POWER FACTOR
CORRECTION
CALCULATIONSPower Factor Correction. where Load.and present
Power Factor.is Known
The objective is to determine the requested reactive power'Q,
(kvar) to be installed, in order to improve the power factor cos@
and reduce the apparent power S.
For.’ < g, we'll get: cos’ > cos@ and tang’ < tang.
This is illustrated on the diagram in the left.
Q, can be determined from the formula{Q, = P. (tang - tang’)
which is deduced from the diagram.
Gi. : power of the capacitor bank, in kvar
Re active power, in kW
tang: _ tangent of the phase angle - before compensation,
tang‘: tangent of the phase angle - after compensation
The parameters @ and tang can be. obtained from:the billing data,
or from direct measurement in the installation.
