Assignment

This document provides instructions for Assignment Two of the Business Statistics course at Jamhuuriya University of Science and Technology. It includes three parts: 1. Theoretical questions asking students to define key probability concepts like permutations, combinations, mutually exclusive events, and hypothesis testing steps. It also asks about differences between one and two sample tests. 2. Practical questions involving probability calculations based on sleep data and finding the correlation coefficient from a table of age and marks. 3. More practical questions requiring students to state null and alternative hypotheses for scenarios involving retirement age, voter turnout, tuition costs, and public transportation usage. It concludes by providing a hypothesis test question about time spent on the phone by teenagers.

Assignment Two
Deadline: 4 July 2023
Instruction
Please Do All the following Questions and submit on time, Submit by Hard Copy.

Part one: Theoretical

1. What’s Probability Concept? Discuss briefly three basic interpretations of probability?

What is Premutation and Combination? Write Down the Premutation and Combination
Formula? What are Basic tools of probability? Define Mutually Exclusive Event?
Write Down General Rule of Additional Probability and Special rule of Multiapplication
of probability?
2. State Five Steps of Hypothesis Testing? What is the different Between One Sample Test
and two Sample test? What is Type One Error and Type Two Error? Which time we use
T Test and Z test? What is Critical Value? Use Z table to find Critical Values when ∝=
0.05, ∝= 0.01(𝑅𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑒𝑠𝑡), ∝= 0.005 (𝑙𝑒𝑓𝑡 𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑒𝑠𝑡), ∝=
0.1 (𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑒𝑠𝑡)? What is Confidence interval for mean known? What is
proportion?
3. What is Correlation Coefficient? Discuss briefly Dependent Variable and Independent
variable? What is Regression Analysis? What is Scatter Diagram and Give one Example?
Find the Correlation Coefficient formula? What is linear Regression line? Please give me
one Example?

Part Two: Practical

1. A recent survey found the following distribution for the number of hours a person sleeps
per night.
Less than 6 Hour 12
6 Hours 26
7 Hours 30
8 Hours 28
More Than 8 Hours 4
Total 100

Find these probabilities for a person selected at random:

a) The person sleeps 8 hours per night.

b) The person sleeps fewer than 7 hours per night.
c) The person sleeps at most 8 hours per night.
d) The person sleeps at least 7 hours per night.

2. Find the value of the correlation coefficient from the following table and the find
Hypothesis testing:
Subject Age Marks
1 43 99
2 21 65
3 25 79
4 42 75
5 57 87
6 59 81

3. State the null hypothesis H0, and the alternative hypothesis Ha, in terms of the appropriate
parameter (μ or π)
A. The mean number of years Somali work before retiring is more than 50.
B. At least 75% of Somali vote in presidential elections.
C. Private universities' mean tuition cost is $14,000 per year.
D. More than 60% of adults ride bus to work in Mogadishu.
4. A Banadir Region Authoraty reported that teenagers spent 4.5 hours per week, on
average, on the phone. The BRA thinks that, currently, the mean is higher. Fifteen
randomly chosen teenagers were asked how many hours per week they spend on the
phone. The sample mean was 4.75 hours with a sample standard deviation of 2.0.
Conduct a hypothesis test. (Use significance level of 0.05.)
