connected immediately to pipelines to protect. As
TCP installation is mandatory standard to protect
We understand that TCP design calculation are for 9 location pipeline during construction period until PCP is

The temporary sacrificial anode CP system shall be designed to provide sufficient current to achieve a
minimum “ON” potential on the pipeline equal to (or) more negative than (-) 850 mV over the design life,
with respect to a Cu/CuSO4 reference electrode (Ref: NACE RP 0169 clause no 6.2.2.1.1).
The design strategy followed for temporary CP system for subject pipeline is enumerated below:
• A detailed site survey shall be undertaken to collect relevant site data as a pre-requisite for the design
activities. The design shall utilize the site data, shall be done based on project specifications, and
project inputs & drawings.
• All buried section of the pipelines shall be protected using temporary cathodic protection (TCP) for the
design life of 1 year.
• The sacrificial system shall be installed as the pipe is laid and shall be operational immediately upon
backfilling.
• Design life of temporary cathodic protection shall be up to one (1) year or until commissioning of the
permanent system which ever is encountered first (as per section 3.2 of scope of work doc# BST-
GEN-ELE-SOW-OQ-000-00001-00-U-01).
• Pre-packaged magnesium anode shall be used for temporary cathodic protection of the produced
water disposal pipelines. All anodes shall be connected to the structure only through the test post and
no direct connections to the pipeline shall be allowed.
Note – ICCP or Permanent cathodic protection system for these pipelines under subject scope is already
designed under the document (CATHODIC PROTECTION SYSTEM DESIGN REPORT- PWD
NETWORK PIPELINES WITH SOLAR CP STATIONS # BST-GEN-CRR-RPT-AIP-10018-10002-
00_K01) and same is approved.
The following section defines the basis of cathodic protection, design parameters and assumptions which
shall be used to develop temporary cathodic protection system design:

Taking in to consideration the soil resistivity data results reported under pre-design survey report
document (BST-GEN-CRR-RPT-AIP-10018-10001-00) average soil resistivity found to be severely
corrosive in nature along the pipeline route. The soil resistivity shall impact the current output of the anode
which shall not be able to throw the required current.
To overcome this problem, Mg anodes are provided with pre-packaging of water retentive backfill material
which keeps the environment around the anodes moist and at lower resistivity at all time. Anode backfill
material consist of powdered gypsum: 75%, granular bentonite: 20% and anhydrous sodium sulphate:
5%, which has water retaining capacity.
The anode locations shall also be provided with watering facility. At the time of installation, the anode
installation locations shall be watered. Due to this, anode can be expected to be operating at resistivity
assumed conservatively at 2000 ohm-cm (20 ohm-m).

pipeline. Hence, in order to ensure the proper current distribution, 3 numbers of pre-
packaged Magnesium anodes shall be installed for the subject pipeline.
