds in one section, if the mountingof cams are done from
both ends, some time the middle cam cannot be fitted in, so either from
one end, please mount the cams in the cam race direction.

4. While dismounting the cams after overhauling the machine or after

exchanging cams, please verify whether the cams will move smoothly on
the Block.

5. Referring to the knit cam and tuck cam, depending on the gauge each
model (SH-4XFA, SH-4BFA, SH-2XFA, SH-2BFA), they will be varied, so
please refer to cam chart for use of the cams.

22
r
4-1-2. Adjusting amount of stitch

To adjust the amount of stitch, as shown in Fig. 4-2, il is done by numeral

adjust screw.

ln "R" direction Knit cam will be lowered down

(N/ore amount of stitch)

In "L" direction Knit cam will be raised. (Less amount of stitch)

This adjustment is done by measuring the yarn tension of the yarn fed out
from the IRO tape positive yarn feeding device with a tension meter.

4-1-3. For this adjustment, please note the following

Jointing between cam and cam, as shown in Fig.4-3, they are overlapped,
so if you intend to change amount of stitch for one feed, this cannot be done,
Adjustment of one feed, the maximum adjustment possible is 1.0 m/m up or
down, so in case you desire to change the amount of stitch over 1.0 m/m, you
must gradually change all cams and adjust to the required amount of stitch:

4-3. Adjustment of Yarn Guide

High speed knitting machine with many feeders, after changing knit, welt, and
adjusting sinker leftward or rightward, you will always find out the leaked
needle and broken needle. Under the most condition, it results from the wrong
position of installing Yarn Guide.

To set the Yarn Guide in the correct position is one of the basic subjects of
knitting, and the important factors, especially when machine need to change
the knit and welt, we will adjust the Yarn Feeding Bar. So after changing the
knit and welt, please definitely check the position of Yarn Guide.
