(COT-2)
GRADE 8-RIZAL
June 27, 2022 @ 2:00-3:00 PM

I-OBJECTIVES:
A. Content Standards:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the concept of a species and the species as being further
classified into a hierarchical taxonomic system

B. Performance Standards:
The learners should be able to report (e.g., through a travelogue) on the activities that communities engage
in to protect and conserve endangered and economically important species

C. Learning Competency:
The learners should be able to explain the advantage of high biodiversity in maintaining the stability of an
ecosystem. (8LT-Ivh-21)
Specific Objectives:
Cognitive: Define Biodiversity.
Psychomotor: Participate actively in describing the 3 levels of biodiversity namely: species, genetic, and ecosystem
Diversity.
Affective: Value the significance in protecting and preserving biodiversity.

Recessive - traits can be carried in a person's genes without 1. Gregor Mendel

Dominant -a trait that will appear in the offspring if one of the 3. dominant
parents contributes it.
1. Law of Dominance:
- In a cross of parents that are pure for

trait will appear in the next generation.
- Offspring that are hybrid for a trait will
have only the dominant trait in the

2. Law of Segregations:
- During the formation of gametes (eggs or
sperm), the two alleles
(hereditary units) responsible for a trait
separate from each other.
- Alleles for a trait are then "recombined" at
fertilization,
producing the genotype for the traits of the
offspring.
3. Law of Independent Assortment:
- Alleles for different traits are distributed to
sex cells (& offspring)
independently of one another.

Lecturette
ABSTRACTON To let you more understand about our lesson for today, We will have this
Power point Presentation

Earth is a home of to a tremendous diversity of species

Students listen very carefully.

.
BIODIVERSITY
- Is the variety of life. BIO means “life” and DIVERSITY means “variety”
There are about 8.7 million of diverse organisms on earth.

 Three main types of BIODIVERSITY

1. Genetic Diversity
It is basically the variety of species expressed at the genetic level by each
individual in a species. No two individuals belonging to the same species
are exactly similar. For example, in the species of human beings, each
human shows a lot of diversity in comparison to another human. People
living in different regions show a great level of variation.
Just like in your TLE, if you are going to plant corn, you are going to
choose good variety of corn. Indicator 1

2. Species Diversity
It is the biodiversity observed within a community. It stands for
the number and distribution of species. The number of species in a region
varies widely depending upon the varied environmental conditions. For
example, it is usually observed that civilizations residing beside water
bodies show more species than the one compared to the areas away
from water bodies.

3.Ecological diversity
It defines the diversity observed among the ecosystems in a particular
region. Different ecosystems like mangroves, rainforests, deserts, etc.,
show a great variety of life forms residing in them.

It is a must that all of us will have to

protect and conserve our biodiversity.

 IMPORTANCE OF BIODIVERSITY
Biodiversity is essential for the processes that support all life on Earth,
including humans. Without a wide range of animals, plants and
microorganisms, we cannot have the healthy ecosystems that we rely on
to provide us with the air we breathe and the food we eat. And people
also value nature of itself.
1. Biodiversity provides food for humans.
2. Significant drugs are derived, directly or indirectly, from biological
sources.
3. Biodiversity plays an important role in making and maintaining
ecosystems.
4. It maintains and regulates the chemistry of our atmosphere and water
supply.
5. Biodiversity is directly involved in recycling nutrients and providing
fertile soil.
Since Biodiversity is very important to each one of us, what will you do
with our biodiversity?
Yes! Very good. Each one of us has a very great role in preserving our
biodiversity.
APPLICATION

the Screen/OHP)
1.Each group will be given a picture.
2. Identify the problem in the picture.
3. Enumerate 3 effects to human as well as to other organisms.
4. Suggest solutions to the given problem.
5. You are given 10 minutes to do it.
Yes ma’am
6. Do the reporting of output. Students present their output to the
class

Thank you, Ma’am,

Students do the Yes clap!

plan and implement it.

Are you done?

Let’s have now the presentation of your output.

Very good students. You were able to do your task successfully.

Congratulations! Let’s have another Yes clap!

As a youth and a leader in your community, together with your members,

how can you help support our government in protecting and conserving
our biodiversity? Indicator no. 5

Generalization What have you earned from our lesson this morning? I have learned Biodiversity Ma’am
Yes…
What more? The 3 levels of Biodiversity Ma’am
That’s correct! I learned the importance of
What else? conserving biodiversity Ma’am.

Some of our brothers and sisters are engaging kaingin system, if you Report them to persons with authority
have relatives who are engaging in this kind of activity, As student leader, Ma’am
what will be your advise to them so that our ecosystem will be preserved?
Yes… I will advise them to stop doing the
Correct! activity and have reforestation or tree
What else? Yes. planting activity.
Yes correct! In that way, the area will be preserved and be useful again
for the next generation.

Would you now believe that without taking care of our biodiversity, all of Yes Ma’am
us will not survive? And why? No source of food, medicine, shelter.
Conserving biodiversity means
preserving lives.
Well said! Biodiversity plays a major role in maintaining the balance of the
earth. Furthermore, everything depends upon the biological diversity of
different plants and animals. But due to some reasons, biodiversity is
decreasing day by day. If it does not stop then our earth could no longer
be a place to live in.

Most biodiversity resources are consumed by humans, so it is their

primary responsibility to preserve and protect biodiversity to protect the
earth. The richness of the species, the ecosystem, the environment, and
the sustainable growth of life on earth is important.
“Save biodiversity, Save yourself.”
Kindly get 1 whole sheet of paper and answer the following. Write only
IV. EVALUATION: the letter of your answer.
MULTIPLE CHOICE: Choose the letter of your answer and write it in
your paper. Students answer the questions.

B. habitat D. species
2. It is one of the levels/types of biodiversity which refers to differences in
the genetic make-up of a group of organisms.
A. biodiversity C. genetic diversity

3. Which of the ff. examples belongs to ecosystem diversity?
A. species of cactus and aloe vera
B. white and red rose
C. sea lion and the lion in savannah, Africa
D. Indian mango and Apple mango
4. “Not all dogs are the same” what does this statement imply?
A. all dogs can survive in the same habitat
B. all dogs vary in terms of color, stature, and other physical
characteristics.
C. all dogs can produce a combination of cat and dog offspring
D. all dogs are identical

5.Which level BIODIVERSITY has an important role in maintaining the

balance of ecosystem? Answers:
A Genetic diversity C. Species diversity 1.C
