1. Discuss the 7 major functions of School Administration (POSDCoRB). How do these

functions been performed by the school head where you are now or you had been
connected? (20 pts)

The 7 major functions of School Administration (POSDCoRB) is very

important in the success of a school. The POSDCoRB stands for Planning,
Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Coordinating, Reporting, and Budgeting. These
functions are very important and needs to be performed by every school head. At
present, I believe that my school head performs these functions well.
 First in planning, a school administrator must be forward thinking. He/she
must seek to ensure that there will be progress in the school for the coming
years. My present school head formulated a School Improvement Plan which
is very important for the school. Development plans for the next three years
are present in the SIP.
 Organizing – assigning and carefully arranging the roles of each
stakeholders is important. In the first 3 months of my new school head’s
term, arranging the different stakeholders’ associations has been one of the
things that was first taken into action.
 Staffing is an important function of a school administrator. One must be able
to know who is for which in order to achieve the most for the organization. I
believe that this function has been well performed by my school head
because the teachers she assigns in a training/seminar or to become a
coordinator for example is the one who fits or who has the appropriate skills
for that training/seminar or coordinatorship.
 Directing people in the organization must also be a well-executed function of
a school administrator. Proper direction paves the way into achieving a goal
for the organization. Our present school administrator is a leader and a good
facilitator – assists teachers into improving for the better and initiating
action for the organization.
 Coordination or coordinating the right people and building a good
relationship within the organization enables the members to function well
together. I can say that our school administrator effectively coordinates and
communicates with the other stakeholders of our school. Just like recently,
members from the private sector volunteered for a Bayanihan in our school
because of the initiative of our school head to communicate with other
stakeholders.
 Reporting – this function is also essential to be performed by a school
administrator because the stakeholders must be informed on the
development or the lack thereof so that they can take action to improve the
organization further. At present, our school administrator has already
planned a SMEPA for the stakeholders to be updated.
 Budgeting is a crucial function that must be performed well by school
administrators. Proper usage of funds like the Maintenance and Other
Operating Expenses (MOOE) must be done to help the organization improve
and develop. Our school administrator is doing well in managing the
finances of the school.

2. How do your School Administrator performs its roles on Leadership, Management,

Personnel Administration and Curriculum Implementation in the achievements of the
DepEd Vision, Mission and Core Values? (20 pts)

Our school administrator, in terms of leadership, manages us teachers well.

Just like in doing our SBM, coming from a school who has already established
their SBM, in our school, our school head provides us goals and directions and
helps us to achieve those goals efficiently. Our school administrator is also
updated and abides with the division, regional and national directives. In
Management, I can say that our school head performs managerial tasks efficiently
and is a competent manager. Maintenance of the learning environment, budget and
necessary reports are well organized. The Core Values are well represented such
as Makakalikasan for our school head is managing the utility workers of the school
well. In the context of Personnel Administration, our school administrator never
fails to encourage us teachers to develop ourselves further. That entrusting the
work just to the one who knows how to do it is a no, but other teachers must also
learn how to do such so that they will not depend on someone. Harmonious
relationship and peaceful working environment is also always encouraged in our
organization. Our school administrator keeps us, the staff on track with the things
we need to improve when teaching in the context of Curriculum Implementation.
Demonstration teachings are conducted to further equip the teachers into doing
better in nurturing every learner even in this time of pandemic.

3. Compare and contrast the Transformational Leadership theory and Transactional

Leadership Theory. Which do you would be the best theory and why? (15 pts)

The Transformational Leadership Theory is more centered on ideal

influences and inspirational motivation. This kind of leadership theory stimulates
the followers to achieved more than what they have perceived to achieve. Like
doing more than what is asked of them, for the better. In this leadership theory, the
leader is a great motivator and has great communication skills to inspire their
followers in developing their desirable visions and achieve something. These kind
of leaders don’t criticize mistakes but lets the followers realize solutions out of it.
On the other hand, Transactional Leadership Theory is more on outcome or
results-based. This kind of leader punishes and rewards their followers based on
the result of their performance. This theory is more on the hands-on side of
managing leadership, directive and action-oriented. Often times, leaders find fault
in the follower’s work and pays attention to it, then punishes. However, it is also a
good theory to be applied in times of emergency because it carries out solutions to
problems in a specific fashion.
If I were to choose the best theory between the two, it would be the
Transformational theory because as leaders, we’ll never know where our inspiring
words can take our followers into. This leadership theory encourages great leaders
to stimulate followers and make them into a much better leader than what they
think they can be in the future.

4. According to John C. Maxwell, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and
shows the way”. Relate this statement to the School Leadership Traits. (15 pts)

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way,” this
statement by John C. Maxwell basically says that a leader must be the role model
and must acquire and the appropriate leadership traits in order to be effective and
successful in leading an organization. Leaders must exercise the leadership traits
that one must have so that the followers will have a good role model to look up to.
Leadership traits include honesty and integrity, confidence, inspires others,
commitment and passion, good communication skills, good decision-making
ability, accountability, delegation and empowerment, creativity and innovation,
empathy, resilience, emotional intelligence, humility, transparency, and vision and
purpose. These leadership traits are essential a leader must have all of these in
order for him/her to be efficient and effective. Although a famous line says ‘nobody
is perfect’, the role of a leader is very crucial just like what the line says, he/she
knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. Wherever the leader goes, the
followers of course follows, now if a leader fails to execute a trait, like honesty and
integrity for instance, how can the followers be honest also if their leader itself
isn’t. It will have a boomerang effect on the leader, therefore, leaders must be
careful in whatever they do because someone is looking up to them.

5. Explain the Five Organizational Structures by Henry Mintzberg. (15 pts)

Henry Mintzberg’s Five Organizational Structures provides different takes on

managing the structure of an organization. The Simple Structure only has 3 parts
in its organization, the strategic apex or the top management which makes the
decisions which then is relayed to the middle line, and delegates the information to
the operating core or the workers who does the services. This structure is for
simple and small organizations like the district level of a school organization and
will not be effective for a bigger organization. The Machine bureaucracy, like the
simple structure still has strategic apex, middle line and operating core, however,
support staff is added which supports the organization outside the workflow, and
techno structure which ensures that the organization follows legal rules. This is
more formalized and tasks are organized into different departments and are
managed well because there are more support staff to do so. In the Professional
bureaucracy, professional expertise is required. This structure operates differently
from each part depending on the expertise of each other. Divisional form is a
structure used by large corporations or in the context of education, the Gensan
SPED Center can be an example because it has separate independent structures,
like a separate structure for the fast learners and learners who are differently-abled
which is also divided into smaller structures. Last one is the adhocracy where
some innovative schools can be classified as but not all.
6. Discuss thoroughly the Bureaucracy Management Theory of Max Weber. Relate the
organizational structure of the Department of Education to the theory of Max Weber. (15
pts)

Max Weber's bureaucratic theory is the foundation for any organization's methodical
construction and is aimed to assure efficiency and economic effectiveness. It's a great
way for management and administration to focus on an organization's power structure. It
has 6 bureaucracy characteristics are which are Task specialisation (Specialization and
Division of Labor), Hierarchical layers of authority, Formal selection, Rules and
requirements, Impersonal (Impersonality and Personal Indifferences, and Career
orientation which is much applicable to the Department of Education.
