Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Introduction
Technology has become an increasingly important tool in education in recent years. With the
advent of digital devices and the internet, teachers and students now have access to almost limitless
amount of information and resources. This has transformed the way we approach learning, making it
more interactive, engaging, and accessible to a wider range of learners. From online classes and virtual
field trips to interactive educational games and multimedia resources, technology has opened up new
possibilities for education that were once thinkable. By leveraging the power of technology, educators
can personalize learning experiences, promote collaboration, and help students develop essential digital
skills that are critical for success in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world. In short, technology has
become a prime tool in education, empowering teachers and learners alike to achieve their full potential.
Today’s educational technology is used to give students the chance to study a particular subject
at their own pace and convenience. Because employing technology properly has the ability to make
learning meaningful, integrating it into education is extremely valuable(Kirschner, 2015). Within ten
years, technology has changed education in ways that include (a) how course material is delivered to
students, (b) how students interact with that material outside of class, (c) how teachers can design
different learning opportunities for students with different learning preference, and (d) how they can
turn course material into knowledge bytes for students with different educational backgrounds and
abilities. The objective of utilizing technology in education nowadays is to evolved from simply
presenting course material to helping students understand it. It’s more like “the idea that you can learn
something without directly learning it” when using technology in education, according to Henrikisen et
al. (2019, p.86). The research revealed that students use information technology effectively over eighty
percent of students use the benefit from its many advantages, especially in getting new information and
communicating with people. On the other hand, information technology hurts concentration in class and
consumes a significant amount of time(Shatri, 2020). In other words, knowing the technology will
undoubtedly aid in accomplishing the course’s purpose, even though technological proficiency may not
be the course’s primary goal.
In a study conducted by (Kennedy, G. E., Judd, T. S., Churchward, A., Gray, K., & Krause, K.-L
2008). In which involved more than 2000 new first year Australian university students, is the subject of
this publication. The availability, use, and preferences of a variety of established and developing
technologies as well as technology-based tools were investigated among students. The patterns of access
and usage of a variety of other technologies, however, show considerable variance when one looks
outside well established technology and tools (such as computers, mobile phones, and email). The
findings and the implication for employing technology to improve teaching and learning in higher
education are examined in light of Prensky’s(2001) ideas of the “Digital Natives”.
This article explores the distinctive features of Web 2.0 that set it apart from the Web of the
1990’s, outlines the contexts in which students utilize the Web today, and explores how youth’s
propensities for utilizing Web 2.0 have an impact on learning and teaching. This analysis revealed two
key themes, “learner participation and creativity, and online identity formation,” which provide a fresh
set of research questions. It is necessary to do more studies that concentrate on how students utilize
Web 2.0 tools on a daily basis and how they learn from them both inside nad outside of the classroom.
Finally, in light of these themes, suggestions for how Web 2.0 might revolutionize scholarly work in
education are presented.(Greenhow, Robelia, Hughes, 2009)
1). What are the advantage and disadvantage of using technology to education?
2). What are the challenges and opportunities associated with the use of technology in
education, specifically for ACLC students?
3). What are the effectiveness of technology in improving student engagement, academic
performance, and critical thinking skills in senior high school at ACLC?
Scope and Limitation of the Study
This study focuses on the role of technology in the education of the students in Grade 11 at
ACLC Antipolo and helps them to know the advantage and disadvantages of using it. It will also be about
how technology can impact students academic performance. In conducting this study, descriptive
research will be used by the researchers. Furthermore, the respondents to this study were limited to 30
students at ACLC Antipolo.
Hypothesis
Theoretical Framework
(Marr and Poggio’s, 1977) Educational software offers the potential for greatly enhanced
students learning. The current availability and political will for trying new approaches means that there is
currently much interest in expenditure on technology for education. This theory indicates how
technology has potential to student’s education.
(Thornburg, 2014) Computer software is a very scalable technology. In the future there will be
more technologies that can be used for education. Part of the success is any system will be if it scales as
well as computer software. Based on this theory technological devices such as computer can be helpful
and be useful in student’s future especially in student’s academic purposes that may lead in student’s
success
(Clark, 2008) Usually technology should be considered as external aide, but it is important for
students to be trained ti use technology. Distinguishing internal and external memory aides can be
complicated. As of today, technology is essential and hightech that’s why students must learn on how to
use technology because this will be a prime tool in education.
(Issroff and Scanlon, 2002) Learning and thinking are still at the heart of today’s digital
technological advancements. There have been claims made concerning the science of learning, with the
general belief that digital technology is inherently beneficial to the learning process. Digital technology is
now utilized in education as a way to enhance and promote learning, as well as an informative and
learning tool. This theory proved that technology has a benefits to the learning process. Basically, it is
also a learning tool in students education.
