The Order of Mass
FRIDAY OF THE FIFTEENTH WEEK
IN ORDINARY TIME

PRAYER FOR PROTECTION FROM CORONAVIRUS

R In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit.
All Amen
R Let us pray:
O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of
salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of
the Sick. At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’
pain, with steadfast faith.

You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need.

We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at
Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this
moment of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to

the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took
our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring
us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.

2
We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of
God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test
– and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed
Virgin.

R In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit.
All Amen

do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most
grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all
the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to
pray for me to the Lord our God.

and to strive after all that does it honor. Through our Lord
Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in
the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

READING (Ex 11:10-12:14)

R A reading from the Book of Exodus
Although Moses and Aaron performed various wonders in
Pharaoh’s presence, the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate,
and he would not let the children of Israel leave his land.

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,

“This month shall stand at the head of your calendar; you

5
shall reckon it the first month of the year. Tell the whole
community of Israel: On the tenth of this month every one
of your families must procure for itself a lamb, one apiece
for each household. If a family is too small for a whole
lamb, it shall join the nearest household in procuring one
and shall share in the lamb in proportion to the number of
persons who partake of it. The lamb must be a year-old
male and without blemish. You may take it from either the
sheep or the goats. You shall keep it until the fourteenth
day of this month, and then, with the whole assembly of
Israel present, it shall be slaughtered during the evening
twilight. They shall take some of its blood and apply it to
the two doorposts and the lintel of every house in which
they partake of the lamb.

That same night they shall eat its roasted flesh with
unleavened bread and bitter herbs. It shall not be eaten raw
or boiled, but roasted whole, with its head and shanks and
inner organs. None of it must be kept beyond the next
morning; whatever is left over in the morning shall be
burned up.

“This is how you are to eat it: with your loins girt, sandals
on your feet and your staff in hand, you shall eat like those
who are in flight. It is the Passover of the LORD. For on this
same night I will go through Egypt, striking down every

6
first born of the land, both man and beast, and executing
judgment on all the gods of Egypt—I, the LORD! But the
blood will mark the houses where you are. Seeing the
blood, I will pass over you; thus, when I strike the land of
Egypt, no destructive blow will come upon you.

“This day shall be a memorial feast for you, which all your
generations shall celebrate with pilgrimage to the LORD, as
a perpetual institution.”

R The word of the Lord.

All Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL SONG
AS THE DEER
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You are all that my heart desire
And I long to worship You
You alone my strength my shield
To you alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart desire
And I long to worship Thee

ACCLAMATION BEFORE THE GOSPEL (Jn 10:27)

Ps Alleluia, alleluia.

7
 My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord; I know them and
they follow me.

GOSPEL (Mt 12:1-8)

Ps The Lord be with you.
All And with your spirit.
Ps ✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
All Glory to you, O Lord.

Ps Jesus was going through a field of grain on the sabbath. His

disciples were hungry and began to pick the heads of grain
and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to
him, “See, your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do
on the sabbath.”

He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when
he and his companions were hungry, how he went into the
house of God and ate the bread of offering, which neither
he nor his companions but only the priests could lawfully
eat? Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath
the priests serving in the temple violate the sabbath and are
innocent? I say to you, something greater than the temple is
here. If you knew what this meant, I desire mercy, not
sacrifice, you would not have condemned these innocent
men. For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath.”

8
Ps The Gospel of the Lord.
All Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Ps The Lord be with you.

Ps Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All It is right and just.

Ps It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always
and everywhere to give thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty
and eternal God, through Christ our Lord.

In him you have been pleased to renew all things, giving us

all a share in his fullness. For though he was in the form of
God, he emptied himself and by the blood of his Cross
brought peace to all creation. Therefore he has been exalted
above all things, and to all who obey him, has become the
source of eternal salvation.

And so, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and

Dominions, and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven,
we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we
acclaim:

All Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.Heaven and earth are
full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

At the time he was betrayedand entered willingly into his
Passion,he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,and
gave it to his disciples, saying:

MY BODY,WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

chaliceand, once more giving thanks,he gave it to his
disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,FOR

THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,THE BLOOD OF
THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,WHICH WILL
BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANYFOR THE
FORGIVENESS OF SINS.DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
Ps The mystery of faith.

Resurrection until you come again.

Resurrection,we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the
Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthyto be in your presence and minister to you.Humbly
we praythat, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,we
14
may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.Remember,
Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring
her to the fullness of charity, together with Francis our Pope
and Robert our Bishop, and all the clergy.

Remember your servant N.,whom you have called (today)

from this world to yourself.Grant that he (she) who was
united with your Son in a death like his, may also be one
with him in his Resurrection.

Remember also our brothers and sisterswho have fallen

asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have
died in your mercy:welcome them into the light of your
face.Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed
Virgin Mary, Mother of God,with blessed Joseph, her
Spouse with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints who
have pleased you throughout the ages,we may merit to be
coheirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.
