Relations and Functions

This document contains 10 questions about relations and functions for a Class 12 assignment. The questions cover topics like determining if a function is bijective or one-to-one, finding the number of possible functions between sets, identifying graphs that represent functions, and proving if given relations are equivalence relations. The relations and functions involve sets of real numbers, natural numbers, and greatest integer functions.

Assignment : Relations and Functions

Q.1) Let A and B are any two-empty sets. Show that 𝑓: 𝐴 × 𝐵 → 𝐵 × 𝐴 such that f(a , b) = (b , a) is a
bijective function.
Q.2) Let A = {1,2,3} and B = {4,5,6,7} and f = {(1 , 4), (2 , 5), (3 , 6)} be a function from A to B. State
whether f is one-one or onto.
Q.3) (i) If A= {1,2,3} and B= {a,c,d,e}. Find number of one-one functions from A to B.
(ii) Find the number of onto function from A to A if A = {1,2,3. n}
Q.4) Which of the following graphs represent a function ?

Q.5) Prove the relation R on the set N x N defined by (a, b) R (c, d) -a+d = b + c, for all (a, b) (c, d) є
N x N is an equivalence relation.
Q.6) Prove that the function f: R→ R, given by f (x) = |𝑥| + 5, is not bijective.
Q.7) Prove that the function f: R→ R, given by f (x) =4𝑥3 -7, is bijective
Q.8) Prove that the Greatest Integer Function f: R→R given by f(x) =[𝑥], is neither one- one nor
onto where [𝑥] denotes the greatest intger less than or equal to x .
Q.9) Check whether the relation R in R defined by R = {(𝑎, 𝑏): 𝑎 ≤ 𝑏3} is reflexive, symmetric,
transitive.
Q.10) Show that the relation R in the set N of Natural numbers given by
R = {(𝑎, 𝑏): |𝑎 − 𝑏| i𝑠 𝑎 𝑚𝑢𝑙𝑡i𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑜ƒ 3} is an equivalence relation.
