 VOLVO GROUP TRUCK TECHNOLOGY(GTT)

Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT) is the research and development
organization of the Volvo Group. We provide state-of-the-art research,
engineering, product planning and project execution to final delivery of
complete products and also support the products in the aftermarket.

Designation : Wiring Engineer (Wiring Harness)

Software used : SaberESD, Saber 2015, Kola and
protus tool including Jira, Basic knowledge of Catia
Tenure : 2015 to till date

Key responsibilities
• Perform WH prestudies for projects
• Design & optimize wiring harnesses
• Final installation of WH (including clamping) through cooperation with packaging team
• Clarify the requested features with PPL and propose restrictions if needed
• Secure that concepts fulfils requirements according to QDCF
• Design for assembly and service ability in close cooperation with GTO and After Market
• Realize the Product Structure (KOLA)
• Is in charge of problem solving(Protus, QJ, Campaigns)
• Verification of WH Digital Mock-Ups (DMUs), physical parts/mock-ups and installation
• Initiate new harness related parts(std parts and special components)
• Interface to supplier(s) & Supplier Involvement In Product Development (SIPD) management
• Maintain and secure platform thinking, optimized harness topology and diversity
• As Wiring Harness component owner, Wiring Engineer has to: o Support Purchasing in the
request for quotation: evaluation of technical solutions from the different suppliers.
o Responsible for building Test Requirement Analysis (TRA) with the supplier and for its
agreement.
o Provide installation requirements to the packaging and installation responsible
o Secure that the installation of the WH is done correctly (e.g. location, fixation, mounting).
o Responsible to secure approval and manage WH deviations.
o Follow up the development by the supplier: review of DFMEA, PFMEA, technical
specification, design review, process review.
o Involvement on patents proposal within his/her expertise area.
o Support APQP (e.g. PPAP) process for part.

o Secure the signing of RTS (Review Technical Specification) with the supplier and
purchasing.
o Support project builds with material and documentation.
o Monitor and control bought service budget related to his/her HW development (Development
cost from beginning of the RFQ to the end of the project, cost for Change Request, …)
o Highlight any change of prerequisites that imply cost estimations change
o Lead and propose quality and cost improvement actions
o Be aware and act in order to fulfill the target part price in the project.
o Act as speaking part regarding product and development costs

• Has to work in close co-operation with packaging & installation, suppliers, systems
engineering, system– and component owners, purchasing, manufacturing and aftermarket.
o Bring wiring inputs for harnesses space claiming (bundle diameter)
o Support electronic team for functional allocation and bring wiring inputs to choose an
electronic architecture that enables harness optimization
o Design the schematics with System Engineering
o Define harness families (including GTO requests) and diversity in collaboration with STS/
Wiring Technical Leaders
o Check 2D drawings done by wiring designer
o Release K-DCN and release the schematics
o Cooperate with Electrical Component team for protection/distribution system dimensioning
(wire size, component choice, temp class,…)

Additional responsibilities
The role of wiring Engineer can sometimes include the following task performed in the
wiring/S & RTO process
• Wiring schematic design (wiring architect)
• Special vehicle and customer adaptation design

MINDA FURUKAWA ELECTRIC PRIVATE LIMITED

Minda Furukawa Electric Private Limited (MFE) is a Joint Venture between Spark
Minda, Ashok Minda Group, India and Furukawa of Japan. The Joint Venture is a
51: 49 partnership with Spark Minda, Ashok Minda Group holding 49% and
Furukawa holding 51%.
The company develops and produces the entire range of wiring harness for four
wheelers for its customers, and components related to wiring harness e.g.
couplers, terminals, relay box, junction box, and Steering Roll Connectors used for
the airbag systems etc.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY :

 Design & Development the wiring harness for Maruti Suzuki India
Limited according to the MSIL specification.
 Production engineering, ECN management, standardization and VA/VE.
 Cost reduction for under development & running projects for MSIL (Wire
Length tuning & Junkai Activities).

  Generation of VA/VE ideas at RFQ stage & localization for the cost saving.
 Developing the circuit drawing preparation from system circuits – as per
the system circuit - selection of wire Size, fuse rating & fuse matching with
the standards of JASO & ISO.
 Developing the schematic drawings & wiring diagram.
 Responsible for New projects developments(Wiring Harness) from
quotation phase to SOP (start of production) Phase
 New product costing & Manage product pricing to ensure product
competitiveness and the target gross profit margins.
 Preparation of all Projects Related Reports like FMEA, APQP/PPAP, and
Control plans, Product Development Sheet & Modification and Implement
new Ideas in Product Development or Cost Saving Proposal,
Countermeasure, Troubleshooting etc.
 Sampling & Co-coordinating with Customer for Designs, Prototypes
development & drawings approvals. Providing Technical Support to
Production /IQC & perform analysis & correction for Failure.
 To check the feasibility of the product/project and close co-ordination with
the production and Quality Department for submission and approval of new
products.
 To ensure a close contact with customers to ensure Business Retention.
 To develop the wiring harness according to drawings, specifications &
different design requirements of the customers.
 Responsible for developing vendor/supplier for new & existing projects.
 Drawing studies of wiring harness & preparation of BOM.
 Representing the product engineering in cross functional team with other
departments to resolve the design and quality issues facing in new projects
 Managing and distributing the work among the team to achieve targets.
 Efficiently participate in PPAP & APQP Activity for new models & Pilot trial
run.
 Representing the product engineering in cross functional team with other
departments to resolve the design and quality issues facing in new projects
 Design and developing solutions in 2D drawings using AUTOCAD.
 Generation & Issuance of Bills of Materials required for costing & product
development.
 Assisting customer regarding selection of cost effective & more reliable
components during wiring harness design finalization.
